It appears to be growing worse as the day progresses with most of the city underwater, including the business and french quarter districts. Water rising at Tulane Hospital...may impact the generator there...will they need to evacuate? Watching tv and some of the CG rescue missions from people trapped in their attics or on their roofs. No safe drinking water,no electricity, no way to pump out the water from the "bowl" the city rests inside of yet because there is no electricity. I heard marshall law declared in NO. CNN reporting that there is some military people who will put forward to Rumsfeld that a Pentagon 3 star General be put in charge of coordinating the disaster relief effort out of some Air Force base in Alabama. This is not looking good at all. My thoughts and prayers are with all those effected by this disaster.
Meanwhile back in Arizona or is it California, from the Vacationer in Chief, we get a 90 second blurb in a speech discussing the Hurricane....followed by... Now Watch this drive.
Posted by at August 30, 2005 08:31 AMOverheard on Bush's ranch (or wherever he is):
WH Advisor: "Mr. President, you really should call the Governor and Mayor and say, 'What can we do to help? What do you need most?' Then you could go on national TV and say that the federal government is doing all it can and urging everyone to help, donate, send food, etc.".
GWB: "That's a good idea. But aren't all the Army and the National Guard in Iraq defending freedom? Now, watch this new chain saw I got yesterday - it really gets at the brush the way I like.".

I lived through the Great Midwestern Flood of 1993 in Des Moines. I know exactly what these people are going through. Your life isn't in immediate danger, but you're watching the world slowly consume your home and the life you've built as the water gets deeper. And deeper. And deeper. And just when you think it can't get worse, another 2 feet of water has slowly crept up on you as sandbag what little remains. Meanwhile the sky overhead is a treacherously cheerful sunny blue.
It is the slowest and most agonizing natural disaster. It must be even worse for the people that are evacuated and unable to defend their homes or even attempt to help stop the flooding.
My heart goes out to Southern Lousiana and Mississippi.
Posted by idiosynchronic at August 30, 2005 10:42 AMJust heard on the news that Bush is cutting short his vacation to devote his time on the Katrina disaster. Doesn't help his poll numbers to be biking and scarfing down fried catfish when millions of voters are watching their lives being washed away.
Must be time for a photo op of him passing out water bottles or such with the Red Cross.
Posted by Hank at August 30, 2005 12:00 PMThanks to the idiot child inflicted upon our country by the Bush family, we are tapped out - can't afford to help our own people rebuild since we are sending multibillions to Iraq in order to rebuild their infrastructure only to see it destroyed over and over. With no end in sight. We have to get out. We have to finally take care of our own.
