Too bad it wasn't a fiddle.

The bushies and the right-wing nuts don't give a shit. These people are black and they speak some crazy french don't they?
Huh on why it's too bad it's not a fiddle? If so, then egads!
Think Nero, Rome burning...

Well, way down yonder in New Orleans in the land of the dreamy scenes
There's a garden of Eden, ah-you know what I mean
Yeah, Creole babies with flashin' eyes softly whisper with tender sighs
And then you stop!
Oh won't you give your lady fair a little smile?
And then you stop!
You bet your life you'll linger there a little while
Yeah, there is heaven right here on earth with those beautiful queens
Yeah, way down yonder in New Orleans
Whoo!
the man is absolute garbage........
Posted by distributorcap at August 31, 2005 10:04 AMarent Louisiana and Mississippi big time red states -- OR are the counties that were devasted by Katrina leaning too blue to President Vacation's liking.
And the governor of Louisiana, despite being a dem (i think?) is awful -- i mean "a day of prayer" -- how about a day of getting supplies and help and volunteers to rescue the people trapped.
Posted by distributorcap at August 31, 2005 10:06 AMIf this is the response after 5 years of disaster preparedness training, the creation of a Department of Homeland Security, and 2 weeks warning that Katrina was going to hit ... imagine the response to an unexpected terrorist attack.
Posted by Jim Faith at August 31, 2005 10:11 AMHow many days will it take for Bush to appoint a surrogate to handle the Katrina disaster like he did with the Sunami? Who will it be?Clinton's health probably won't allow him to do it, although he clearly would be the best for the job. The key here is that Bush won't want to expend any biking energy worrying about a city full of Blacks wading around in sewage. Let someone else do it - maybe Henry Kissenger or Pat Robertson.
Posted by T2 at August 31, 2005 10:16 AMbendito is not the brightest bulb in the vanity mirror, he prolly wouldn't get it about Nero and all.
Now, about bush. He still can't get back to DC until Wed? So what's he doing TODAY?
RFN?
Just remember bushlovers, his job isn't to by the President, it's to funnel billions upon billions of dollars, yours and yours and yours, and mine, tax dollars, into the coffers of BIG BUSINESS.
The actual business of governance? That's for poor peoples kids to worry about.
Posted by Duckman GR at August 31, 2005 10:24 AMdistributorcap, you're right; the gov of LA is a dem. and an airhead, apparently.
Posted by benjoya at August 31, 2005 10:30 AMBen Bernanke, White House economic advisor:
"Clearly, it's going to affect the Gulf Coast economy quite a bit," Bernanke told CNBC television. "That's going to be enough to have at least a noticeable or at least some impact on the aggregate (national) data.
" ... reconstruction is going to add jobs and growth to the economy," he added. "As long as we find that the energy impact is only temporary and there's not permanent damage to the infrastructure, my guess is that the effects on the overall economy will be fairly modest."
gotta love those disasters to create jobs
While perhaps too early to think about at this point, the horrific damage inflicted by Katrina does present an opportunity to rebuild the gulf coast in a sustainable and equitable manner using the latest in technology and urban planning. I'm sure a firm like William McDonough's would do the design work for next to nothing and the whole thing could be pretty much paid for by repealing Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest 5% of Americans (who are doing the best in this highly slanted economy and would not likely refuse to help in the rebuilding effort). We're talking tens of billions of dollars here. Imagine a well-designed coastal area that takes into account things like environmental health, good housing for the poor, well-designed mass trasnportation, etc.--and, yes, better hurricane protection. The growth in the economy and local tax base coupled with rising tourism would make this an economically vibrant area with plenty of good jobs for the residents. I could envision such a place attracting many tourists from around the world and serving as a model for future U.S. development and regional planning. Will the Democrats in Washington D.C. push for such a wholistic response. I won't hold my breath.
Posted by Ben at August 31, 2005 11:09 AMI'm not trying to defend looting, but isn't all this stuff going to go bad anyway? At least the looters are salvaging some of it. All I see on TV is the case being made for a police state.
Posted by just asking at August 31, 2005 11:11 AMIt's now official: New Orleans is now just part of Lake Pontchartrain.
12:11 P.M. - Army Corps: Water has become level with the Lake in the city so no more water should flow into the city, except at high tide.
Unfortunately, thanks to all the rain, Lake Pontchartrain is currently about 6 feet above sea level, several feet higher than normal. At least the flood won't be rising any further.
Posted by CA Pol Junkie at August 31, 2005 11:13 AMIt's funny how when it was Florida that was hit by a hurricane disaster, Georgie Porgie was on the ground in three shakes of the pet goat's tail(photo-opping with Bro' Jeb). Curiouser and curiouser, eh Alice? (:>

I think LA & MI tend to be pretty damn red, but the people who seem most effected by Katrina (those who had no car or money to evacuate) are the ones the GOP intimidates into not voting so Bush doesn't care.
gotta love those disasters to create jobs
I'm sure the jobs won't go to the locals. They'll probably bring in out of state contractors with their own people.
Posted by ann at August 31, 2005 11:36 AMGeorge is starting to get involved now. Plans to "make a speech" in the rose garden at 5 PM today. I think we can all be thankful he's not just now getting around to responding to a 'nuklar' attack.
Posted by Hank at August 31, 2005 11:43 AMHow about asking why there weren't buses or some other means to help people who didn't have transportation get out of New Orleans?
Cindy, it's Social Darwinism in action. Those who didn't buy cars and have enough money to fill up their tanks and get out of town shouldn't be helped because that would just encourage more people to be poor.
Posted by ann at August 31, 2005 12:14 PMOh, sorry, I said "Social Darwinisim." I meant "Ownership Society."
Posted by ann at August 31, 2005 12:38 PMI want to second Cindy's question. Anyone who could read the National Weather Service reports new what kind of hurricane Katrina was, and they had a good idea of where she was heading, well ahead of this disaster. It's not as if there was a choice of walking out of town into the safety of 90+ mph winds. Yet, none of the concerned governments made any effort to evacuate those people who lacked the ability to move themselves. This was a choice of money or people's lives, and the lives were spent. If there's a scandal, this is it.

In this photo of bush with the guitar I noticed that Mark Wills hasn't gotten back from obviously placing Bush's fingers in position for him to appear like he knows how to play for the camera.
Tell me I'm wrong.
His fingers say G chord, but he's on the wrong fret!!!
Bush doesn't even need to speak to lie!!
What a trifling fraud he is.
Bush Must Go!!!!!
This is the result of the last 4 years of our country's preparing for an inevitable we're told large scale emergency and evacuation??? WTF??!!??
We cannot afford to have this man as our leader in this post 9/11 world.
My letter to the editor. Links and all.
Please everyone write write write.
There are no words suitable for print to describe my utter disgust after seeing pictures of President Bush smiling and strumming a guitar at a VJ Day event he used to try and draw a line between WWII and his war `for what I don't know' in Iraq, knowing that at that very moment there are Americans drowning due to National Guard shortages because of it.
There are A LOT more similarities between Nero and George W. Bush than there ever will be between the war in Iraq and WWII.
If this isn't an impeachable offense, nothing is.
"Bush likens situation in Iraq to WWII..." VJ Day speech Aug 30 SF Chronicle
Well, George always seems to be a little late to events such as this. Remember how long he sat and read "My Pet Goat" after being informed we were under attack.

Posted by at August 31, 2005 06:06 PMAs I predicted earlier, Bush had once again shrunk from the battle and has asked his Daddy and Bill Clinton to take over for him in this crisis. MY GOD you trolls, why doesn't Bush just appoint Bill Clinton president and get this last 3.5 years over with. george w. bush - chickensh*t in a crisis, worthless any other time.
Posted by T2 at August 31, 2005 06:45 PMWe were hit last year in Western NC by Hurricanes Frances and then a week later, Charley. We lost our bridge and were trapped along with all of our neighbors up the road as the road was washed out. We were stranded for three days using our generator. The only people who came to help were friends of our neighbors who were in the construction business and had a backhoe. The other person was our mailman who lives up on the mountain behind us and who hiked down to bring us gasoline for our generator.
Our tenant's elderly mother just barely got out as the night of the second hurricane she went to the hospital with a bladder infection. Otherwise she would have been trapped with us. The county fixed the road in a few days but because we are on the other side of the creek and our bridge was down, it took us weeks to build a road to our neighbor's house and months to build a new bridge. The total cost of this was $65,000.
I called FEMA the day of the hurricane (luckily we had phone lines though no electricity). They came out to see the damage about three weeks later. After about a month and half they sent us five thousand dollars. The state later came through with enough money to pay for about half of the bridge/road costs, but that was the last we heard of FEMA. Everything else that was done for us was done by the county and the state.
Then we found out early this year that FEMA had given all kinds of money to Republican areas in the east of the state where they had litle or no damage at all.

Posted by obelus at August 31, 2005 07:53 PMWith so many errors made the most Bush can do to show he cares is to drive over in a hellicopter 3 times and play a guitar. I woory that the House and Senaate is going to let him be in charge of his own investigation into the fallings. I urge all true left leaning people to listen to the great statesman of our time, Lyndon Larouche. Buy the Federalist newspamphlet it tells the whole truth. I thought I was political but now I am more so with this pamhlet.
