Can someone explain what the Chief Justice's job is that differs from the other justices. Just trying to figure out how much it matters. I mean, he still only gets one vote, and if he's supposed to try to form consensus, it doesn't seem like that happens too often.

Posted by Judith at September 5, 2005 10:24 AMCG, some guy on CNN said the chief justice decides who writes opinions. But then tried to say it was "mostly symbolic." I don't know enough about it beyond that.
