Can someone explain what the Chief Justice's job is that differs from the other justices. Just trying to figure out how much it matters. I mean, he still only gets one vote, and if he's supposed to try to form consensus, it doesn't seem like that happens too often.

CG, some guy on CNN said the chief justice decides who writes opinions. But then tried to say it was "mostly symbolic." I don't know enough about it beyond that.
