Comments: The Smoking Gun: Memo Shows Chertoff Didn't Act For 36 Hours Even With Authority To Go Around State Officials

So maybe Bushco's mea culpa was the equivalent of a Friday night news dump...intended to take the wind out of the story...

Posted by Roy Batty at September 14, 2005 02:19 AM

Chertoff knows how to present an image much better than Owwer Leedur. He had Tim Russert wrapped around his little finger on Mete The Cess, and until today had little criticism from the SCLM.

What this is telling me is that Bu$hCo has lost control of a significant portion of the print media, but as more people claim they get their news exclusively from TV or radio, Bu$hCo still has a chance of pulling their fat asses out of the fire. All they need is for the corporate media to stand by them like they have for the past six years and continue to present an image over substance.

Go Knight Ridder, once again getting the story (al la WMDs in Iraq) that the big boys won't.

When they named Chertoff, I wondered immediately what would possess a man to give up lifetime tenure to be a political appointee. Bad call, Chertie.

This story is a vital piece of evidence. It destroys all GOP and troll spin on the disaster management. Bush took complete control early and screwed it up big-time. Rove was in kidneystone-land, and George was left to cook up the political angle on his own...and clearly failed, miserably.

First comes denial...and then finally acceptance.

Imagine my chagrin. I read the story and find that everything I ever believed in my life lies in a broken pile.

My sincere apology to Ms. Blanco. In my unknowing response to posters on this thread, I cast this fine leader in a negative light. For this, my shame will follow me throughout the rest of my miserable life.

I tried to deny the facts, but when I opened the report by John Conyers, the game was over. IT HAD THE CONGRESSIONAL SEAL.

Conyers, along with the Black Caucus, have been the "go to" group for timely, non-partisan information for as long as I can remember. Who can argue with the facts? Not I.

Go ahead and let me have it.

No, you seem to have learned a valuable lesson. I, for one, am delighted to see your progress.

J.West, as we like to say on TLC, "walk into the light."

I detect a heavy amount of sarcasm in j.west's post.

But not in mine? Your detector may need a tune-up.

It's hard to do nuance on the Internet.

Do I detect a certain note of sarcasm there, j?

Coz, the report that Mr. Conyers has under his Congressional Seal, which means he's given his sworn word, you know accepts responsibility for its content, is from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, not the Democrats on the committee.

Posted by Duckman GR at September 14, 2005 09:09 AM

[T]he report that Mr. Conyers has under his Congressional Seal. . .is from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, not the Democrats on the committee.

Yes, but if he had dealt with it honestly, j.west wouldn't have been able to slip "Black Caucus" into his spiel, and let's face it, that was goal #1.

Posted by dj moonbat at September 14, 2005 09:12 AM

As we saw yesterday when Bush pretended to accept responsibility, even sociopaths know that sometimes it's politically expedient to pretend remorse. You are and will always be, a fuckwad, jwest. But you may have a future on fox news.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 14, 2005 09:41 AM

Of course, as President, Mr. Bush has always been ultimately responsible for the actions of the Federal government. So now Mr. Bush claims belatedly, two weeks after the fact, that he is will to "take responsibility" for the disastrous FEMA response to the flooding of New Orleans? Fine and dandy. Will Mr. Bush also be willing to "take responsibility" for the continuing slaughter of the Iraqi people by the continuing U. S. occupation of Iraq? Will Mr. Bush also be willing to "take responsibility" for all of his lies used to con the American people and Congress into supporting the illegal criminal invasion of Iraq? Will Mr. Bush also be willing to "take responsibility" for his attempted destruction of our Social Security system? Will Mr. Bush also be willing to "take responsibility" for the GOP theft of the Presidential election in 2000 in Florida? Will Mr. Bush also be willing to "take responsibility" for the electronic hacking, rigging and election theft of the 2004 Presidential election? Will Mr. Bush also be willing to "take responsibility" for his Administration's unwillingness to heed some four-dozen warnings to the FAA and to seal off the airliner cockpits and thus stop any potential terrorist hijackings in 2001?
Mr. Bush: grow up, act like a man, and resign. Bush should also force Mr. Cheney to resign first and nominate John Edwards, Al Gore or Senator Barbara Boxer in his place, to give us some competent experienced national leadership over the next three years.
Yours truly,

bush is the stupidest asshole in human history .. that is a "given" but what about the inner circle at the WH who take advantage of that "retard"?

Our idiot-in-chief has outdone himself again as he "resigns" the wrong guy ... poor brownie .. what am I saying?! Screw brownie! Long live brownie and all the rest of them bastards ....

I know that no one wants to say this but I must, I do not want to be the famous bearer of bad news but I have to ... here it goes.

It is now time to go shit in bush's grave .. we must get that hole filled to the rim and make sure the fucker is placed face down in it ...

That is right, all of you who vowed to do just that must now come up to bat and make sure the fucker eats his own shit.

I pity the poor maggots destined to eat that bush crap ...

jwest's "mea culpa" sounds just like everything else he spouts around here. Let me just say, I'm a bit, how do you say.....skeptical.

Posted by emal at September 14, 2005 01:35 PM

Bush's mea culpa wasn't. Remember, he prefaced his statement with "to the extent that the federal government..." By the time the republican slime machine is done, the culprits will be Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin, but no republicans in Mississippi and jus tof good measure, they'll somehow blame Bill Clinton, Howard Dean and Ted Kennedy. The federal government's share of the blame will be miniscule, and all of that will be because the feds relied upon what state (democratic) officials told them.
