Comments: Does The Public Really Care How Much Gas Bush Burns Trying To Look Like He Cares?

So exactly who is 'Joe Sixpack?' To me it seems insulting. Is it intended that way? And if so, why would you want to?

Posted by gail davis at September 27, 2005 08:17 AM

Wall-o-worry.

Did you see the survey of the "worst economic indicator?"

Consumer confidence.

LOL.

Posted by muckdog at September 27, 2005 08:22 AM

OK Gail, I'll change it to Joe LunchBox.

Posted by Steve Soto at September 27, 2005 08:23 AM

Seems to me that the press is pointing out the obvious damage control campaign that propels Bush's visits - the obvious phoniness. Why isn't that legitimate?

To put it another way, your premise (that the press can't bash him for not showing up and then bash him for showing up) is faulty. If he's showing up to reverse his own political freefall, it doesn't have much to do with helping anyone but himself, does it?

Posted by leni at September 27, 2005 08:32 AM

I agree completely with this post. It's completely unfair to bash Bush for not doing anything during Katrina, and then bash him for responding to the criticism during Rita. And if too many liberals take this stance, it will look very, very bad.

Posted by SurcamStances at September 27, 2005 08:38 AM

Seems to me it's perfectly fair to call Bush on not doing anything re: Katrina and then pretending to do something re: Rita.

Just as Clinton was constantly accused of "spin", it's about time someone besides Michael Moore and the leftblogosphere called Bush on "playing dress-up".

Posted by Kate at September 27, 2005 08:44 AM

Actually, Gail, I'm Joe Sixpack: representing the average voter who thinks he's a conservative republican while he makes the arguement for the left. I love to post after a troll, by taking the "right" side and keep them honest.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but someone like me has to keep the rightwingers like muckdog, with their exaggerated claims and bogus facts, in check.

Posted by Joe Sixpack at September 27, 2005 09:01 AM

I think the distinction that needs to be made is the contrast of being an effective leader and creating the appearance of being an effective leaderin the time of a national disaster.

The only thing that I've seen from Bush that he is really serious about addressing it, is his obvious struggle to say that we need to be better "conservers".

Posted by Simp at September 27, 2005 09:26 AM

muckdog, Parents working 2 jobs to make a living and provide for their children, gives you some sort of chuckle? Your sicker than I thought! I defended my country for sorry asses like you also, so keep laughing! When the 06 election goes to the Dems. and the big bad Dem. who takes the White House in 08 raises taxes, I'll be laughing then. At you muck and your ilk.
Steve, You keep the heat on that moron, maybe we'll get lucky and he'll fall off his shiney new bike!

Posted by bbtb at September 27, 2005 09:29 AM

The Bu$hCo administration is finished. Just look at the expression on Dumbya's face. He knows it. Soon everyone will.

Oh, Gail...

Joe/Jane Sixpacks and Joe/Jane Lunchbox's are everywhere. They're people who don't drink Chardonnay or eat Quiche. Many don't even read this blog! You should get out more.

Posted by Tibor at September 27, 2005 10:35 AM

Hey, Muckdog, I like your snide take up above on the "worst economic indicator." I like the slick way you gloat, as that is a sure way to get our point across to the liberals here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Junior took office hasn't the poverty rates risen dramatically to over 37 million people? And the price of gas---think that might be an "economic indicator" as well? I mean, I'm on your side here, but I'm thinking that that wall-o-worry you mentioned must be all those scared Republicans up for reelection in the face of a rapidly developing recession.

Here's an "economic indicator" that usually wipes the smirk right off most of us conservatives faces: after Junior's nearly six years of "economic prosperity" the stock market is STILL about a 1,000 points lower than when he first took office.

Posted by Joe Sixpack at September 27, 2005 10:38 AM

and to add to Joe sixpack of Bush lite, the DJIA today is at about 10440 whereas at the beginning of 2005 it was at 10450. Essentially no change in 3/4's of a year. Recovery, my ass...
and muckface, bite me.

I don't think it's a big deal that he's wasting fuel jetting here and there for his photo ops. The big story should be that it is only for photo ops and appearances sake. As long as Bush has to deal up close and personal with real people instead of scripted with the crowds vetted for loyalty, he is going to keep screwing up and making his potemkin presidency obvious. I say let him waste fuel and keep him on the road and in the air.

Posted by Donna at September 27, 2005 10:58 AM

The brainwashed, selfish, immature, greedy, bigots and cowards that supported Bush should also be held accountable for this mess.

Basically, we have a combination of “looting the U.S. Treasury” and Incompetent negligence.

The hurricanes pulled the cover off the lies the corporate media and the government is telling.

The results tell the story. Haliburton and other connected thieves are making out while the U.S. Treasury is looted. The blind public blames the crimes on the victims. The so-called pro-war parrots blame activist for putting our soldiers in harms way. The mental paralysis of this large group of U.S. citizens is the real problem. Bush is only doing what he has always done. Running everything he touches into the ground at someone else’s expense.

To Steve Soto - Thanks. It does, to me at least, seem less judgemental.

To Joe Sixpack - Hi, glad to meet ya'

To Tibor - Perhaps, except for the fact that I read this site, I qualify as Jane Sixpack or Lunchbox though I seldom drink beer or Chardonnay. Does that disqualify me?

Well now I know what kind of question to pose to get a response of a kind.

Posted by gail davis at September 27, 2005 11:42 AM

I usually agree with Steve, but I don't understand this post.

Bush is responding to the incredible human tragedy by staging his seventh photo op trip to the area. He is not doing too much, he is doing exactly what he always does.

This is not about the hurricane victims. Predictably, it is about him. Hooray for the media for finally picking up on it.

Posted by Mister Go at September 27, 2005 11:49 AM

Quiche-eaters and beer-guzzlers both agree that Bush was one storm too late. I absolutely disagree that he should not be criticized for all of these very expensive trips in service of his own image. We all know that he could do everything he needs to from the WH. The criticism re Katrina was not that he wasn't in the field but that he was occupied with everything but the storm. The expense for all of the jet fuel and everything that accompanies it means nothing to those affected and everything to Karl Rove.

Posted by MrsT at September 27, 2005 12:00 PM

it's absolutely embarassing and pathetic to watch that fraud fly around the country acting like he's in charge..he's suppose to manage the managers..not be one...his management style has brought this entire country to where it is today...on it's knees...wondering whats coming next...he is a total fucking disaster and it should be a surprise to no one....

Posted by dennis at September 27, 2005 12:27 PM

The new Democracy Corps poll and memo is a real eye opener. 45% of the respondents said they are finished with Boosh, 43% strongly disapprove, and only 28% strongly approve.

Elvis has left the building, and even the GOP rats are abandoning BushCo.

Details of the implosion at MyDD.

What a bunch of great entries here. All worth the read.

Posted by Hank at September 27, 2005 01:33 PM

Man, that post made me thirsty.

Posted by joe sixpack at September 27, 2005 01:49 PM

I call him Pretzident Photo-Op Bush, the biggest beer... er...gas guzzler of them all.

Posted by Sharon at September 27, 2005 02:29 PM

As Bush doesn't, or to be precise, can't think for himself, you have to wonder what the hell is going on with Rove? Perhaps he has heard that he may be subpoenaed by the Plame commission. Either that, or he is still recovering from bedding Laura. Could it be that "Bush's Brain" has flat-lined on Oxycontin?

Posted by tempus at September 27, 2005 02:48 PM

Thanks for taking off the liberal blinders Steve on this piece and the Sheehan comments.

Bush is overcompensating since he hosed up the last hurricane - I think every Joe sixpack can see that. I doubt there will be a bounce in the polls at all from this.

Posted by Tex at September 27, 2005 02:53 PM

$6,000 per hour for the Presidential plane, Raw Story is reporting. I can't believe I'm paying for this.

Posted by MrsT at September 27, 2005 03:17 PM

I think Bush's "bounce" days are over.

Posted by Judith at September 27, 2005 05:11 PM

I think Bush's "bounce" days are over. (Judith)...except when we bounce the whole lot out on their asses in Nov 06......Gail, we're generally speaking about Bob & Doris America..not slagging anyone...don't be offended, please

Posted by Goyo at September 27, 2005 06:09 PM

Bob and Doris America? You're joking, right?

Posted by at September 27, 2005 07:54 PM

Joe SixPack, is the guy who works hard all day, comes home, pops open a beer and sits in front of the TV in a recliner watching shows that dumbdown America or Nascar racing or sports. He probably never reads books or news papers. If he watches the News, it is most likely faux Fox. He most likely owns a pick-up with a gun rack inside the cab, and is rabidly for the NRA. His view of the world is pretty simple and black and white. He maybe a racist. He knows nothing about politics, but only believes what he is told to believe. His educational background is a high school diploma or he may have dropped out of school. If he votes, it will probably be Republican. He believes in the slogan "my Country right or wrong" or "if you don't like it, leave it." He is part of the fabric called America.

Pretty funny and wildly stereotypical. I think of Joe Sixpack as the guy who works hard for his money. I never really thought of him as a moron. Maybe your Joe Sixpack is the left's version of the right's welfare mom.
