"Bush is running around talking about how the military has to be given more authority for going in to communities during disasters irregardless of the state and local authorities."
Well Mary, maybe that is the real reason Bush allowed things to reach horrific proportions in NO. Now he can say that the military needs greater power during times of disasters, including the ability to circumvent state and local authorities. With Bush, there is always a hidden agenda (or in this case, not so hidden).
Just like Iraq, allow terrorists to carry out their attack upon the American people, then use said attack as the reason to go to war. Do I detect a pattern here?
It seems obvious to me that Bush was blackmailing Blanco, refusing to send aid unless she ASKED him to declare martial law. IMHO Blanco is an unsung hero for refusing to cave in to this behavior.
At the rate we're going, we're going to run out of unsung heroes pretty soon.
Posted by serial catowner at September 28, 2005 05:58 AMThats what the boogey man at the superdome was all about. Scare the folks into thinking it aint safe to go in and demand more power to protect your forces. He was twisting Blanco's arm before the storm hit.
Posted by CDB at September 28, 2005 07:01 AMGuys can I have some Kool-Aid? How come these problems have NEVER happened in any other state besides Louisiana? We have had many hurricanes and only New Orleans and Louisiana can’t bring aid and security to the people in a timely manner. How come Florida (before and during Jeb), North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland never had the problems responding? Do you see a pattern here? The word incompetent doesn’t even begin to describe Nagin and Blanco (I would also add dysfunctional).
Posted by Cyber Sarge at September 28, 2005 08:06 AMHe's a "war president." What else can we expect?
Posted by ann at September 28, 2005 08:50 AMLooks like you're already full-up on the kool-aid, cybertraitor.
If the word incompetent doesn't even begin to describe Nagin and Blanco, what does it say about Putsch and his Arabian Horseman? Funny how you leave out all criticism of the Cokespoon Cowboy from your diatribes...
Funny how those hurricanes in Florida (except they weren't really hurricanes, just intense storms) received prompt attention and unwarranted funds, right before a national election.
Funny how Blanco and Nagin were begging FEMA for help a day before the hurricans hit, and FEMA couldn't get there for five days.
Funny how, when FEMA finally did take action, they declared the entire state of Louisiana a disaster area except for the coastal counties. Funny how they did the exact opposite in MS and AB at eactly the same time. Funny how the entire state of Texas was declared a disaster area when the next hurricane hit, inculding the areas over 500 miles inland.
And real funny how unpatriotic anti-American traitors such as yourself can't seem to get those details into your rhetoric. Almost like you and your ilk are more concerned with maintaining a Repugnicant theocracy instead of taking care of things, like the last legally elected president did even when his personal life was exposed to the nation on a daily basis.
Smarter Pinhead-fellating trolls, please...

I can never decide if they're trying to convince us or themselves by repeating the same things over and over and over and over....
Posted by ann at September 28, 2005 09:56 AMIn a world where the leaders in Government have pushed class warfare to the front of all things domestic, poor people == insurgents. Of course in that context, the poverty rate of New Orleans equates to "rampaging hordes".
Posted by ascap_scab at September 28, 2005 11:52 AMBush's suggestion is alarming for a number of reasons. What's ironic is that we have a President who sends the National Guard to invade and occupy a foreign nation and now wants to use the Military to guard our Nation in times of National emergency. If it wasn't so frightening, horrible and sad it would be funny.
