Comments: This 'Morals' Things Isn't What It's Crackered Up To Be!

The moral left will make a comeback. It is impossible to have national attention set on morality with only sex based conduct brought into question. Even if it were possible to avoid the larger issue before Katrina, it is not ignorable now. That storm may yet change America as much as 911 once had the potential to do.

I read about Bennett's statement earlier today. While he is entitled to his opinion, free speech and all, I can't help but wonder, "What was he thinking?" Just like Barbara Bush, I'm sure he just doesn't realize that he's a racist.

Will the Bu$hCo Media ever get the message?

Posted by NealB at September 29, 2005 09:06 PM

We need to know fairly soon what all the poor suckers the Democratic Party expects soon will return to the fold will get for their votes. It's been so long since Democrats did anything that I can't remember what good voting for a Democrat will do! Will the Democrats actually bury the fuckers on the other side who have held me as a wage-slave all my life? Or is that all just talk?

Hey, this guy is writing about you!

No he's not. He's flagellating himself as if he's a real man like he thinks he is. You can do better than this, muck. Sinking to this level demeans even you. - p

Well, if you had aborted all those Republican children, the culture of corruption never would have happened.

The MSM is paying attention to Bennett's comment. How does one "mischaracterize" such a statement?

As far as I am concerned, it is just more vile hate speech that is allowed to go out on the airwaves of this Country. Rush has been saying such outrageous statements like this for years. This is the mind of the GOP. If you think that Bush dragged his feet in responding to Katrina, it is statements such as Bennett's that give credence to that thought.

...see jesus general has a letter to bennett and sen. erwin...

Katrina has done marvels for bring out the core racism that underlies Republicanism.
There is a little story on Bennett in the Washington Post today.

Posted by Mike at September 30, 2005 07:16 AM

And where in Hell is the FCC on this? That trash talk was broadcast on the public airwaves, right? Should we be missing Michael Powell now? Naaaah! (;>

Posted by Donald Cormac at September 30, 2005 09:50 AM

Donald, while what Bennett said was offensive and morally reprehensible, it was not obscene or profane by FCC terms. There was no cursing, no nudity, no wardrobe malfunction. With freedom of speech, Bennett is allowed to say such racist things. It is our responsibility as progressives, to point out that while he probably doesn't think he's racist, this comment most definitely proves that he is racist.

Pretty offensive. I was pretty disappointed because Bill was one of the most reasonable talk show hosts I've come accross. He didn't try to incite his audience and generally had a good debate on his program. Definitely partisan, but a good debate and he seemed to hold sincere opinions. Hard to justify what he said, but it could be taken out of context to be made worse. i.e. Bill didn't think it would be a good idea. Still the idea of linking race to crime reeks of old school racism to me. There is a higher crime rate among blacks, but it is due to socioeconomic conditions, not any genetic factors... anyway, very disappointing...

However, it is denizens of the left that in veritable deed are slicing and dicing the next generation of black children.

Bendito:

Actually, we denizens tend to smoke dope and volunteer to aid third world countries. Slicing and dicing is Donald's department. May I just say that in reviewing your posts of the last six months, I wish I hadn't.

Goddammit, Pessimist, your posts are too long. Take a page from the people at Hallmark and tighten this stuff up. Jesus!

Posted by Toby Petzold at September 30, 2005 04:32 PM

Dear Toby:

Given the current immolation of the GOP, why be succinct? The list is getting longer and longer. And rumour has it that Georgie is now mainlining Xanax.

Posted by tempus at September 30, 2005 05:01 PM

Pessimist, not to be contrarian to Toby P's comment above nor too heretikal, but I very much enjoy coming by here and seeing how you take apart the issues and the personalities involved in such detail and at such length. Salud.

I'm fairly amused (in a dark sort of way)at how the political left has taken the tactics of Michael Moore and run with them. What Bennett said was about as racist as saying "The sky is blue", but if you didn't listen to his remarks in context, you come away with the uninformed conclusions which have been drawn.

Is A.D.D. contagious?

Hope not, though it seems to have spread across the Democratic Party at an alarming rate.

What i want to know is why when i went to a 98% black school the cops were out at the school about every other day, when compared with going to a white school the cops were out at the school about once or twice a month, please explain that to me.
