Comments: Miers Supports Legislating From The Bench When It Comes To Trial Attorneys

Harriet Miers has been nominated for protection. She has protected Bush for years as his lawyer. Immagine how she would vote if any case involving Bush or any others from this Neoconservative administration, came before the Supreme Court. She is also a follower who would easily be advised on how to vote. Are we paying attention to how much emphasis is being placed on her becoming a "born again Christian." Now the Bush archives released info. on her arguing in favor of corporations. These are the two groups that have funded Bush. These are the groups that he must and has begun to pay off. They want her corporate leaning ways to hit every media outlet.

Since I'm actually from here, I think I have a bit to offer on this topic. The legal profession in Texas is, IMHO, a mess. Judges run for their seats in partisan elections and even though the league of women voters gets info from them just like others running for political office, they don't get their positions based on their creds. Just look at the junior senator from Texas -- what a disgrace.

I'm not surprised that Miers spouted off about trial lawyers -- the push here to corral them has been going on for years -- mostly since attorneys were allowed to advertise. There are, of course, some sleazoids in the trial lawyer corner -- one in particular is John O'Neill (jury tampering) of Houston, and then there's the one who got the Merck (I think) verdict this summer in Alvin (shopping for a judge) -- there's even one that advertises here who calls himself "the hammer" -- too funny. But for every ambulance chaser, there are many very good lawyers pursuing legit cases.

If memory serves me -- and that article link refernces it I think -- Miers wrote that when the legislature in Texas was still majority democrat. It would make sense since they (w et al) were not getting their way at the time through legislative means. I may be way off base here -- just working from memory.
