Comments: McCain Sells His Soul: Endorses Blackwell For Ohio Governor

Totally serious question:

Who did you think he was going to endorse?

Posted by j.west at October 7, 2005 06:55 PM

Oh, I don't know; how about Jim Petro.

How about someone with some ethics?

Might be kind of hard locking up the republican nomination for '08 with that pick.

But, then again, McCain is batshit crazy so maybe you weren't so far off.

hey, j west, he has a black baby, too.

run with that, willya j? thanks a bunch.

Steve, can you review all the previous Leftcoaster posts that have said something to the effect of "McCain Sells Out". I'm guessing you'll find lots of posts. What hold does this guy have on the left...time after time the left whines about McCain turning on them. The guy is a Right Winger. Period. He is not, nor will he ever be a benefit to the Left, or even the middle, for that matter. Just dump him and move on.

Come on now....

Karl's in the next room, so I know it's not really him in that post.

i'm using my blackberry, smart guy.

Just a bit off topic, but relevant.

The discussion of “sell out” and Ohio struck a chord with me as it brought back the memory of John Glenn.

Being of the era, as a kid I idolized this guy. We use to have fights in the neighborhood about who got to be Glenn in our make believe space flights. The winner of these fights wore the old coverall “flight suit” with the vacuum cleaner hose attached and the air force surplus helmet.

When he was elected to the senate, I thought that even though he ran as a democrat, he was still an honorable man and the country would be better off with him there.

Then came the Thomson hearings on selling missile guidance technology to the Chinese. Glenn co-chaired the committee.

Not one substantive question. Defense all the way. He sold his soul and honor for a fucking ride on the space shuttle.

Hope he had a good time.

he should have endorsed you west as long as he is endorsing assholes...

Don't you have people to enslave and punish u.jest? What a multitasker you are!

McCain campaigned with w. Whatever misgiving he may have had were erased with that one action. I don't understand why w disses him, nor do I understand why McCain is still a republican. It makes no sense.

Remember he was cutting cake w/bu$h when Katrina came ashore! Since living in AZ for the last 2 years, he is the biggest flip-flopper I've ever seen. He wants to stand up to the devil, but is not sure if he will help him win the next election, just yet!

I hate the fact that McCain endorsed Blackwell who did quite a bit to steal the 2004 Presidential election but the torture is so horrifying that anything to stop it has to be tried.

There is a UK site with a lot of information on how to help those who are imprisoned at Gitmo, UK's Belmarsh and elsewhere. Please check out the site and contribute to one of the action items, if only writing a letter or sending a National Geographic to one of these prisoners who are being tortured that they are not forgotten.

Litigation Update~~~

We were heartened by last night's Senate decision, after a fierce and drawn-out battle, to pass Sen. John McCain's anti-torture amendment. His amendment passed by a remarkable 90-9 vote.

Boldly challenging the White House, the Senate sent a clear message that there is a torture problem, it must be fixed, and the time is now. Torture will not be tolerated.

Thank you for your hard work! Supporters like you helped win votes in the Senate, and the response was overwhelming. Even Sen. Bill Frist, who had been blocking this amendment, voted for the provision.

Only nine Senators withheld their support: Allard (R-CO), Bond (R-MO), Coburn (R-OK), Cochran (R-MS), Cornyn (R-TX), Inhofe (R-OK), Roberts (R-KS), Sessions (R-AL), and Stevens (R-AK).

In addition to the letter from 28 retired senior military leaders informally coordinated by Human Rights First to support Senator McCain, former Secretary of State Colin Powell also endorsed the amendment yesterday. He wrote in a letter to Sen. McCain: "The world will note that America is making a clear statement with respect to the expected future behavior of our soldiers. Such a reaction will help deal with the terrible public diplomacy crisis created by Abu Ghraib."

Senator McCain's amendment, which sets a clear standard for U.S. interrogations of detainees and prohibits torture, goes a long way to ensure that the atrocities committed by U.S. troops at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere will never be repeated.

But we have major obstacles ahead. We still face fierce opposition from the White House, which threatened just yesterday to veto the amendment. Also, the legislation now moves to a House-Senate Conference Committee, where it will face strong opposition.

You helped us get this far. Now we will need your support to ensure that Sen. McCain's important amendment survives.

I'll certainly keep you updated in the days to come.

Thank you so much for fighting with us to end torture. Your contributions are crucial to our campaign.

Sincerely,

Jill Savitt

Sandra, I wonder how any of them sleep at night or any other time:

Supporters like you asked your Senators to vote for Sen. McCain's legislation. And now it looks like enough of them will! But the battle isn't over. Please fill out the form below to tell the White House and Senate Majority Leader to quit trying to silence Senator McCain. After you have sent the letter below, ask your friends and
family to join us in this effort by sending letters of their own.

McCain is crazy and a whore. 1. No one could be tortured for all those years and be normal. 2. If he can still play nice with his wife and kid's attackers for his own political gain, what would someone have to do to us (Joe Sixpack) to really piss this man off? 3. Even if he wasn't nuts and a whore, he is still a right winger of the first order.

Well Oakland, why don't we do a "Swift Boat" number on McCain. It might go as followers:

"After years of pretending to be a veteran of torture during the VietNam War, it has been disclosed that McCain tortured himself, because he knew that he would be running for President one day. After interviewing those who served with McCain, not one remembers McCain being captured or tortured. In fact, there is some evidence that McCain may have not even been in VietNam."

i second dorita, et al. mc cain campaigning for shrub after the latter had attacked him in such a low way says it all. OTOH, the anti-torture amendment is a good start to get out of the moral hole we've dug. credit where it's due, venom where it's due.

McCain will never be free from the Lincoln Savings scandal. Whatever it is that they still have on him, they know that everytime he strays off the reservation, he will meekly return as directed whenever that Polaroid is mailed (or sent by some other manner) to him.

The only possible recourse for us is to ignore him when he's quiet or doing something we condone (like this anti-torture measure) and to oppose him when he's not. Any support from us weakens us.
