Halliburton and Bechtel have scramble teams on the way I'm sure.
Posted by steve duncan at October 8, 2005 10:06 AMI've just received an email from my Pakastani distributor and he reports FEMA is not there yet.
DAMN YOU GEORGE BUSH!
Posted by j.west at October 8, 2005 12:02 PMJust where is Pakastan, u.jest?

Let's give a little credit for the Jon Stewart impression.
Posted by j.west at October 8, 2005 12:42 PMOne of my best friends from college is smack-dab in harm's way, in a small mining village between Lahore and Islamabad.
I visited him in Pakistan once (so doubtless, I'm on a list somewhere). The construction practices in Pakistan give new meaning to the word "slipshod." I suspect the end of this story is going to very grim.
Posted by dj moonbat at October 8, 2005 12:53 PMChimp may be lucky and Bin Hidin's cave collapsed on him......agreed DJ...the final tally will be horrible.
Posted by Goyo at October 8, 2005 01:22 PMDJ,
Sorry to hear that....
Thanks. My friend is perhaps the luckiest person ever, so I have to believe he and his family are okay (hell, I've got no choice but to believe it, since it's unlikely I'll be able to verify that he's okay for weeks).
But Pakistan is far from the luckiest country ever, and I think that while this will not be tsunami bad, this will be very, very bad.
Is it just that my sensors are out of whack, or have we been witnessing an unusual rash of serious disasters over the past year?
Posted by dj moonbat at October 8, 2005 05:29 PMI had a real sinking feeling when I heard about the quake on the news this morning.
dj, I hope your friend is ok, I truly do.
