Pessimist,
Please explain why you or anyone else on the left would take comfort in this argument on the right?
The reason conservatives are so upset about Bush’s pick is that it was too soft. We have worked for decades to bring the sun, moon and stars into perfect alignment for the appointment of a conservative legal scholar whose credentials are so airtight that the very mention of his/her name would make any liberals head explode.
Anyone who Harry Reid would stand next to without causing him a brain embolism is totally unacceptable to the people who supported Bush.
Conservatives want someone who will be filibustered. They want to shove the nominee down the throat of liberals. They want the battle between good (us) and evil (you) fought on this field at this moment in history.
Sometimes I believe if you see two people in suits arguing on a street corner, you would then run back and say “the republicans are falling apart”.
Who would have thought that Bu$h would nominate someone to the Supreme Court who may get more Democratic votes than Republican ones? Sometimes I'm more pissed at the Dems than I am at the crooked self-centered Repubs.
Posted by Cookie Monster at October 8, 2005 01:31 PMThank you, J.west, for taking it upon yourself to be the official spokesman of the Republican Party. I'm sure that every conservative American in this country wants nothing less than political Armageddon the same way you do.
Posted by DukeRevolution at October 8, 2005 01:32 PMDuke,
Normally I would have referred this post over to the official spokesman, but its Saturday and he has the day off.
Did you catch Ann Coulter on Real Time last night? She seemed more than a little pissed.
I pity you, west.
GW doesn't give Damn One about you any more than he does about anyone else he doesn't know personally.
He needs a nominee who is personally loyal to him- NOW. Otherwise, he'll be too legally entangled to get anyone through the Senate. No other considerations matter to him at this point. He can't waste time or energy stanidng on principle- principle is nice, but it makes a lousy cellmate.
Posted by at October 8, 2005 01:57 PMRoberts, Scalia, and Thomas will vote Bush's cronies "not guilty" when they go to trial. Miers will be the fourth vote, so GW needs only one more vote to keep his buddies out of jail.
Posted by Cookie Monster at October 8, 2005 02:02 PMOr to keep GWB out of jail.

You really don't care about the SCOTUS do you. Just so our "heads explode" at the mention of a name. You summed up what the GOP goal is. Thanks.
Posted by Judith at October 8, 2005 02:14 PMOne step ahead of me, Judith.
There's not one word in u.jest's post that shows she actually cares about the country. It's all about revenge. Why does she hate America?
But I'm grateful to her for the heads-up about dAnn's appearance on Reel Time. I'll be sure to avoid it. Not that I scramble to watch the show anyway.

Anon has it right, Bush doesn't care about "the movement", the federalist society or the latest tripe Heritage puts out. Bush is only interested in a judge that can make the threat of prison go away.
I don't know why the italics didn't work on the last posting.

Posted by rlp at October 8, 2005 03:01 PMBush can't admit a mistake. The Right used to call that his Steadfast Detemination. Now they call it nuts.

Yes, I did, and as usual, went straight to the washroom and threw up. She/he/it is certainly one of a kind, and should be placed in a large jar of formaldehyde while she is still at her most revolting.
The only lucid comments Bork ever made were on the Simpsons, and Homer thought they were weird.
Posted by tempus at October 8, 2005 04:39 PMIf you see the video or look at the linked transcript, Carlson comes across as even more bitchy than usual. The right seems to be melting. Melting. They sound like Margaret Hamilton's Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz.
Posted by The Heretik at October 8, 2005 05:08 PMBush has nominated Miers to protect mainly himself, but also to vote the way the Neoconservatives want her to vote so they can continue their radical agenda and remain in power. If anyone or any group needs activist judges on the Supreme Court, George Bush, Cheney and the rest of the gang do.
Posted by kaw at October 8, 2005 05:08 PMAnn the Man was so upset last night, you could see his/her Adam's apple jiggling furiously at the mere mention of Miers...
but seriously, considering how deeply Miers is in Bush's affairs, how could Miers *not* recuse herself from any cases involving Bush and his cronies?
Posted by DW at October 8, 2005 06:22 PMDoes Bork opposing Miers increase the chance that she'll be borked?

Harriet E. Miers Helped Bring Feminist Speakers to Southern Methodist
(Sung to the tune of Monty Python's Spam Son)...
"Bork Bork Bork Bork, Bork Bork BorK Bork...".
Bork! How appropriate to hear his name bandied about as the Fitzgerald scaffold nears completion. You do recall his entree into the public arena, don't you? Hint: It was well before his nomination to the Supreme Court.
Posted by at October 8, 2005 09:39 PM"We've Got A Weiner"! As #3 man in Nixon's Justice Dept, Bork fired Watergate special prosecutor Archilbald Cox, after Attorney General Elliot Richardson and his deputy refused to do so, and were in turn fired by the Trickster. Bork's payoff for his treacherous loyalty came a decade later, when Reagan nonminated him to the high court. That single act, and not his judicial "philosophy", rendered him unfit for confirmation. He crashed, burned, and has whined about it for 20 years.
