I know we shouldn't take schadenfreude in the misfortune of others, but....

Posted by Judith at October 12, 2005 02:39 AM

Judith - there's a time to cry, and a time to dance, a time to plant and a time to pluck.

Posted by Gotham Image at October 12, 2005 03:09 AM

Have you heard the Avenue Q soundtrack? They have a delicious song called "Schadenfraude" which you have to hear, if you haven't already...

Posted by Lis Riba at October 12, 2005 03:48 AM

I couldn't think of a better word than schadenfreude to typify the mindset of the left. Lilliputian is a close runner up.

Posted by Mr Damage at October 12, 2005 04:25 AM

Lilliputian, the mind of the GOP.

WTF is it with the weblogs taking David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register seriously?

I'd post links, but I refuse to give his ideas any broader circulation than they are now. Both Daily Kos and The Left Coaster have front-paged an article he wrote Tuesday stating that the Democrats would be in an advantageous position to headline Kerry again in 2008.

For the last time - Yepsen is a centerist hack! His reputation exists only because of Iowa's caucuses, his ability to sweet talk and brown nose national political journalists, and his knowledge of good Des Moines resturants. He's a big fish in a small pond.

Ladies and gentlemen, David Yepsen's wetdream is to be the pundit king of Iowa. Is that any reason whatsoever to pay attention to his opinions?

Next time I see him in A'Dong, I'm going to kick his metaphorical shins.

Did y'all see the new Democrats.com poll that for the first time folksies here in Amerika think dickhead's impeachment is long overdue? I have a homemade sign in my car, Impeach Doofus! I get the thumbs up from many over-gas-priced citizens as I cart along down the highways and byways. Only thing is....ain't gonna happen. The PNAC'ers have their plan and ain't nobody, nohow, no way gonna interfere with it! Instead of shaden.... whatever, I like Sturm and Drang. Oh, yeah, I'm throwing my hat into the ring for 2008. Mal is running for President.

According to the Pentagon, since March 2003, 40 US Soldiers and 9 Marines had committed suicide in Iraq. At least 20 soldiers and 23 Marines have committed suicide since returning home.

I, along with many others, have not taken our Kerry/Edwards signs off our cars. For me it is my statement that I am not to blame for the failures of our Government.

Posted by Judith at October 12, 2005 05:03 AM

In President Mal Feasance's America, all rich people will go to prison; all prisoners will live on Fifth Avenue; every child will have 40 video games and a hybrid car; abortion rights will be secured forever because all the Supremes will go to their rightful place as rythm and blues singers; all public libraries will become public universities just like Carlisle envisioned and Britney Spears will be deported to Moscow.

No taxes of any kind. No fat people allowed anywhere. All shopping malls will offer free merchandise always. The White House will be painted Green. On and on....anybody wanna join my cabinet?

Posted by Mal Feasance at October 12, 2005 05:36 AM

You can call it schadenfreude. Or you can call it joy at the prospect that justice is finally being done to a pack of lying weasels. Finally: what goes around comes around.

Or so we hope.

Posted by kimster at October 12, 2005 05:43 AM

Judith:

I haven't taken my bumper sticker off either. Neither has my neighbor, or a whole bunch of people at my children's school. We refuse to. Mine isn't coming off until Bush is out of the White House.

Posted by kimster at October 12, 2005 05:45 AM

It's so odd to check this site today and see "schadenfrude." I first heard it a couple of weeks ago on Boston Legal. Since then, I've been coming across it everywhere. Makes me think.

Mal: keep taking your Prozac and someday, yes, you will be elected High Lord Mayor of Lilliput.

Posted by Mr Damage at October 12, 2005 06:16 AM

has a ring to it..MAL for pres...

Posted by headxray at October 12, 2005 06:25 AM

Kimster and Judith: I'm with you, kids. I kept my MONDALE/FERRERO bumpersticker on my old Datsun until Clinton was elected in '92. Never give up!

Posted by Eli at October 12, 2005 06:26 AM

Truth really is beauty. But, as the Republicans are brought down, one-by-one, we're going to face a terrible crisis of leadership. When Bush and Cheney fall, which miserable republican bastard will succeed them in the White House, it probably can't be Tom Delay, so will it be Roy Blunt? Or possibly Dennis Hassert? We're sunk no matter what happens to the Bush Team.

Toon of the Day: Harriet

Posted by jjoats at October 12, 2005 06:55 AM

Linda, that's why it's so important to have an impeachment in 2007 after the next Congress takes seat. With a lot of work, hope, and kicking of Diebold's ass, we will hopefully have control of the House, and Speaker Nancy Peolsi will succeed in an impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

I tell the incredulous, or people that point out the GOP replacements in Congress, that impeachment is not now, but building the foundation for it when the GOP is out of legislative power.

Posted by idiosynchronic at October 12, 2005 06:57 AM

all right, Mal, you've got my vote. can i be SoS?

Posted by benjoya at October 12, 2005 07:01 AM

I want to be NSA, since it appears there's no requirements for actual experience or competence. Plus, you get the cool shoes when disaster strikes.

Posted by iamcoyote at October 12, 2005 07:16 AM

I wanna be Mal's first Supreme Court nominee.

Because that position definately doesn't require actual experience or competence.

Posted by idiosynchronic at October 12, 2005 07:46 AM

President Mal: you can appoint Amy Goodman as head of the Ministry of Truth.

Posted by at October 12, 2005 07:47 AM

Schadenfreude is such an apropos term.

This would explain why Karl Rove enjoys his job so much. Why else would he have Bush praise Fitzgerald as “great prosecutor” who is “tough and honest” in the Matt Lauer interview yesterday?

How many liberals do you think will “end it all” after Joe and Valerie are indicted?

Personally, I think its wrong to take pleasure in watching liberals get worked into a lather thinking Rove, Libby, Cheney etc. are going to be indicted, then dash their hopes on the rocky shore of reality. Then again, there is a certain amount of “sadistic bastard” in all of us.

Just say no to answering the troll!!

Posted by iamcoyote at October 12, 2005 08:07 AM

I was thinking about Dobson's latest explanation of what he heard from the WH about Miers. He now claims that there were other candidates considered, but they declined the nomination because they weren't willing to go through the vicious confirmation process.

Beyond pure spin, this is utter crap. A couple of days ago, Dobson reassured his sheeple that Miers was okay because of something the WH told him that he wasn't at liberty to say. His latest explanation simply doesn't explain what it is he was told about Miers that he isn't at liberty to discuss.

Posted by ann at October 12, 2005 08:24 AM

Dobson's trying not to be called as a witness, it looks like to me, ann. Liberal Oasis showed this morning that he lied about what Rove told him about Miers being evangelical. And really, a Republican scared of the viciousness of the process? That tells me they've got something they don't want the general public to know about them.

Posted by iamcoyote at October 12, 2005 08:38 AM

The Democrats must take control of the House so that when Bush is hounded out of office and big time Dick's heart explodes, Majority Leader Pelosi can become President Pelosi

Posted by citizen Able at October 12, 2005 10:12 AM

citizen Able, you mean Speaker of the House Pelosi becomes President Pelosi (damn, that sounds good.)

I'll hand out appointments to my administration as soon as I sober up from a five year bender which will include Long Island Bloomberg Ice Tea. That mayor will ride a subway forever, like a flying Dutchmen. No pardons for any of the previous admins pervs. All go to an American version of Abu Grab-ass, the restored New Orleans Superdome, the skyboxes to hold all Neo-Cons. Cable TV will be no more. I will outlaw all TV and deport Oprah Winfrey to Denmark. I'm off to Miami to work out further details of my campaign. I'll be out for two weeks. On my return I expect a hefty contribution from Left Coasters, which incidentally, as your President, I will confer the Medal of Honor for honesty amid dishonesty; The Pulitzer Prize; the Nobel Prize; the Eyes on the Prize and the Prize is Right. I will always regard LC with misty, slightly crossed eyes--

Do you think Bush enjoys his nervous breakdown as much as I'm enjoying mine? Vote: Yes No

* Can you imagine what will happen to real estate in California, New York, and Mass. should the ability to write off your mortgage interest and property taxes goes away? I doubt this tax reform goes very far, but it'd basically destroy the CA economy.

* On a positive note, I've using the pullback in the stock market today to get more aggressive. I think the bull market still has a ways to go!

Posted by muckdog at October 12, 2005 12:24 PM

Sorry, Mal, you lost me at no tv. I need my soma!

Posted by iamcoyote at October 12, 2005 12:36 PM

Posted by idiosynchronic at October 12, 2005 01:24 PM

Don't worry, chronicidiot, we'll remind you about this one just like I've been reminding folks here about their call to sell dollars in jan 2005 was intellectually bankrupt. Remember that? Remember at the beginning of the year when the financial geniouses here were urging folks to sell dollars and put their money in other currencies?

How's that trade working out?

hahhahahhahahahahah

Posted by muckdog at October 12, 2005 01:36 PM

Jesus, Muck:

There is much more to life than acquiring and sniffing money in your little castle with the moat around it.

Do you actually spend your entire existence on this planet looking for tax loopholes, and teaching your children to worship money? As I’m not a Republican, I have not memorized the entire New Testament, but I’m fairly sure it frowns on that kind of behavior.

Posted by tempus at October 12, 2005 02:48 PM

tempus, mucky divides his time between scrounging for pennies and practicing smug looks in the mirror.

Posted by iamcoyote at October 12, 2005 03:06 PM

Do you actually spend your entire existence on this planet looking for tax loopholes, and teaching your children to worship money?

I spend less time at that, than you do pandering to Bush Conspiracy Theories.

Besides, what do you have against folks who take personal responsibility for their own financial situation? You think it's the government's job to take care of that? Or some union somewhere? Heck, better to learn about it and be proactive, than hoping your pension plan projections work out, eh? Just ask folks at some of the airlines or Delphi how those plans are working out.

I thought he spent his mirror time checking the areas that you can't normally see.

tempus, I was being discrete. But I did forget to add that he seems quite enamoured with Art Bell these days. I think he's checking up on his kin in the bigfoot picture gallery.

Posted by iamcoyote at October 12, 2005 03:31 PM

Besides, what do you have against folks who take personal responsibility for their own financial situation?

Muck: I have no problem with that. I just find licking dollar bills a disgusting habit.
