I would like to know who the 45 or whatever percent of people who think it's alright for the administration to lie the country into war are thinking. Are they really adults? With brains? They shouldn't be allowed to vote if they just want a Mama gov't. I hope all the kids who are refusing to become fodder for the meat grinder will get up off the couch to vote when they get the chance. And if they're not old enough to vote, I think it should be illegal for military recruiters to harrass them.

Oh I forgot about the College Republicans and their ilk. They are pro-war but refuse to sign up.... I was talking about normal young adults...

I believe they have convinced themselves that no one lied and that the reason we went to Iraq all along (not just after they found no WMDs) was to spread democracy. It's amazing what a charismatic leader can get his followers to swallow. I just can't understand how anyone who has watched Bush over the years can't see he's been lying about everything all along. This Wapo article discusses his body language which is pretty consistent with someone who is lying:

Bush's Body Language

Al Gore says he won't run in 2008.'

That's a shame. Who will challenge Hillary?

That's a damn good question. Especially if she sticks to being a DLC centerist.

New NBC poll shows only 28% of the public still think things are good here. That would make 72%, almost three-quarters of the country feeling like George Bush and the GOP are steering the USA into the Dump. Just keep this in mind when you sink to respond to trolls. Dismiss them as what they are, losers supporting losers who are ruining our country.

This is obvious troll baiting. Annie, you can’t keep pitching softballs over the plate like that.

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

Teddy Roosevelt wore women's underpants!

Ann, I think that not a lot of people have watched Bush's actual speeches, which I think is deliberate on Rove's part. I mean most of his speeches are held during the day, then the media uses the best looking clips for the nightly news. For prime time speeches, they over-produce, like the NO speech in front of the church. Very little room for Bush to make a mistake. So people don't really see an extended version of Bush tripping over words, ummming his way through tough questions, or actually getting hostile to the interviewer. He looks like an uninformed dolt. The first debate last year was a bit of a wake up call, though, which is why he was over-coached for the rest of them. The WaPo article may help articulate what we've been seeing all along, and get others to look for the "tells" that Bush gives in his demeanor on camera.

Photo-Oper in Chief,

Also From Ann's article.

The one newspaper reporter allowed to travel with Bush as part of the White House's "pool" system reported back to her colleagues after the "Today" event: "we were at a distance and could not hear what was being said (a theme of the day)." Other than the "Today" appearance, Bush delivered a one-minute talk to military recovery workers ("I'm incredibly proud of the job you have done") and a two-minute statement outside a school ("out of the rubble here on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi is a rebuilding").

Guess what 3 minutes with short clipped segments were highlighted by most of the editors in the media? State controlled media...we create all the news that's fit to print/show.

Lastly that Roosevelt comments is one of my favorites. I especially like this sentence. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

“It's amazing what a charismatic leader can get his followers to swallow.”

Thats a laugh.. wanna hear a funny story?... Okay.. Ill tell it to you anyways.

After the Prznit Shrub was placed on his thrown I was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia with the 3 ID ( Infantry Division) also known as The Marne Divison ( has to do with military history, dont worry about it). After his ascended the throne, he was visiting all sortsa bases and posting all along the eastern seaboard and made a stop by Fort Stewart.

Because of his visit, which was a pretty formal event, I got pulled off my tank to stand in line with a few hundred other "soldiers" ( remember that word its important) while a handfull of official types made some speeches it was the Prez's turn. He talked a lotta shit BUT at the very end he made a nice huge gaffe. * clears throat* As he was winding down his speech he made reference to the 3ID ( Marne Division) as the "Marine" Division. If it wasnt for the fact that every trooper out in parade formation had to surrender the bolts to our rifles he might have been shot.

First soldiers are not Marines. We think its funny that anybody would volunteer to be seamen, and think their hats are pretty stupid.

Second, Marines take the fact that they are Marines very seriously. It is a huge offense to call them "soldiers," I think it is because we didn't have to wear the funny hats at the time.

Either way, he made a pretty good impression with us soldiers and probably the Marines with his security detail by insulting us both.

Charismatic my hairy left ass cheek.

Keith Oberman in "Countdown" MSNBC did a great piece on 13 instances where there the government raised the terror alert as a means of "wagging the dog." Check out http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9665308/#051012a

Judith:
Will you please refresh my memory on Senator Obamas campain in our neighbor state of Illinois? I recall that he received the majority of votes in southern Illinois towns that have a history of unfriendly attitudes toward African Americans. I recall news clips on our local T.V. of Senator Obama shaking hands with white voters and telling them his true views, instead of trying to snow them with some conservative jive.
This is an attempt to match iamcoyotes views a day or so ago, which outlined a strategy to capture more southern votes. I agree with the coyote that you need to talk and explain your view to the southern voters. Am I correct in saying that Mr. Gore failed to carry his home state, which would have made him president, and we would have no memory of Florida. I do not understand how some at TLC can call southerners "uneducated white crackers" and then still expect us to vote for your candidate. You may call me that, as I are one. You may also call me a stupid redneck son-of -bitch, if it makes you fel better.

I recall that he received the majority of votes in southern Illinois towns that have a history of unfriendly attitudes toward African Americans.

Well they didn't have much of an appealing option since Obama's opponent was the bizarro candidate Alan Keyes.

Pure scuttlebutt from the mean streets of Austin, Texas:

The husband of friend of my wife's is a lawyer who has worked in the same office as Harriet Meiers. He claims Meiers is of the highest moral caliber--in a real-world sense, not a phony christian sense.

He is of the opinion that this is Laura Bush's nomination, that Meiers will uphold women's rights, and that she would make a good addition to the Supreme Court.

I admit I was suprised to hear this. Could be true, could be BS.

Pick it apart, shrug your shoulders, or flame away.

Old Man, Obama was running against Alan Keyes. Both African American, but oddly enough, one light skinned and one dark. Add to that that Keyes was merely a carpetbagger. I don't recall how the votes went, but historically in Illinois, the downstate leans more Republican and Chicago is more Democratic. Obama is a masterful politican and a very unique individual, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did capture a large majority downstate - partly as a reaction to him and partly a reaction to Keyes.

As for your point about Gore not carrying Tennessee, it was not because he ridiculed the people of Tennessee - that didn't happen. I believe that vote had more to do with God, guns and gays. And perhaps Republicans claiming that Gore was ridiculing them.

Sometimes you have the throw the trolls a bone. But I believe the answer to your query is answered by one Gap dress....I hear it's going in the Smithsonian or the Clinton Library - can't recall.

Like muck, I must have missed that, too. Some kind of media blackout, no doubt. You'd think that story would've gotten at least a little coverage. Damn liberals.

Thanks for the link to body language. My closest friend is a therapist and tells me that when people are lying they blink constantly.

The Today Show was painful. Bush was like a duck out of the water, and it was obvious that he would have rather been any place other than the Today Show. I suppose the whole charade was to make Bush look like a nice guy (hammering and all you know. After all he was working for all those poor victims he had a hand in creating. The whole episode was as phony as any set-up could have been.

Keyes vs Obama. Now who would you have voted for? By-the-way, I have never called a Southerner a "white cracker."

Actually, my education about the south has been very limited, partly due to the fact that I have had little interest. Reading TLC has educated me greatly about attitudes and values of the south. I suppose that the division between the south and the north are still with us even today.

Ted Koepel interviewed Studds Terkle tonight on Nightline. Ted asked Studds what he feared most in today's society and did he fear a terrorist attack. He responded that he did not fear an attack, but that his greatest fear was "the attack on our intelligence and the attack on our decency." Nuff said.
