Goebbels Would Call Them "Rookies"
"Anfänger" more likely.

Posted by snark at October 13, 2005 01:26 PMI saw part of the show this morning. If anyone thinks this wasn't scripted and choreographed, they are seriously dellusional. I can't believe anyone would even ask if it was scripted, it was so obvious.
Posted by ann at October 13, 2005 02:01 PMONE ARMY
ONE PEOPLE
ONE LEADER
All for one
And all for one
Let me hear it for me.
Posted by you're under arrest at October 13, 2005 02:36 PMWhy does our leader still sound like a 3 years old after all that rehearsal is beyond my comprehension.
Posted by at October 13, 2005 04:47 PMWell, anon, he's an inarticulate, English-mangling moron on the best of days. And methinks recent days don't qualify as the best of days for Dear Leader.
Posted by ran at October 13, 2005 04:57 PMHaving just read through Scottie's press briefing -- ack! won't do that again anytime soon -- it's painful reading-- I was reminded of how Scottie always refers questions to other departments -- this time DoD. Special English on VOA isn't as bad as w's little teleconference. And to blame it on the fact that it was a feed -- my god, we have all seen far more complex conversations fed in real time from all over the planet. In particular, Scottie's inability to identify the target audience I thought was especially telling. For something that maybe was written at a third grade level of comprehension -- what does that say about the writers'/producers' opinion of the audience?
The lot of them are fools -- always have been. It's pathetic.
Remind me that we are, in fact, living in the 21st century -- please . . .
Posted by dorita at October 13, 2005 05:02 PMIn a similar vein, that probably should be
Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Fuehrer!
except that only 2% of African-Americans approve of our crackhead president.
as I said while waiting for an LC thread on this, the main difference is that the Media pounced on this horrid display of Imbecile Politics immediately.....not all the Media mind you, but some. And that is a big change from pre-Katrina days. The Commander in Chief " uh, I can't come there 'cause I might get blown up, but glad to chat with you anyway". What a hoot. What a coward. What a fake. If there was ever any question of whether Karl the Genius is preoccupied with an impending prison trip, this was it. Karl might have been in a license plate making class?
Posted by T2 at October 13, 2005 05:35 PMon the Goebbels comment: How long did he/they have at the top? roughly from 1936-1944. Eight years. How long will George W. have - eight years. How long will the Bush clan have - twelve years as president and an additional eight as VP for Bush the elder. That's twenty years of Bush's in either the top or second position in the government. Rookies, Steve? I think they kick Goebbels butt.
Posted by T2 at October 13, 2005 06:25 PMI have got to give Bush a lot of credit--credit for being CONSISTENTLY INSULAR. And moderate Republicans wonder why he doesn't get it. Go Figure.
Everything in his life is staged. He is the most fictitious human being I have ever encountered in my life. Nothing about him his real. All staged.
Posted by Bad Ass at October 13, 2005 07:00 PMI'm still wondering who this staged broadcast was for. From reading the press briefing, it's still not clear. Was it broadcast live this morning -- meaning initially without comments? If so where? Maybe I'm making a doofus of myself, but I only caught the MSNBC edited version because of T2's comment on the other thread. That was what led me to the whitehouse. Where was the original broadcast to? Anyone know?

Posted by VKW at October 13, 2005 07:31 PMWhy the fuck did 60 million people, 60 million!, vote for this douche bag?
[walks away shaking head]
Posted by snark at October 13, 2005 07:42 PMMy favorite part was when the only women made the comment that she had been in New York when Bush was there right after 911 to give his speech. Bush got so excited he nearly peed in his pants, and interrupted her twice to ask her if she was there in NY (of course, she had just said she had been). Then he says "I thought you looked familiar." OH PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE.
Posted by Judith at October 13, 2005 07:59 PMMaster Sgt. Corine Lombardo is a military spokesperson. She is the one who had the perfect answer:
“Over the past 10 months, the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces are improving ... They continue to develop and grow into a sustainable force.”
At least 2 of the other "soldiers" really are soldiers and are not in public affairs.
Posted by at October 13, 2005 08:20 PMSteve, who was this telecast for? If it was for us, here in the US, then I am more disappointed than ever.
If it was for an Iraqui audience, I'll look to .Riverbend
Posted by dorita at October 13, 2005 09:03 PMAfter the disaster on the Today Show, you would think they would have waited at least another day. More on this at Inside the Bunker

Posted by Judith at October 13, 2005 09:55 PMIt was for Bush, of course.
Posted by cymack at October 14, 2005 04:14 AMSaw a rerun of it on CSPAN. The woman soldier was practically squinting to read her lines.

me too, Judith - but not for the toddler - esque excitement Bush showed -
I liked it for the utter unbelievably transparent Pravda effort to once again find some link between 9-11 and Iraq.
Posted by old crone at October 14, 2005 01:25 PM60 million didn't vote for this moron. The central tabulators are being manipulated to count 60 million votes. As long as the centalized vote tabulators are run using private source codes, you can bet that no matter now unpopular the cadidate, no matter how poorly he does in exit polling, not matter how bad his performance in debates, he will "surprisingly" win the election.
Democracy is dead in America...get use to it.
Posted by brisa at October 14, 2005 05:40 PMOld Crone, I agree.
Posted by Judith at October 15, 2005 04:38 AMTo Judith, CG and Old Crone,
Perhaps you folks need a dose of reality. First, MSG Lombardo worked at ground zero of the WTC for months. She slept on a aluminum and canvas cot in the Park Ave. armory, worked 20 hour days and had, among other duties, the decidedly unpleasant responsability of escorting media and others through the morgues. Yes she is a public affairs NCO for the NY National Guard. Yes, she is a career soldier. One who is a part of a team that keeps you all safe to make your erroneous comments about her. I can say categorically that her words were her own, not "scripted" or written for her. Nobody could ever TELL her what to say. She would simply step aside, rather than damage her credability.
It might interest you to know that she left behind a young daughter, a 22 yr. old son with a serious cardiac condition, and a permanently disabled husband to fulfill her commitment to YOUR government. She has more than 24 yrs. of service and could have retired rather than go to Iraq. She could have requested a "hardship" exception and it would have been approved without question. But she takes this war on terror personally, as evidenced by the deaths of so many people at the WTC. And she chose to go.
Please do not denigrate her Service by your clouded vision and hatred of president Bush. Her words are her own. Period. By the way, our son died this past August from his heart condition. Yes, I said OUR son because MSG Lombardo is my wife. She came home, we grieved, we buried our precious son and we discussed the future of our family. She had assurances from many sources that she need not return to Iraq because of our situation at home. After much deliberation, she decided that returning was her only option morally. She had started the job and would finish it. The Iraqis she has been training (others who know little of her have written that she is not involved in training the Iraqis. They are wrong.) since January were close to finishing their training and she felt duty bound to help them.
Also, to say that she is not a "real" soldier is a slap in the face to all who serve. If you have any knowlege of our Army, you know that EVERY soldier in trained in combat operations. She has endured rocket and mortar attacks, VBIED's when she was at the base gate and harrowing rides through the countryside to perform her job. (Again, others erroneously write that she stays "safe" on her base and does not travel around Iraq.)
Maybe you are all blinded by your hatred. Maybe you are hard hearted when it comes to our magnificent military. Or maybe you just don't realize that these soldiers are genuine people who love this country enough to make great sacrifices for our security. But I cannot let you get away with mean spirited attacks on a wife, mother and grandmother (our son left behind a beautiful little gift to the world) who is defending you regardless of your ignorance, with out comment.
In case you think this is not a genuine response, I left my email address. I will gladly debate any of you, but ask that you do not spam me with vitreol or accuse me of collusion with the government. I love my wife and miss her terribly. But, I'm just another citizen who is holding down the "home front" while my wife serves her country. We are all citizens of the same great country. We can have civilized debate.
Please, if you respond, keep it civil.
She's being passed off as some kind of typical soldier, Randy and she's not. She's a political operative, not a soldier. They picked her because she tows the administration line and not the truth.
Don't tell me "regular soldier" when she's got an agenda.
You're pissing on my leg and calling it rain.
Posted by Garuda at October 15, 2005 01:07 PMGaruda,
After what she's been through? You're going to call her a political operative? And "not a soldier"? Please, tell me how you know what training she went through. And what you know of her politics? She served for eight years with President Clinton. She served in our home state for years with governor Cuomo. There were many functions where she performed her duty impecably under those administrations. Why do you want to tie her to this administration? Do you doubt her sincerity? Please, how have you logically arived at these assumptions about my wife?
Randy
