The law will not give a damn about this spin from the right. These toadies from the Weekly Standard and National Review and the rest of their ilk will have no bearing on this grand jury investigation. Nor will our voices. And that's what really scares the bejeezus out of the right-wingers -- the law is a blunt instrument and it will not give a damn about their noise machine.
Posted by Brian Bell at October 15, 2005 12:36 PMThis shows just how scared to death these elitist people are that the sweet ride is about to come to a screeching halt. I have been scared for four years and ten months. How does it feel you traitors.
Posted by Judith at October 15, 2005 12:51 PMEriposte,
The real facts are:
• Wilson mislead the public by inferring the Vice President’s office sent him to Niger.
• Wilson lied about how his findings were interpreted by the CIA.
• Wilson lied (outright, no question) about Valerie having “no involvement” in his trip to Niger.
It makes no difference how many links you include to your own twisted rationalizations, the facts are crystal clear to all but the most committed partisans.
Joseph Wilson is a small, pathetic person who thought he could lie his way into a position of prominence by defaming the Bush administration in the middle of an election. His deception failed along with his co-conspirator’s candidacy.
Reality Based Community – my ass.
It's been a long time since I got to say "unindicted co-conspirator". If we're lucky we might get two Goopers this time insead of one.
Posted by Tim at October 15, 2005 01:19 PMPoor J.West...another Faux News/Rush Limbaugh dittohead who has lost the ability to read, think, and make decisions on his/her own. But then there's plenty of company out there for that misguided point of view...keep trolling!
Posted by Dancer at October 15, 2005 01:28 PMeriposte, Thanks for printing and responding to this because I know some certain true blind believers and people that often frequent this site and believe everything this Mr. Hayes writes is the gospel truth. They do this despite the substantial concerns with Stephen Hayes' credibility that have been documented and logged by others.

J. West, fuck-off you broken record.
Posted by at October 15, 2005 01:29 PM(Can't get that damn "link" thing, here's the long version: just one sample of west from a previous thread.
Maybe your comment has more to do with envy than truth, west. Even though you cannot master the simple typing involved in links, you've clearly figured out cut 'n paste, so let's see some support for your facts.

His deception failed ....Posted by j.west
Unfortunately for Rove's silly minions and Bush's myriad lickspittles, Wilson is truthful; Rove, Cheney, and Bush are proven liars.
Calvin thinks that Mr. Hayes was an advisor to the WHIG and the OSP. Obviously he learned to hone his cherry picking somewhere.
Subpeona, anyone?
Posted by calvinthecat at October 15, 2005 01:40 PMshorter west: Hussein purchased yellowcake from Niger, Owens-Kirkpatrick (and several others) who also investigated this claim and came to the opposite conclusion but didn't write op-eds debunking the WH claim are all liars too.
First, this is not a "news article" as much as a talking point template being offered to the spin machine and public at large. It makes no attempt at honesty much to the chagrin of eriposte.
Eriposte, these guys aren't reporters, they're single issue lobbyists acting as Team Bush PR operatives, because they currently have shared interest. It's in the Standard's interest to create enough noise to prevent the public from digging too deeply into the magazine's backers involvement in the Iraq war plan. These guys want to be around advocating their issue long after Team Bush is gone from the scene.
The fact that the Standard is already spinning, means that Karl/Libby and the Standard thinks that Fitzgerald is going to bring members of Team Bush down.
The hope here is to get the right-wing talking machine back into lock step, on this, so that public pressure can be exerted on Fitzgerald in an attempt to curtail the coming indictments as well as limit the ongoing effects of those indictments. This is very similar to Team Delay's attempt to frame his indictment as a partisan attack rather than a criminal matter. However this "article" is not so much a Team Bush co-ordinated operations as a cover your own ass rear guard action needed for the long term health of the Standard magazine.
Harball and Lauer, and the steamship MSNBC by proxy, have already signaled to the news world that they are going to be in much less troubled waters when the mess goes down. Many others in the news world are preparing for Watergate level events over the coming months. The Standard and other insiders are circling their own wagons in an attempt not to get swept in the coming flood.
As for the conlcusion of the "article".
The Senate Findings are a transparent bone to Bob Sommersby, so that war backers can use him as a voice of unsanctioned cover to subjugate the "Team Bush outed a CIA agent to lead the US to a phony war" narrative. Unfortuneatly there may also be DLC people who attempt to catch the Standard's public pass so that they can limit their own exposure.
Attention Bloggers:
Observe and expose the people who catch and expand the Standard's throw, and mark them as unsavable war backers who can never be trusted.
What we know, thanks to the Standard's admission by action. The Iraq war was the first US initiated war based largely on the plans of well connected lobbying interests. That these interests as a consequence of backing Team Bush were permitted to place their operatives in key positions within the adminsitration to see through the execution of their agenda. These operatives ruthlessly co-opted their offices to advance their agenda often with direct backing of the Vice-President and the President, at the expense of legions of long term civil servants who were intimidated and dismissed from office. Clearly the full picture leads even the most casual observer to see Team Bush as knowingly operting in the realms of high crimes and treason.
That the Standard is back spinning for Team Bush means that Fitzgerald now has access to evidence that legally implicates key portions of this infrastructure. How much blood letting will occur as a consequence is largely up to the public and will coorespong to how the blogging communtiy at large frames and coveys the issues, since it is no longer possible for the papers of records and television news casts to frame the message, as demonstrated by the near global reaction to Harriet Miers and Richard Cohen.
Posted by patience at October 15, 2005 02:09 PMWell, the last time that there was a group in America that called itself the WHIGS things didn't turn out too good for them either. Yeah, they won an election or two but where are they today.
No doubt in 30 or 40 years there will be revisionist historians, probabally funded by the 2050's equibilent of right wing think tanks, that will write things similar to what we see daily from the trolls. Let us strive to record the truth so that future generations might not have to deal with the kind of dishonesty and imcompetence in high places that we've been afflicted with scince 2001.
