Let's not forget that the Times and Judy do not tell us the story about the notes "being found". That is such a bullshit story that we should have the truth behind it. We are not getting it. Atrios also rightly points out how fucking evil and unethical it was for Judy to agree to refer to Scooter as a "former hill staffer" to disguise not just his identity, but even a vague notion of who was trying to smear Joe Wilson.
Posted by trifecta at October 15, 2005 07:35 PMSulzberger was/is not stupid nor incompetent. NYT was paid off by the WH. Period. Miller was the go-between sales lady between the WH and NYT. Mission acomplished. Don't expect NYT and their editors to come clean becaue it will never happen.
Posted by john at October 15, 2005 07:36 PMYou're a very forgiving soul to only have Judy at two strikes. She looks a lot more like the Rob Deer of journalism as far as I can tell. Strikeouts galore, and no credibility to speak of.
Posted by Shalimar at October 15, 2005 07:52 PMShalimar...looks like you haven't read the whole article...
Posted by eriposte at October 15, 2005 07:58 PManother thing I forgot to mention is that Miller was granted security clearance by the WH. Think about that. A reporter was granted security clearance by our government. Miller must have been recruited by the bush administration and thus became an agent for our government. She is one of them.
So she had some special "clearance" for reporters, huh? Guess that makes her the female Guckert/Gannon.
Posted by Sharon at October 15, 2005 08:33 PMMiller must have been recruited by the bush administration and thus became an agent for our government. She is one of them.
The same can be said of the NY Times itself -- which has been an agent of the BushCo cabal, in and out of government, for at least the past 20 years.
The NY Times lead the charge in discrediting Gary Webb, for the crime of reporting the truth about the CIA and contra cocaine -- which inconveniently led back to the office of then VP "Poppy" Bush.
The NY Times was at the front of the pack, reported false information about the Clintons and Whitewater -- in service of the BushCo regime in exile? Jeff Gerth carried on the same slanderous journalism against Wen Ho Lee; the BushCo connection there is less uncertain, but the taint at the NYT is not.
It's this kind of collusion between a once proud media and the axis of political evil that installed Dubya in the White House, and got us into Iraq.
Pinch and Judy should be embedded with our troops -- as drivers on unarmored trucks, in the most dangerous parts of Iraq. It would be a just reward, for their complicity in this disaster.

Posted by roswell at October 15, 2005 08:58 PMIn today's Times two hard-to-follow screeds about/by Judy, et.al., and then an easy-to-read no-bullshit op-ed by Frank Rich, who by the way provides the Times' very first mention of White House Iraq Group, WHIG. Let's see what Byron Calame comes up with next time he gets a chance...

So...is there a difference between "misleading" the grand jury and lying to the grand jury?
Miss Laura
Posted by Miss Laura at October 16, 2005 01:05 AMWhy isn't the NYT being held accountable for allowing and backing Judith Miller's so-called reporting.? During Watergate, Ben Bradlee and Katharine Graham demanded facts and more than one source before Woodward and Berstein could write anything. This was done to verify a story was correct and to not jeopadize the Washington Post in case of future liability. The choice of material to go into a newspaper and the decisions made as to the content of the paper constitutes the exercise of editorial control and judgment, and with this editorial control comes increased liability. If that be true, then why isn't the NYT being held liable for Judith Miller's reporting?
Posted by Judith at October 16, 2005 01:28 AMMy question to the self-proclaimed "champion of truth" (and to the rest of the neocons and their flying monkey "journalists"):
Do you honestly think that the people on the grand jury believe your testimony?
Posted by Delilah Boyd at October 16, 2005 08:37 AMYou know...the last paragraphs of her "article" really strikes me as odd and raises a couple of questions...
"In answer, I told the grand jury about my last encounter with Mr. Libby. It came in August 2003, shortly after I attended a conference on national security issues held in Aspen, Colo. After the conference, I traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyo. At a rodeo one afternoon, a man in jeans, a cowboy hat and sunglasses approached me. He asked me how the Aspen conference had gone. I had no idea who he was.
"Judy," he said. "It's Scooter Libby."
First, she couldn't recognize Libby? He has a very unusual, albeit scary, look, being weirdly pale and all and is a very striking character. She'd met with him numerous times and couldn't tell who he was with just sunglasses and a cowboy hat? Some investigative reporter.
What was she doing at a rodeo? What is it with rodeo's? Didn't the person who gave CBS the information on Bush's "military service" given that information by an unknown source at a rodeo in Houston?
What was she doing in Jackson Hole? It would explain why Libby was there, CHENEY LIVES THERE...but what was SHE doing there?
Posted by jillian at October 16, 2005 08:48 AMI think we can continue to hope, and with some reason, that the “big media player” who spoke with Arianna was right in saying, “Mark my words, this will end with Sulzberger’s resignation.”
If reports are correct, Judy and the Times have already parted ways, and are just waiting for some time to pass to announce it.
As Jay Rosen says, the Post is “our great national newspaper now”.
Posted by Chuck Dupree (Belisarius) at October 16, 2005 11:03 AMRegarding the NYT as hod-carrier for the White House, please take a close look at the latest "report" on Syria in yesterday's edition, written by James Risen & David E. Sanger, titled "G.I.'s and Syrians in Tense Clashes on Iraqi Border."
We are being prepped for escalation.
Posted by Arcturus at October 16, 2005 02:05 PMWe are being prepped for escalation.
Then cut off their fucking money for war.
Posted by at October 16, 2005 02:21 PMMy guess - Scooter and Judy were having an affair.
