BURN THE WITCH! She, and the wickedly supine New York Times, are obviously in league with the Forces of Evil, the vicious Oil Oligarchy.
Posted by Hysterial Lefty Larry at October 17, 2005 09:04 AMThis whole thing is such a morass. Your post is an interesting and very helpful way of organizing things. Thank you!
Posted by Psyche at October 17, 2005 09:19 AMExcept for a very few in the media, a rare Dem officeholder and bloggers there is not a great outcry of indignation, disgust or shock about this affair. The public is mostly silent. What I find most interesting about all this is trying to picture a mirror image of it all. Were this a Dem administration all of the Republicans in Congress, to a person, would be loudly clamoring for impeachment, jail and firing squads. "Frenzy" would not come close to describing media treatment. Night shift janitorial crews in television studios across the nation would work overtime just cleaning up the spittle from evening gabfests.
Posted by steve duncan at October 17, 2005 09:35 AMThe war, bu$hco, corporate greed, the treason, the repukes, the lack of strong Dems...this once great nation!!! Fuck, when will it end, it's like some nightmare we're all stuck in!!
The information is helpful albeit tired.
I'll just wait for the indictments or lack there of.
Miller is still waiting for her novel out of this and to go on the talk show circuit. Ad nauseam...
I think Miller's recent testimony ends any chances of an indictment that Plame's name was leaked. If anything comes, it will be for what happened after, and any lawyer worth his salt with tell you that that kind of case has to be airtight before a prosecutor will indict.
It's over. Rove and Libby walk.

Posted by at October 17, 2005 10:38 AMAnd remember...she's getting a First Amendment award!
New York Times reporter Judith Miller, who was jailed 85 days for refusing to reveal the source who disclosed the identity of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame, will speak to participants of the 2005 SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference at 8:15 a.m., Oct. 18. in Las Vegas.
Miller, who also will receive a First Amendment Award, will then join a panel discussion titled “The Reporter’s Privilege Under Siege.” Joining Miller on the panel is Associated Press reporter Josef Hebert, Patricia Hurtado of Newsday, and Bruce Sanford of Baker and Hostetler law firm.
I think we should call or email these folks and just ask...WHY are they rewarding a lying traitor?

My only question about Friedman, whom I used to actually respect: when did he get his "security clearance"?
Posted by at October 17, 2005 11:30 AMRobert, inquiring minds want to know: what is your logic in arguing that miller's testimony (whose content you don't even know) "ends any chance of an indictment that Plame's name was leaked."
Really - we are on the edge of our seats to see the logic.
I mean, i saw the moronic cliff kincaid "miller exonerates libby" article this morning, which made no sense whatsoever. Is that your argument, or do you have something better?
Posted by howard at October 17, 2005 03:10 PMThis was a one two punch type of trick. The NYT was standing by Judith Miller with Abrams. She says it is the First Amendement, then since it was not the First Amendement, back into the corner, not to lost face, but let the NYT out f the hook, as conspirators to withold information. By given the notes to Fitz, they both get out of it. That was the deal. Now the NYT is not going to be in contempt or name in a conspiracy to obstruct justice.

While the paper's leaders were rallying around Ms. Miller she happens to “bumped into Robert S. Bennett, the prominent Washington criminal lawyer who represented President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal and is known for his blunt style and deal-making skills.”
. “I don’t want to represent a principle,” Robert Bennett told her. “I want to represent Judy Miller.” And that it is what he did. That is what she needed. The Times was the one left holding the principles.
I went to jail instead, to protect my source - Mr. Libby - because he had not communicated to me his personal and voluntary permission to speak." Notice the clever change from institutional target to personal issue. Clever no? So, that first Amendment lawyers could collect millions of dollars in fees. Right?
I feel sorry for many American journalists working abroad that are going to be suspect of being undercover operatives, courtesy of Miller/NYT.
Now think for a freaking minute in Daniel Pearl.
