Oh my, an article from a 3rd-party blogger stating the Republicans are dead. OK please read the label before you drink the KoolAid. This guy IS NOT a Republican so how can he speak for the Republican Party? Bush just picked up a Million dollars in CA, does that sound like we are imploding? Also folks, I hate to let you down but many disenfranchised Republicans would rather live in a gated Gay community in SF than vote Democrat. Honey, happy hour isn't even here yet.
The internal contradictions of the Republican coalition are tearing it apart. A vaccum is happening now as people who take moral values seriously face the fact that the current government is only interested in enriching the well connected. When you see working families harmed by government policies it makes the call for moral protection from the same government ring hollow.
As a southerner above the age of 40, I can remember when the same thing happened to the state Democratic parties during the late 70's-early 80's period. For a while pragmatic progressive governors like Jim Hunt in NC and Dick Riley in SC were able to patch up the biracial coalition through common economic interest but the dead hand of the past plus the popularity of Reagan at the time were too much to overcome long term. Nevertheless, around here there hasw already been some success at rebuilding the Democratic base. In South Carolina in 2004 the Democrats gained state legislative seats although the GOP retained control of both houses. In North Carolina where a greater level of urbanization and some other factors are more favorable, the Democrats are in total control of the state for the first time scince the 80's.
Nature abhors a vaccum and if the Democrats will work on building state by state coalitions then we can get America out of this nightmare, do what's right for our people and nation and drink liberally of true prosperity again.
