It will be interesting to see if the MSM bother to check the new site out, and more importantly, report on it.
Posted by tempus at October 21, 2005 12:26 PMalthough i've tried to avoid too much speculation, i've been guessing for quite some time that conspiracy was the likeliest charge....

Posted by thunderhawk at October 21, 2005 01:27 PMHmmm, interesting development about the website. Especially why develop it, if there was no "there" there?
If the charges are going to be one dealing with conspiracy, then the website makes perfect sense. Especially, if Fitzgerald is indicting as a part of the conspiracy or as a part of the coverup in anyway, the media itself(ahem I'm talking about the JFM's,Novaks, Corporate owners & editors, & Armstrong Williams' of the world). Of course he would need to get accurate information out to the masses especially if any in the media were to be a part of his case. This would makes sense even if it involves just many media reporters(not in the indictments) but solely just as witnesses. I am talking about the conflict of interest and bias in reporting (or refusing to report)on your own reporters. I mean look at how hamstrung the media elite became (Miller-NYT,Russert,Cooper,Matthews with Hardball,CNN with Novak) in dealing with reporting on this issue in just the investigation phase over the past several years.
Again pure speculation and wishful thinking. However, I really am of the I'll believe it when I see it world. Here's to wishful thinking!
Posted by emal at October 21, 2005 01:41 PMAnd if you agree that the Iraq War was one of the biggest blunders committed by any administration, it might be considered a major national security betrayal because we are at significantly more risk than before - a military totally consumed with an illegal war, less real allies, lots and lots more terrorists and a lot more people who would like to see the bullies in Washington brought down a notch. I can see how the CIA could consider this a betrayal. Or a dereliction of duty on part of the white house and their willing collaborators in the congress and the media.
Posted by Mary at October 21, 2005 01:41 PMGee you've discovered the DOJ server! I hear that that there is a DOD, CIA, DIA, NSA, and FBI server as well. They all must be blogging out teh 'truth' about Bush and his cohorts. Just when I thought you were not entertaining you prove me worng. Thank you and have a good weekend.
Posted by Cyber Sarge at October 21, 2005 01:48 PMThere have been more than three indictments in the AIPAC/Franklin cases. Franklin copped a plea-bargain on Oct 5 & pled guilty to three counts, agreeing to testify against the "ex-" AIPAC officials Rosen and Weissman (AIPAC is paying their legal bills). That case goes to trial Jan 2, 2006, but may be in trouble. Despite agreeing to cooperate, Franklin is loudly proclaiming that he did nothing wrong. The gov't has so far refused to turn over wiretaps to the defense, & the judge is threatening that the case may need to be dismissed. I really hope this case proceeds & doesn't go the way of Stephen Bryen's (Richard Perle's old buddy) case a quarter century ago. Bryen not only saw his espionage case thrown out (again involving AIPAC & Israeli embassy officials)but later was granted a top secret security clearance.
Posted by Arcturus at October 21, 2005 01:58 PMSarge, the APs were just here looking for you. They said you were AWOL from your posting to Ramadhi.
Posted by pessimist at October 21, 2005 01:59 PMsarge, nice to know that your loyalty lies with the terrorists. I wonder, are you working for them right now?
Posted by iamcoyote at October 21, 2005 02:01 PMFer the love of God SArge, we weren't born yesterday and here's the Froomkin WaPo link with more on it. It's a new site. Plus, the track record of the proprietor's comments here being true is significantly higher than your facts....but you knew that already and as usual were too lazy to double check and find out about it instead of just making a(nother) comment proving your ignorance again. Here's some pepper for that egg.
Posted by emal at October 21, 2005 02:05 PMArcturus, I've read that, and it is quite disturbing. Franklin, Rosen and Weissman, as well as several gov't officials are caught red-handed spying, and our gov't won't allow them to be prosecuted. Unbelievable. But then, if a person like sarge here can spend 20 years in the USAF and conclude that treason is okay as long as it's repubs doing the dirty work, well, I guess anything is possible.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 21, 2005 02:08 PM
i am pleased to hear that Patrick Fitzgerald may be looking into the possibliity of some presidential staff leeking classified info other than those related to the plame affair..
one possible example comes readily to mind:
did the Washington Post's Robert Woodward receive access to or copies of classified documents while writitng his "Bush at War" book??
Posted by orionATL at October 21, 2005 02:18 PMScuse me but that link takes me to teh DOJ server and Fitz'z official site.
Posted by Cyber Sarge at October 21, 2005 03:07 PMThat's it, sarge is totally drunk. I guess if my heroes were found to be traitors, I'd be drunk all the time, too.
Posted by iamcoyote at October 21, 2005 03:28 PMSarge, once again read really slowly the key bolded words which are very important as to the significance of this website. Patrick Fitzgerald, Office of Special Counsel.
How many other special counsels, whose term is set to expire Oct. 28th, 2005 after 2 years, start a website the week before it is set expire? Yes, why would one do that if one intended to shut down the investigation and not bring forth charges or ask for and extension? And, why would one do that if one has just stated it didn't plan on issueing a report of its findings if charges weren't brought forth in the case?
Don't get me wrong, I am not getting my hopes up, but the timing is certainly interesting.
Chris Mathews's gaggle on Hardball speculate that the Niger document forgeries and other lies told in the war lead up are getting attention from the Fitzgerald team, especially as it relates to lying to Congress which is a separate offense when done in reports submitted under Congressional acts - like the SOTU.
The whole WMD lie thing may be unfolding, and the conspiracy broaded to include more than just the Plame leak.
Posted by at October 21, 2005 06:33 PMI was the commenter on the post above without a name. Sorry!
Posted by JimPortandOR at October 21, 2005 06:34 PMBest of luck to Fitzgerald, his Grand Juries and all of us.
We need to stop the war on Syria now and the war on the citizens of New Orleans, some still in FEMA concentration camps, the war on America and the war on the world by the insane PNACers, Bonesmen and Bilderbergers who have taken over the Executive branch, most of Congress and the media but there are still some honest people in the Judiciary.
Keep visiting Fitzgerald's site to show you support bringing down this never elected Bush Regime.
Posted by Elena at October 21, 2005 10:05 PMQuick note on terminology - web site - theleftcoaster.com or USDOJ.gov...
Web Page(s) -theleftcoaster.com/archives/005796.php/
or
www.usdoj.gov/usao/iln/osc/index.html
not that it makes a difference, and not that I care what it's called.
As for 'when'... well the pages actually didn't go up today, they went up a few days ago... around the time that charges (if any) were to be announced. The fact that no charges have been announced after the date these pages were posted to display any charges should be of interest...
The only document on the OSC's pages of any interest is the one data August 12th 2005...
Posted by OutsideTheEchoChamber at October 21, 2005 10:41 PMNot that it makes a difference and not that anyone cares, but it is routine to have web sites nested within larger web sites. In the example you cited, the word "index" should give you a clue. Just look at any university's web site and you will see that different departments have discrete sites within the main university site.
But you knew that, right OTEC?
