Orrin Hatch, like John Ashcroft, IS a conflict of interest.
Posted by pessimist at September 30, 2003 12:53 AMI am amazed at the fact that Scott McClellan can continue to declare the Bush WH has the highest standards and is totally honorable. It gives new meaning to the phrase "dignity and honor to the White House". Sort of like parsing what the meaning of "is" is.....
Posted by Mary at September 30, 2003 06:50 AMA foolish inconsistency is the hobgoblin of Republican minds.
Posted by Matt Davis at September 30, 2003 08:51 AMRemember, further, that the "professional staff" in the DOJ that Scott McClellan wanted to rely on yesterday as dispassionate investigators are the very civil servants that Bush and his Congressional cronies did away with in the Department of Homeland Security, are trying to do away with in the Department of Defense, and if they have their way, will totally abolish in the federal government. I find it an ironic fig leaf that they are now running to the very civil servants they want to do away with.

Posted by charles at September 30, 2003 09:11 AMI wonder if the Democrats in Congress and the presidential candidates will have the guts to throw these statements back in the Republican's faces?
Posted by Laz at September 30, 2003 11:05 AMBut you don't understand, Left Coaster! They were talking about DEMOCRATS! That's objectively different!
Posted by Sharoney at September 30, 2003 02:19 PMThis whole this is NO FAIR!!! Expecting republicans to play by the rules the apply to Democrats... How could you even SUGGEST such a thing?
And they call us whiney...
Posted by Jesse in SD at September 30, 2003 03:22 PMUnfortunately the Democrats don't have anyone with the courage to point out the GOP hypocrisy or strongly call for and independent investigator.
Hell, they haven't called out for an independent investigation of 911, despite the obvious complicity of the Bush administration in a terrible event that eclipsed Pearl Harbor.
