Mary gets the credit. I'm just a cut-and-paste artist (says Toby).
Posted by pessimist at October 22, 2005 10:00 AMpessimist, Having lived in Co. Springs for 14 years, until 2 years ago, I read that Republican rag, "The Gazette" every day. This beautiful area is entrenched in conservatism!
I watched "Focus on the Family" build it's headquarters there on my way to work everyday. James Dobson is a regular contributer to the paper, in more ways than journalistic. I watched as one by one, some of the funniest and serious liberal writers had to leave due to outside pressure. It's headquarters to Northern Command, Peterson AFB, Schreiver AFB, the Air Force Academy, and Fort Carson Army Base. Not to mention all the Defense Contractors that have offices there. Duncan Bremer (former Councilman), brother of Paul Bremer (Iraq fame), lives just north in Monument. It has a solid 65% conservative base, (down from 70%, 5 years ago). Most Republicans run unopposed. Developers ran that town uncontested during it's rapid growth period of he last 10 years. It's the home of the Banning-Lewis Ranch real estate scandal from the 80's involving Frank Ayers, and the failed, or successful, depending on which way you look at it, Silverado Savings and Loan, (Neil Bush).
One liberal niche they can't take away is Manitou Springs.
I should clarify, Siverado Savings and Loan was headquartered in Denver, but supplied the loan to Frank Ayers who skipped town.
Posted by bbtb at October 22, 2005 10:39 AMIn my reflections did you notice how bu$h's and Dobson's name came up! This has Carlyle and the Christian Reich written all over it!!
Propaganda or plagiarism? Both!!
pessimist, this made my head spin thinking about the implications and ramifications!! Fucking scary!!
