Comments: Treasongate: Uranium from Africa and the Robb-Silberman report

eriposte, thanks once again. Did you by any chance get to see Larry King last nite. Bob Woodward, Isikoff, and 2 Senators were on the panel discussing Miers and CIA leak (pending indictment-s)? Woodward was the one that had the rightwing talking points down to a science on the whole Niger Wilson issue. At one point he said the Senate Intelligence Report (which he jokingly said he carries in his pocket) even confirmed the fact that Wilson's report back on the Niger claim was ambiguous and even supported the claim that Iraq persued uranium. Everytime I heard him make statements about the issue all I could think of was your reporting. Perhaps if you haven't seen it already get the transcript read it and send him all your research and refutations.

Well anyway thanks for all your help. Oh an btw I guess Woodward is writing another book about Junior's 2nd term. Perhaps that is why he had the RNC talking points down verbatim. Guess he wouldn't want to piss them off and lose his precious "access" in the middle of writing his book now would he.

Number 3...Wilson testified to both the House and Senate about his trip to Niger (closed hearings) around the same time.

eriposte,

I keep thinking that the speculative bubble around the significance of the Plame name will be broken any moment. I thought for certain that it would be broken today. But it wasn't.

So, the fun, speculative, jeapordy Answer/Question for us continues to be:

Answer: Plame (hmmm, or "Flame")

Question: What is the name that appears in every analysis of Fitzgerald's press conference, including emptywheel's) but which Fitzgerald never utters?

Is this a 4th instance of the Plame name per se being significant in some way? Significant because of its absence?

Transcript of Fitzgerald's press conference here. Notice that Fitzgerald never uses the Plame name. Questioners use it but he never uses it.

Analysis of at least 3 other ways that the Plame name is significant is here.

Emal, Bob Woodward has long since become a disgrace to the journalism profession.

AspTrader, I saw your post earlier. It is interesting. Let's see if the real reporters at the Times and the WaPo can dig out more on this sordid saga.

Good analysis. It's impossible to read these reports (9/11 Commission, SSCI, and Robb-Silberman) without seeing that CIA is the bumbler. All are clear that CIA initially accepted the phony docs and passed them on without proper vetting, then allowed Plame to push Wilson into the investigator's role, then allowed him to opine falsley on his "findings".

Note that the Robb-Silberman repeats the former Nigerian PM's assertion that Iraqis were indeed attempting to buy yellowcake, as Wilson reported to CIA and now conveniently forgets. No one has disputed this claim, and even the Kerry campaign was sharp enough to know Wilson was a clown.
