The Pessimist says, "Fitzgerald's indictments loom on the horizon. . ."

I mistrust Democrats who applaud a Republican for being 'neutral,' as they have with Fitzgerald. If it is true, that Fitzgerald is an honest special prosecutor, then we will see an indictment come out for nepotism within the CIA, an indictment of whoever in the CIA who claimed that Plame was still 'covert,' and an indictment for Wilson's lying about Cheney being the one who called for the Niger 'study.'

The 'rumor' (read: the special prosecutor leaks like a puppy) is that there will be no indictments for the 'covert' crime that has kept this witch hunt going for two years, and none against Rove. The same rumor mill is saying that Liddy will be indicted, though. . .

That will surely diminish your own schadenfreude, now won't it. . .?

If the corruptin in the CIA isn't addressed, then everyone will know that Fitzgerald is anything BUT 'neutral' and is either a snake-in-the-grass or bought off. . .

I'll take the latter. . .

Posted by tadowe at October 28, 2005 03:28 AM

tadowe, you are correct.

Here's something else to think about: If there are indictments then Joe Wilson will surely be called as a witness. Which means he'll be open to grilling by the defense. At which point he will be exposed as the fraud that he is.

While the far left and the MSM doesn't see this yet, I think Wilson is beginning too. He's gone from wanting to see 'Rove frog marched into jail' last year to 'this will be a sad day for Amercia if indictments are handed down' yesterday.

As usual the left is opening the door into their nose again.

Posted by The Real Truth at October 28, 2005 03:55 AM

Of course it will be a sad day for America. We've had treasonous bastards running around with high level security clearances for years now!

Posted by Ga6thDem at October 28, 2005 04:08 AM

are you fruitcakes for real...there were no wmd...it was a lie and thats what this is all about..not partisan politics..you fucking kooks wouldn't know the truth if it hit you in the head..

Posted by dennis at October 28, 2005 04:16 AM

Jeezaus - the wingnuts are off and spinning early this morning.

"You smell that? Do you smell that? Fear, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of fear in the morning. You know, one time we had administration indicted, for three years. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' rightwinger body. The smell, you know that fear smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end..."

Posted by idiosynchronic at October 28, 2005 04:23 AM

the question really is..why was scooter lying..what was he trying to cover up...what did that fucking rat cheney know and when did he know it?...forged documents presented to the american people as proof to go to war...

Posted by dennis at October 28, 2005 04:47 AM

dennis nails it, if these bozo's didn't do anything wrong, then why were they lying and covering up?

Posted by at October 28, 2005 04:57 AM

Fitzgerald isn't a Republican, he's non-affiliated or non-denominational or however you put it.

The wingnuts sure love that Senate Addendum that 5 of the 8 Repubs refused to sign.

Posted by jlb at October 28, 2005 05:02 AM

Fear, smells more like terrified.

Posted by Judith at October 28, 2005 05:15 AM

Ann Coulter said this is the absolutely worst outcome the WH could get-Libby indicted and Rove under a continued cloud of indictment. She said that the WH would be better off if all the indictments were handed down today.

It looks like it might be dribble, dribble, dribble for quite a few years.

Posted by Ga6thDem at October 28, 2005 05:17 AM

Ga6thDem, gee, I hope so.

Posted by Judith at October 28, 2005 05:24 AM

Not the first to say this but:

Death of A Thousand Cuts

Posted by jlb at October 28, 2005 05:26 AM

Word is Rove may not get indicted. I said a while back on another board (Kos) that I bet that fat f - - - has cut a deal and turned on Libby. If Rove isn't charged, I bet that's exactly what's happening.

Posted by Brian Bell at October 28, 2005 05:45 AM

maybe scooter can hire harriet miers..i hear she is available...

Posted by dennis at October 28, 2005 06:01 AM

tadowe and "Real" Truth deserved to be drowned in pigshit with the rest of the traitors.

Posted by TreasonBGone at October 28, 2005 06:03 AM

Brian,
That's exactly the new rumor-Karl Rove has turned and is copping a plea. I guess the PR machine he has hired is trying to explain why a guy who pled guilty to a felony is still at the WH.

Posted by Ga6thDem at October 28, 2005 06:03 AM

Miers may be available, but her heart only belongs to George!

Posted by idiosynchronic at October 28, 2005 06:04 AM

Good morning liberals.

After catching up with the previous day’s thread, I must say I’m shocked at some of the comments aimed at your humble contributor. True conservatives such as me are far too honorable to post under different names (other than obvious parodies for comedic value) or to go back on a bet.

---------------------------------------------

A good point was brought up on Hardball last night concerning the fact that no White House employee has been indicted for over 100 years. It seems that if there was a true chance of exposure, the employee in question would surely resign prior to the indictment. Just one more piece of the puzzle that doesn’t fit the commonly held scenarios.

Watch for Joe and Val to go down today.

Posted by j.west at October 28, 2005 06:08 AM

mr.west...you really ought to adjust your medication..

Posted by dennis at October 28, 2005 06:13 AM

What's this country coming to? A Repubkkican operative can't out CIA agents without someone investigating! Nex thing you know, they'll want verifiable elections!

Posted by disgusted at October 28, 2005 06:16 AM

Sounds like Libby will be indicted on giving false statements and that's about it. This sucks. Someone leaked the name.

Posted by CG at October 28, 2005 06:18 AM

scooter to be indicted..rove to remain under investigation...helluva campaign strategy for 06...impeachment in the wings..for deceiving the american people into war

Posted by dennis at October 28, 2005 06:21 AM

Wow! I was right about the diminished schadenfreude -- you all sound so disappointed that it won't be the end of Rove, Cheney and anyone else than Libbey (who even if indicted will not be convicted.)

Indeed, if the roles were reversed, all of you would be screaming about nepotism in the CIA, how they lied to cover-up that 'she' wasn't covert and why 'he' should be pilloried for trying to involve poor Algor. . .

What a sad bunch of creepy hypocrites you mob(sters) just happen to be. . .!

Posted by tadowe at October 28, 2005 06:30 AM

Rightwingers,

The uranium cake story was bogus.

Even the White House had to admit that it had "mistakenly" found its way in the State of the Union's address. Google it up. It is out there for all to see.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Wilson to be "exposed". It is quite another kind of exposure that you are going to have to confront: the public confirmation that there are vicious operatives in the White House who would do anything to pursue their demented agenda.

tadowe

head of procurement for omb indicted

house majority leader indicted

senate leader under investgation by sec

no wmd in iraq..but what we do have are forged documents that took us there

how much more leadership can the country stand

you ought to adjust your medication as well..you kook

Posted by dennis at October 28, 2005 06:46 AM

If Rove isn't indicted today (but remains under investigation)it reveals alot about him. Rove's a tyical coward and must have sung like a canary tossing Libby overboard in an attempt to save his sorry fat arse. Something tells me, he would sell his own mother or kid down the river to save himself...what a pathetically sick individual.

Posted by at October 28, 2005 06:49 AM

Hey j.west. Your post above seems like so much crap now, doesn't it? You didn't really think the bunch of crooks under Cheney's control would take the honorable way out and resign did you? If you are reprensentative of the gullible right in this country, no wonder it teeters on the verge of ruin.

Posted by Hank at October 28, 2005 06:57 AM

the longer Fitz can keep these crooks and liars on the front page, the better. What todays indictments will indicate is just how far and how thourough Fitz is prepared to be in pursuing the whole snakepit full of GOPer crooks. Maybe he'll tell us a clue in his press conference. Meanwhile, Bush is on TV spewing all the same old 9/11/Al Queda/Iraq/Muslim Hate baloney he's yapped about for years. Its as if the boy can only talk of that and that alone.

Posted by T2 at October 28, 2005 07:23 AM

I figured it'd be a B or C player or two. Looks like Scooter, no Rove. (Kind of like indicting the 3rd string linebacker for Nebraska.)

Moving on, in more important news, the GDP came in at 3.8% today. I think that kind of shocked those who thought the economy was slowing down. Market seems to like it.

Posted by muckdog at October 28, 2005 07:33 AM

(Kind of like indicting the 3rd string linebacker for Nebraska.)

Come on muck!

The Chief of Staff to the Vice President of the United States, arguably the most powerful and influential VP to ever hold the office, indicted on perjury and/or obstruction charges is equivilant to indicting a third string college football player?

I know you don't believe that. Why is it so hard to admit that these guys fucked up and were grossly negligent with the national interest when it came to protecting their own agenda? Why can't you just admit that?

Posted by snark at October 28, 2005 07:40 AM

j. west enjoy your last hours here!!!

Posted by goose1 at October 28, 2005 07:55 AM

It takes integrity and character to admit to one's mistakes. The Bush supporters have neither one of the above.

Posted by Evil Progressive at October 28, 2005 07:56 AM

Don't worry. All we need is one indictment and the trial will be a spectacle. Things will really start to come out if there's a trial. The best possible thing that could have happened for our side is an indictment or two now, followed by a new grand jury to follow the Italian forgery leads. A few more months of investigating and he'll be able to hand down more indictments. By that time, Libby's trial will have started, depending on delays, and the midterm elections will be heating up. Think about it, the midterm elections are going to occur while all this stuff is on the front page.

I say, let this drag on. Let him convene a new GJ and follow the yellowcake leads whereever they go. Come Nov 2006, we'll have a legit chance to take back one of the houses. And if we take back one of the houses, then we can convene hearings on the whole affair, effectively crippling the last two years of Herr Bush's presidency.

Please. Fitz, just give me one solid indictment.... that will be enough to open the can of worms.

Posted by The Dude at October 28, 2005 08:00 AM

Goose,

Got to admit, it doesn’t look good for my side.

If Libby lied to the GJ, I want to see him hang. You have to admit though, the republicans have sure handled themselves with a lot more dignity than your side did during the Clinton investigation.

Even with every news agency convinced that Libby used false statements, I find it difficult to believe he would do something so stupid.

But as I’ve said before, a bet is a bet. Let’s wait and see what happens.

Posted by j.west at October 28, 2005 08:12 AM

"Moving on, in more important news, the GDP came in at 3.8% today. I think that kind of shocked those who thought the economy was slowing down. Market seems to like it.'

Sounds like hope to me! The markets are reacting in this way because although they react to the worries about war, natural disasters, terror threats, they also reflect the good mood most people are in because they really want the Bush gang to go down in flames. Just ask around - I have and I find this to be true among everyone I know, no matter what party they belong to. He stinks to high heaven as leader.

Posted by TLV at October 28, 2005 08:16 AM

My side did during clinton? You side said prejury was a crime during clinton and now it is not. The clinton investigation was on every day, this one one had update and no leaking from the Pros. You side feels it is ok to commit treason and out a CIA officer our side said lieing about sex is no big deal. No I don't aggree.

Posted by goose1 at October 28, 2005 08:20 AM

what president clinton did was terrible! almost as bad as rolling up CIA front operations involved in nuclear nonproliferation.
moving forward, it's important we appeal to all sectors of society, be they anti- or pro-corruption. we help no one when we exclude the pro-corruptionists.

Posted by joe lieberman at October 28, 2005 09:02 AM

You have to admit though, the republicans have sure handled themselves with a lot more dignity than your side did during the Clinton investigation.

WTF are you yapping about? Dignity? You mean how the Republicans have already planned and have already begun spinning their smear campaign? First it was that "criminalization of politics" catch phrase, then accusations that Fitzgerald is partisan, then assertions that perjury isn't really a crime.

You can tie it up with whatever colored bow you want, it's messy and going to get uglier.

Posted by ann at October 28, 2005 09:05 AM

On a different note, I saw a few interviews last night - on CNN, maybe - about the curfews they are enacting for registered sex offenders on Halloween. Now, call me uniformed, but I have never heard that there was a higher incidence of sex offenders assaulting children on Halloween. Just another attempt to keep the people scared and distracted, I think.

Here's the link on the economic numbers. Snippets:

Growth in the U.S. economy picked up in the third quarter to a 3.8% annualized rate, the Commerce Department said Friday.

Inflation cooled down. Core consumer prices increased at a 1.3% rate in the quarter, the slowest quarterly increase since the second quarter of 2003.

The core PCE price index has increased 1.9% over the past year, down from 2.0% growth in the second quarter and the slowest annual increase since the first quarter of 2004.

US 3Q Employment Costs. Snippets:

Benefit costs again outpaced wages and salaries, the Labor Department said Friday. Benefit costs between June and September rose 1.3%, while wages and salaries climbed 0.6%.

Employment costs for state and local government workers climbed 1.1% in the third quarter. Wage and salary costs rose 0.7%, with benefit costs moving up 1.7%.

"Compensation costs do not appear to pose a significant threat to the outlook for inflation at this time," said Michelle Girard of RBS Greenwich Capital.

"However, with the unemployment rate around 5% and anecdotal evidence suggesting tightening labor markets and even some signs of wage pressures, the results may not be as benign going forward," she said.

My notes on the numbers are that benefit costs continue to be the largest growing element in total employee compensation, that inflation is under control, but that a stronger GDP number and a tight labor market could put upward pressure on wages down the road. Watch the jobs numbers!

Right now, things are pretty good.

Except for Scooter. Every administration needs a fall guy I suppose. In football, they call that a safety. (Not the defensive back, but a release valve in an offensive play that doesn't work out.) If the QB drops back to pass and receivers are covered, often times the halfback will release from the backfield out in the flat to be the safety. The QB dinks the ball off to avoid the pass rush, and the halfback tries to make something happen.

Now watch, after Scooter faces whatever penalties down the road, he'll end up with a nationally syndicated radio show and be highly compensated for speeches around the country. Either that or he'll be tackled behind the line of scrimmage. We'll have to wait and see.

No, the quarterback is going to be sacked.
