Here's the answer to the question about the escalating American death toll that someone asked about:

Posted by dennis at November 5, 2005 02:19 AMHere's you laugh for the whole weekend. A little late for seminars on ethical behavior I would say. Isn't this like a thief giving seminars on the immorality of thievery? By-the-way, Rove has been mandated (that reminds me, what happened to Jeffrey?) to attend.

President Bush has ordered White House staff to attend mandatory briefings beginning next week on ethical behavior and the handling of classified material after the indictment last week of a senior administration official in the CIA leak probe.

Posted by dennis at November 5, 2005 03:53 AMI'm feeling a bit guilty for comforting myself the day after last year's election by believing that another four years of this GANG would implode and their arrogance would bite them in the butt! Not THAT guilty, however, that I can't enjoy what is coming home to roost for them. My joy pales when I consider the damage this does to our once proud land, though.

Posted by Dancer at November 5, 2005 05:43 AMListening to the reports of rioting in Argentina, I have to ask how many of those protestors are actually rioting to cause property damage, and how many of those protestors are actually police and military covert-ops teams intent on smearing the protests and inciting rioting?
Posted by idiosynchronic at November 5, 2005 06:09 AMYeah, well, Idio, we have to have something to believe in, if we don't we should fold up and frikkin' die. I ain't gonna vote for nobody, nohow, noway on election day here in Virginia next week because I know, I KNOW votes will be manipulated in favor for the Huns. Not voting is what I plan to do, but I must have FAITH, so I WILL vote. Faith is important. Faith, faith, faith.....and more faith.

Sen. Barack Obama Says He'll Block All of the President's EPA Nominees
By JOHN HEILPRIN
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. Barack Obama said Friday he will block all of President Bush's nominees to key positions in the Environmental Protection Agency until it issues long-overdue regulations limiting people's exposure to lead paint from house remodeling.
EPA spokeswoman Eryn Witcher said the agency will issue the regulations before the end of the year. Obama's office said the senator will reconsider if he gets a promise from EPA in writing. Senate rules and privileges effectively allow any senator to block a nomination.

Dancer,
Like you, I have feelings of guilt in that with Bush getting a second term he is going to be held responsable for the damage that he has caused. The worst thing is that in some ways things are falling apart faster than I thought they would, this really is a house of cards. The next three years are going to be remembered badly for the rest of this century.
At least with Bush being in charge, they'll be no nostalgia for this era when it's over. No future GOP candidates will call for a return to the "good old days of W." Even though Kerry would manage things better and the short term pain would be less, the noise machine would successfully blame a lot on him and by 2008 they might be able to get Jeb elected. Thus, the long term pain could be worse and prolonged. That's not going to happen now. America is going to be cured of Bu$hism forever. They'll be no turning back and no direction to go but up!
Posted by rlp at November 5, 2005 07:38 AMrlp,
Once again you have it completely wrong. 20 years from now when people look back on this 8 years they will see:
1 - The blossoming of democracy in Iraq (despite your constant wish that there be civil war. The only question is whether you'll still be talking about how that's going to happen 20 years from now). By 2028 Iraq will be a highly functioning society in the Mid-East and well on it's way to becoming a major economic player globally (if it isn't already there by then).
2 - The era of low unemployement rates (now the lowest in 25 years) despite 911, hurricanes, and the war on terorism.
3 - The era where a President actually did something about the rising energy costs by moving forward with the implementation of drilling in Alaska and offshore to remove the US independence on foreign oil.
4 - 20 years from now when Social Security reform is done and people can invest their own money, it will be the Repub's who get credit thanks to Bush and not the Dem's who's only plan these days is "no" (to everything).
5 - Bush will be credited with the defeat of Islamnic terrorism which was a grave threat to the US.
I could go on and on. As far as the Dem's go, it will be remembered with mild amusement as the era when they completely imploded and went over the cliff because they had no plans and were stuck in the past. The era where they grabbed on to anyone and anything to try and bring down Bush only to have it fail every time. Only time will tell how many more times you repeat this strategy (Bill Burkett, Cindy Sheehan, Joe Wilson). I'm dying to find out who's next after Wilson explodes in your face.
I'm sure your analysis of Bush sounds plausible when talking among your liberal friends in your cocoon, but in the real world, most people will not see it that way.
Posted by The Real Truth at November 5, 2005 08:02 AMHey, Real Kool-Aid, save those fabulous prognostications----can't wait to see how they line up 20 years from now.
BTW, 70% of Americans (by most recent polls) doubt that the future is so rosy, so don't blather on about how "most people see it (your) way".
You nay want to lay away a really heavy supply of the Kool-Aid for the next 20 years, as well.

Posted by Judith at November 5, 2005 09:01 AMFive talking points made, five talking points wrong.
1. No civil war? The heavily shiite city of Basra was attacked this week by sunnis. Have you read about the sniping between Kurds and sunnis in Kirkut. A year ago, Kirkut was promoted as the model of how "the new Iraq" was going to work, not anymore. This month U.S. forces in Iraq are engaging in over 100 firefights a day, a year ago it was about 50. And this isn't counting the intersectional fighting mentioned above. If this intersectional fighting isn't the early stages of a civil war, what the hell is it? The road to Shambala? (My apologies to three dog night fans)
2. Last month the labor force srunk but the unemployment rate went down. All this means is that people who have been out of work for so long that thier unemployment checks have run out are not being counted anymore. If you don't get a check, they don't count you, your just considered outside the work force. The fact that this has happened to enough people to lower the unemployment rate at the same time that the labor force is srinking means that a lot of people fall into this category. If I'm wrong why is the new jobs created number at 56k when even muckdog (and I agree with him on this) has said many times that you need 150-200k new jobs a month to have true job growth in an economy with a population this size.
3.We can't dril our way to energy independence, North America, and I'm including Canada and Mexico, doesn't have enough oil left. The east Texas feild that more or less fueled WWII is just about gone. The north slope is past its peak and ANWAR is much smaller than either one of those fields. Bush has done almost nothing in the area of conservation. True, the entire beltway establishment, especally the lobbyists are to blame for much of this. Our energy policies, including mileage standards for autos are too low and there are other examples such as the continued building of suburbs futher from center cities. Of corse far flung suburbs are going to be cost prohibitive to most Americans soon but that's a whole different point. There's just not enough domestic production possible for the Bush approach to work on its own.
4.Don't make me laugh.
5. How is he going to end Islamic terrorism? How did it begin? What keeps it going? Can you answer any of these questions? A "doctor" cannot cure a disease if he doesn't know what causes it. There has always been a tiny extrenist minority in the moslem world that hates the west for "what we are" as Bush likes to say. By themselves they are not a threat, there are not enough of them, most people are not willing to die for the abstract principal of "killing the infedel." Al Qaeida resists "infedel" occupation of Islamic lands. They opposed, with our help, the Soviets in Afghanistan. During Gulf War I as the Soviets were no longer a problem for them but the U.S. went into moslem countries for the war and (even worse) stayed to protect oil supplies, they turned their attention to us. We became the occupier. Can you explain how having American solders fighting arabs is making us friends over there? Don't talk about some school being built, by itself thsat would be a good thing but that's not what people remember when friends and family are getting killed. They see us as occupiers who have come to take their oil. The Bush response to 911 was excatly what OBL wanted, we are his best recruiters. Moslem extremisnm is getting worse, look at the numbers, movements in their death throes as Cheney said months ago don't keep getting stronger by the month at an almost exponential rate. You don't want to hear that but look at the numbers, that's the real truth!

Posted by headxray at November 5, 2005 10:18 AMGiving ethics lessons to Republicans has to be the funniest of all:
Bush: "Remember people "Ethics means not getting caught. What's wrong with you? We own the media, we own the government, corporate American owns us, we're defended by the Xtian talilban, so xhow can you get caught?
Obama's office said the senator will reconsider if he gets a promise from EPA in writing....Posted by Judith aTheir written word is like their spoken word: meaningless. Obama should know that by now.
I could go on and on. Posted by The Real TruthYou could indeed "go on" but it would all be the same delusional nonsense that you have spouted before. Bush is the worst president in American history, but he still fools 35% of the people all the time. The Democrat's past included the world's respect, meaningful actions against terrorism, budget surpluses, reduced national debt, higher stock market, higher employment, more job opportunities, and a higher standard of living for more Americans.
…I have to ask how many of those protestors are actually rioting to cause property damage, and how many of those protestors are actually police and military covert-ops teams intent on smearing the protests and inciting rioting? These people who look for places to torture people in peace (i.e. Eastern Europe) giving seminars on ethics? The administration of George Bush, who are the lowest forms of life in the moral cesspool? What a joke, huh?

Joregon, yes it is a sick joke. This is nothing more than a PR stunt to make Bush appear the above the fray. It won't work.
