Comments: Lame Duck?

After being duped by the recall, maybe Californians are seeing these criminal selfish fascist republicans for what they are. The maps on the state election results web site are very interesting.

fuck grover, fuck arnold, fuck every fucking republican that thought they could ruin this country without being held accountable. i'm so sick of this shit and so are, apparently, the american people.

Thanks for doing Rove's biddings. Republican victories on Issue 4 in Ohio and Prop 77 in California. Knocked down that renagade moderate Republican a notch or two. Thanks, Karl Rove thanks you. We'll keep our gerrymandered districts just the way they are. Same Congress, same WH, and we'll enjoy our new conservative SC Justices with all the lower court judges lifetime appointments. Same number of governorships as before. Gained the mayor's jobs in San Diego and Manchester, kept NYC. Not exactly as I would have wished, but heh. Those redistricting reform measures going down were worth it. Saved us many seats in Congress. Just think of the loss of newly gerrymandered seats in Ohio and California had the safety net of the current law been changed. The National GOP is very happy about this, Karl Rove is too.

damn good news from CA. my sentiments exactly, Steve.

and good news from Maine too. thanks Maine!!

Funny that no one has mentioned the props in Ohio. Maybe that's because after all the money Soros et. al. spent on it, they were defeated. And not by just a little. It was a butt whipping.

This is the real news of the election night. For all the talk on the threads the last month about how 'Amercian voters were waking up to the truth', it looks to me like they were already awake and a lot more aware of the issues than you thought. And that should scare you because the only way Dem's win anymore is when voters are ignorant of what's going on.

fuck yourself real lies...asshole...

Posted by headxray at November 9, 2005 03:51 AM

I think in any other year, the redistricting would have passed,,, but I get the feeling people are looking for a Democratic victory soon to correct the current problems and liberate the state and country.

Your shitflinging party was PWN3D last night like your ass would be PWN3D by a bull queer in prison.

You're such a pathetic little fuck. Your need to come on here and expose your idiocy is quite hilarious.

it's impeachment time.....and all trolls and fraud supporters should be locked up as well for high crimes and misdemeaners against the good people of this country..when the dems win the house and recapture the white house...these bugs should be quished into the ground..never to rise again..that will be gw's legacy

O.K., who want's to change the constitution to allow Arnholt to run for president? What, I'm about a year late? What happened? Oh, reality.

Pretty good election and I'll mention Ohio. Sometimes when there has been the kind of scandal that has been seen in Ohio voters just say 'no'. They'll have other chances to correct things, cleaning the statehouse out next year would be a good start. I doubt Ohio loves corruption more than other states.

Today, my job takes me into the "field', I want to see if the trollish spin gets any better than what I've seen this mornong, I doubt it.

Posted by bbtb at November 9, 2005 05:34 AM

bendito, you seem to have forgotten your recent history. After stealing the election last year, think back to the comments your "peeps" were making. Crap about mandates and running liberals up the flagpole, etc.

Today is the first day of the start of the return to Democracy in this country, and we're a bit pleased. If you can't take it, get over it. And get used to it.

Anybody catch what happened in Kansas? Just after their school board voted to include intelligent deisgn in their biology curriculum, the voters ousted eight Republicans from the Board. The school board had redefined the meaning of science. LOL.

don't know much about science

Funny; that last comment was issued from the same IP address as the one used by Centrist the last month.

hmm. The name-calling is a little heavy here today. Once again, I feel for The Real Truth. First, because it's about to be VERY lonely being a wingnut in California. Second because - well, he must not have much to do if he feels the need to shout at us here, right? Fly away home, little troll. It's almost time to pick up and move to your people in - where are the wingnuts going to hide now? Utah?

Posted by samantha at November 9, 2005 06:26 AM

I don't think last night was that big a deal (though I'm not in California). What I think really made the difference in those two tightly-fought gubernatorial races was vicious ads. The guys who went the dirtiest lost. That's a good sign for Dems, though, because if sleaze finally stops working, the GOP playbook has essentially been ripped to shreds.

"WE PUT A REPUBLICAN MAYOR IN SAN DIEGO!!!!"

Oh, I've just come!!!

What, we lost NJ and VA. VA. Lost. Didn't the Fuhrer, ahem, the President lobby for Republican Jerry Kilgore yesterday. I thought we owned the voting machines. Still, could be worse. WHAT, Ahnold's propositions got TERMINATED! HE WON'T BE BACK! What the fuck happened to our "mandate"? I don't understand, didn't we tell the American people that we are at war over the very soul of America in Iraq enough? Don't they understand that we have to drill for oil in Alaska to combat terrorism. Can't they get it through their thick, liberal, skulls that we have to deregulate environmental standards so polluters can make more money and fuck up American air to avenge 9/11? Lying and obstruction of justice is okay, because we're at war. Lying to go to war is okay, because we are at war. Sending American jobs and money ($19 bilion a month) to communist China is okay because we're at war. Sending care packages to poor relatives in communist Cuba is treachery because we're at war. Defunding Medicare and folding Social Security is okay because we're at war. Oh, thank George, I mean God, we put another Mayor in New Hampshire. You know what we need to right this miserable night; to make sure we win in '06 so we don't face hearings from a Democratic Congress? Yeah, that's right, another war.

Posted by soothsayer at November 9, 2005 07:44 AM

Steve, That made my day!!

Centrist, You don't realize the power of CA, it's the 7th largest economy in the WORLD!

He really is a Gropenator fan, must have been watching his movies all night! Poor baby!

Posted by bbtb at November 9, 2005 07:57 AM

Ahh, the sweet smell of failure...

Tomorrow, we'll get back to the reality that our state is still in sorry shape. Today, we can celebrate that at least we won't be headed in the wrong direction.

Corzine did better than I expected. What had me worried up until the last week was that Corzine only got over 50% in one or two polls. In every other poll in the last few months even though he led Forrester he was stuck in the mid to upper 40s, leaving the possibility that a big chunk of the undecideds might go to Forrester.

So the weak poll numbers combined with my natural pessimism made me nervous going in, but in the end Corzine pulled it off comfortably.

One factor in Corzine's win is that the cities came through for him. The Democratic machines in Hudson, Essex, and Camden counties turned out the votes, and since turnout wasn't great in the GOP dominated counties they give Corzine a comfortable base of votes to start with.

Beyond the city machines, Corzine had high name recognition, lots of advertising, and a good GOTV ground operation.

The other big factor was his opponent.

I agree with Steve that Forrester failed to successfully associate Corzine with the corrupt Dem bosses (even though he could easily have done so). So even though people know the Jersey Dems are corrupt, most Democratic and independent voters chose not to take it out on Corzine.

I thought Forrester himself came across poorly. In his speeches and public statements (the ones I saw anyway) he came across as a smarmy, arrogant ass.

Although negative campaigning often works, in this case I think the Joanne Corzine ad backfired on Forrester. He was also hurt by the fact that Corzine's campaign responded in kind. While this didn't generate any love for Corzine, it kept Forrester looking just as dirty by comparison. Even a lot of people who voted for Forrester were holding their noses as they did it.

Overall, the constant personal attacks and negative ads by both sides probably hurt Forrester more than Corzine since when people are disgusted with both candidates they may tend to reflexively vote for their usual party preference or stay home. And since NJ has trended Democratic in recent years due to the insanity of the national GOP, more people are inclined to vote Democratic than Republican by default at this point. I think a lot of people may have voted for Corzine as a proxy vote against Bush.

After two major statewide defeats in a row, Doug Forrester's political career is pretty much over. No way the NJ or national GOP would tap him for any statewide or federal office again. Bye Doug. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

You're right, Junkie, we got work to do.

Hey, Art Torres, arnie wants to make a deal now. What's he got to offer?

What's that, he's got NUTHIN??!!

Hmmm................., wasn't he in a meeting before the 2000 election with Big Time Dick and the boys? Maybe he remembers what went on there?

Ya got anything else arnie?

No? Damn. Too bad. Hey Art, arnies got nuthin. NO DEALS. Make him cry instead.

That is the perfect descriptive name for Bushistas who want to turn the US into a third world country based on the Haitian economic model that is so dear to their hearts. The proper spelling is s-e-n-s-e. Posted by Mike at November 9, 2005 09:40 AM

Actually, No Common Sense, Texas should be the state to be given back to Mexico. Texas seems to be state producing the most incompetent politicians, hellbent on destroying the country.

Wow. The usual trolls at Thinkprogress had the good sense not to show their faces last night or today.

Says a lot about the quality of trolls TLC is attacting these days when they don't even know their asses have been handed to them. I can understand the lack of shame, but you'd think the humiliation would do the trick, just the same.
