Love the comments about Grover Norquist. I met him once and friends in the GOP here in Virginia let me know that he's a raving homo into S&M who keeps whips and chains in his house as decorations, etc. He's in the bathtub now. Congrats to all Dem winners in Virginia. I'm glad as hell Leslie Byrne lost. She doesn't need to be in politics. She always reminded me of Imelda Marcos. I've known her for years. Mal has an interesting political past. Virginia's done the gubernatorial split deal before. Rep George Allen was elected governor and Dem Don Beyer was Lt. Governor. Mike Ferris was a wacko RR nutcase nobody wanted on the ticket. Byrne is the same. I'm so glad people in California woke up. As I always maintain, when the pocketbook is hit, all misty-eyed ideology goes right out the window.
Posted by Mal Feasance at November 9, 2005 05:41 AMHear, hear! Don't mess with the nurses!

Posted by Jolly Sapper at November 9, 2005 07:11 AMFrom Minnesota we also send our thanks. Not only do nurses do the heavy lifting in medicine, they now do it in politics.
Posted by Ivor the Engine Driver at November 9, 2005 07:14 AMAmen to that, and don't forget the firefighters, too. Having them dog Arnold every time he showed his face in public made a big difference.
Posted by CA Pol Junkie at November 9, 2005 08:16 AMThe ads the nurses have run are great! AND they have been running them for months. And protesting...
As Rose de Moro says, the unions and the dem party told them to take it lying down, that Arnold was "too popular" and they should make a deal. LOL. Nurses decided NOT to be Monte Hall.
A big big thank you to them... ;)
Posted by Marisacat at November 9, 2005 09:47 AMI second that emotion. Thank you California nurses! You showed us how it can and should be done! When Arnold came to MA for a Fenway Park concert( fundraiser for himself), the Mass. Nurses Association also carried on the tradition of dogging him. It made headlines out here in the local news....very effective. Thank you!
Posted by emal at November 9, 2005 12:26 PMGotta put in plug for the teachers too! As a teacher, I felt almost hounded myself by the e-mails, phone calls, flyers etc. I got from the relentless CA Teacher's Association telling me to tell Ahnold to f*** off. The little people sometimes do prevail!
Posted by Jessie at November 9, 2005 12:59 PMAll should note that last night during the party as I saw her interviewed on TV, Rose Ann DeMoro of the nurses said that nobody should expect to rest. CNA won't be stopping til we get Arnold out next fall.
Posted by janinsanfran at November 9, 2005 04:01 PMCongratulations to the Nurses for Leading the Way, and to you for acknowledging their leadership.
Thank Goddess, some people around here don't have balls.
Posted by joanne at November 9, 2005 08:00 PMthank you nurses, thank you CA, and thank you paradox for an excellent post. what a great day yesterday turned out to be.
viva!!
The gropenator may be "crippled" in California, but continues to attempt to influence elsewhere. In Massachusetts his "arno" machine (financed by the GOP, of course, is using "bait and switch" tactics to gather signatures to place an anti-gay measure on the ballot.
