Comments: Bush Continues The "Lying Bastards" Campaign On Veteran's Day

the guy who made that sign misspelled "strategery."

Posted by dubya at November 11, 2005 10:54 AM

Let me get this out of the way;

WORST

PRESIDENT

EVER!

Posted by snark at November 11, 2005 10:59 AM

I found the president's going on the defensive by blaming everyone else for believing his lies to be more of the same drivel he's been pushing. You're right, now is the time for dems to demand phase 2 of the investigation.

Posted by Zhoward at November 11, 2005 11:01 AM

Shorter Bush: you guys were stupid to believe my lies. More of the same: It's always the fault of someone else.

Posted by Ga6thDem at November 11, 2005 11:03 AM

A decent president would not be spending his time castigating the Democrats, but would rather spend his (read: our) time getting us out of this quagmire.

Posted by Cookie Monster at November 11, 2005 11:08 AM

"you were stupid to believe me"

This is the pushback?

Oh, now that's funny.

Posted by iamcoyote at November 11, 2005 11:16 AM

Witless and Worthless simply get himself deeper and deeper into the quagmire with each tortured sentence and twisted "fact". And it's all on camera. Let the lying bastard continue on, he's only pouring lye and cement into his own grave. Carry on, Emperor Idiot!

Remember that train wreck in "The Fugitive?"

That was viscerally fun to watch. Highly entertaining.

So is this one.

Posted by God Of War at November 11, 2005 11:26 AM

This train wreck is NOT fun to watch. I love my country as much as I hate its "leadership". What Bush is doing to us will take a generation of enlightened leadership to fix. My children and grandchildren will inherit the mess that Bush and his crooked cronies are imposing on us.

Posted by Cookie Monster at November 11, 2005 11:28 AM

It is Veterans' Day, a day to honor our brave men and women NOT a friggin day for his damn photo ops and false speeches. Truly this has to be the absolute worse public official ever elected in my lifetime.

He was elected??? I don't think so.

_____

He is an absolute piece of shit.

Think of how much better a world this would have been if the Bush and Rove common ancestors had been offed by saber-toothed tigers way back in the day.

THAT is how rotten these fuckers are. Their very existence is reprehensible.

Fuck you, Shrub, and fuck that pigman traitor who whispers in your ear.

Posted by God Of War at November 11, 2005 11:38 AM

, our nation is united and we will settle for nothing less than victory.

And getting more united all the time, although not in a way benificial to the chimpster.

And the victory party will be decidedly Republicant free.

Posted by SnarkyShark at November 11, 2005 11:43 AM

"the same intelligence"? Remember the talking points before and during the invasion, as mouthed by Cheney et al, was that the administration had solid evidence that it could not disclose... And the Senate clearances were yanked after 9/11 after some gooper (conveniently?) blabbed about a briefing.

Posted by Alopex Lagopus at November 11, 2005 11:45 AM

They wanted us to unify and we did. They lied to us and we were unified and didn't do our due diligence.
The Otter's line from Animal House comes to mind, "Flounder, you can't spend your whole life worrying about your mistakes! You fucked up - you trusted us! Hey, make the best of it! Maybe we can help."

Posted by Pat at November 11, 2005 11:46 AM

Jeffrey Feldman had a post up at Daily Kos this morning (cross-posted at his website http://www.frameshopisopen.com/) that outlines a plan for the Dems. It's titled "My Bad." I think he's right on about what they should do.

Posted by Susan S at November 11, 2005 11:50 AM

I dont know that he said the same intelligence as the white house. Maybe he meant they all had access amongst themselves to a set of intelligence that was fed them?

Posted by mjc at November 11, 2005 11:53 AM

The Senate investigation also "found no evidence" of Jimmy Hoffa's corpse, but that doesn't mean it wasn't dumped in a swamp someplace.

Nice try, Georgie. Won't wash. Now go on a bus tour and ramp up those invitation only town hall meetings. We'll see you in January, when we celebrate your last year in office.

Posted by mrblifil at November 11, 2005 11:55 AM

Most dangerous (to our country's health) president EVER.

and we citizens, not withstanding to stolen votes, helped bring this type of politician into office. We can change it, and I believe we are changing that pattern.

All that being said, and beyond the impeachment that could come soon... it is my hope that this man and these men go on trial in international court for war crimes.

And I had that hope BEFORE I heard that we used Willie Pete against humans, and before I saw the flesh melted bodies. Has Mr. Bush seen those photos??? Chaney? Rove? et al? Perhaps the Real Terror War Plan was....
"you want terror! We will out-terrorize you!"

How sad. It didn't need to go this way.

I pray for all veterens and for peace in their hearts. And for Bush et al... I wish they had hearts.

Posted by peacedude at November 11, 2005 12:00 PM

As horrible as this is for the country of my birth and all the people this administration has killed, lied to or otherwise ruined... I can't stop grinning watching this play out. Sad it had to take this much and this long to get things out into the light about these lunatics who don't even belong in office.

Posted by weevil_6969 at November 11, 2005 12:04 PM

I think that this strategery of the prez, to blame all others but himself, is sheer brilliance. He only highlights the need for a transparent investigation into the management of WMD intelligence. He is bringing the war back to the forefront of the American peoples psyche. If he is to have any credibility he should be willing to testify under oath that the evidence cited was legitimate. However, the CIA and FBI may have differing opinions from the Iraq Group in the White House, the original draft-deferred, chicken-hawk, gang that mounted the charges and managed the intelligence to go into Iraq.

This 'it wasn't my fault' act will seriously hurt Bush in the long run. Katrina proved that he doesn't havea handle on disaster management in the event of a terror attack and Iraq is proving that he can't handle national security. To balme the democrats when he has the house, senate, and his own presidency, proves that he is dropping into a bottomless pit of shit.

Now is the time for the Mainstream Corporate Media* to prove to the public that it can do real journalism.

Not one article or TV segment should appear which does not reference the context: BushCo's war build up statements, the new information of what was kept from the public and the Congress....

OK, that's kinda longish--but it must be referenced, there should be sidebar columns with the pertinent prewar misleading statements.

Can the Kewl Kidz do it? Hhhmmm. Can the real journalists do it? Damn right(write, too).

*I do not remember where I saw this, but it struck me as more accurate than MSM. Because it is the Corporatism which mainly leads to lousy journalism, IMHO.

Posted by jawbone at November 11, 2005 12:18 PM

Great article, Steve. How's the impeachment coming along? Why don't we go to the Oval office and pick him up chair and all and carry him out of there? Let him cool down in the cooler. I hate this guy. I want him gone by Jan 1, 2006!

Tina Brown reporting on the steadfast Margaret Thatcher's opinion of going to war (It should benoted that Thatcher was one of Reagan's greatest admirers and vice versa):

"The former chairman of the Arts Council of Great Britain, Lord Palumbo, who lunched with Mrs. T (Thatcher) six months ago, told me recently what she said when he asked her if, given the intelligence at the time, she would have made the decision to invade Iraq. "I was a scientist before I was a politician, Peter," she told him carefully. "And as a scientist I know you need facts, evidence and proof—and then you check, recheck and check again. The fact was that there were no facts, there was no evidence, and there was no proof. As a politician the most serious decision you can take is to commit your armed services to war from which they may not return."

Posted by dennis at November 11, 2005 01:03 PM

Aquarius, you are so right. What a canker of unmitigated gall and shrinking cowardice, to once again hide behind other peoples' uniforms, using our armed forces as a captive audience, and on a day that's set aside to commemorate them. Not to harangue them or use them for crass political show. Disgraceful.

bush-- what a miserable excuse for a human being he is.

Posted by Altoid at November 11, 2005 01:16 PM

....regardless of Lie or No Lie to get us into the War...nothing Bush can say excuses the fact that once AT WAR, he has not only proven incapable of winning it, but had absolutely no plan in place to do so, and has destroyed Iraq in the process. Whether right or wrong to go to war, he has lost it. And was 100% unprepared both to wage it and to deal with the consequences of the invasion. It would, in my opinion, be better for the Dems to focus on that failure, as most of them did give him the vote to invade if he wanted. But nobody voted to lose the war and nobody voted to ruin Iraq and nobody voted to destroy the country's oil infrastructure and nobody voted to stick our country in the quagmire. Those are 100% George W. Bush's doings.

That sign -- "Strategy for Victory" -- is so lame, particularly since there is no apparent strategy.

Does it remind anyone else of "Whip Inflation Now" -- the sign that worked so well for Gerald Ford?

Posted by walden at November 11, 2005 01:29 PM

So you thought the Republicans support the troops, eh? Read the following:

"Nov. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A proposal to end the long-standing practice of veterans groups addressing a joint session of the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees is an insult to all who have fought, sacrificed and died to defend the Constitution, according to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). And in a strongly worded letter to House Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.), the DAV has urged him to continue the joint hearings as an invaluable tool in formulating public policy toward America's veterans.

Chairman Buyer recently announced that veterans service organizations will no longer have the opportunity to present testimony before a joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees.

"The tradition of legislative presentations by veterans service organizations dates back to at least the 1950s. And the timing of this announcement -- just before Veterans Day -- could not have been worse," said DAV National Commander Paul W. Jackson."

O.k., now everyone don't forget your flag lapel pins!!

Bush: "Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and mislead the American people about why we went to war," Bush said.

Only NOW he says?!! Opponents of the war have been talking about the manipulated intelligence for a long damn time now. Hey, Bush. Welcome to the truth you cave man. I know it's hard to accept but the first step to getting help is admitting that you are a liar.

Check into Republican rehab ASAP.

More speechifyin from a moron who can't string more than three words into a sentence. This horsefucker doesn't have a clue.

Posted by Red_Neck_Repub at November 11, 2005 01:43 PM

Somehow, hearing Bush's rant (and it is the rant of a desperate man backed into a corner who knows no other way out then to attack), this line from "Animal House" comes to mind.

"Come on, buddy, there's nothing you can do. You fucked up! You trusted us!"

That's his whole defense in a nutshell.

Posted by gf120581 at November 11, 2005 02:11 PM

I'm afraid the sign "Strategy for Victory" Bush had at his little temper tantrum was incomplete. Someone forgot the "No" at the beginning.

Rove crooning to Bush "This is the end, my only friend the end...I'll never look into your eyes again"

Posted by bbtb at November 11, 2005 03:38 PM

Carter, the other night on Charlie Rose, said that Democrats should come forward and tell the American people that they were lied to about the War, just as we were. He also said that they should make it quite clear that the information they received was also based on lies and misinformation. I agree with Carter.

A contemptable speech by the most contemptable president ever. Let's see the poll numbers next week. This guy needs a new act or a new audience. I think this very very old act with the old audience will no longer fly. He and his fellow thugs have no new act, so let's get them a new audience as soon as possible. In the House and Senate. Or whatever US Court they can be dragged into (I guess it will have to wait after 2008 for Bush). Or the Hague along with their old pal from the 80s, Saddam,... or someplace.

Who the hell do they think they can kid? Unbelievable. The "everyone thunk it was true" line is a patent, transparent lie. The "all the Democrats voted to go to war" is also a patent transparent lie." Sure, many Democrats will look like shameful goofs when this is over, but it will be very clear that that they did not have all the facts, and their own words in the public record indicate that they did not vote to "go straight to war, do not pass Go." The public may end up have contempt and pity for the Democratic (and some GOP) marks, but I think their opinion of the swindlers will be far worse.

Dig deeper, dig deeper, Great Leader!

Talk about rewritting history. Last night Condi went from forgetting she talked about an imminent mushroom cloud to claiming she had said "Saddam could have a nuclear weapon within ten years." We rushed to war with the army they had (and couldn't afford to give the UN a few more months to finish the weapons inspection) for that.

These folks have spun so much, they are completely dizzy and without dunctioning brains. They really can't tell up from down anymore.

Posted by erichwwk at November 12, 2005 05:19 AM

Talk about rewriting history. Bush and his minions do it often. Let’s look at history. The Bush minions wanted to invade Iraq since 1998. They wrote a letter to then President Clinton urging him to invade, but Clinton was smart enough not to. Bush became president and the minions went with him to Washington. 9/11 happened. The Bush minions made a show of invading Afghanistan, but didn’t find Bin Laden. They then saw that this could be their chance to finally invade Iraq. First they had to whip the people up. Bin Laden started morphing into Saddam. Every time a Bush minion talked on TV it was Saddam is evil, Saddam is trying to destroy us, Saddam gassed his own people (they leave out that this happened in the 80’s), Saddam and Bin Laden are in it together, Saddam has WMD, and then finally when nothing else worked – Saddam will use a nuclear weapon on US. Bush gave his famous State of the Union speech to put it altogether. Bush needed a resolution from congress. Read the resolution. It says: (b) PRESIDENTIAL DETERMINATION.—In connection with the
exercise of the authority granted in subsection (a) to use force
the President shall, prior to such exercise or as soon thereafter
as may be feasible, but no later than 48 hours after exercising
such authority, make available to the Speaker of the House of
Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate his
determination that—
(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic
or other peaceful means alone either (A) will not adequately
protect the national security of the United States against the
continuing threat posed by Iraq or (B) is not likely to lead
to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council
resolutions regarding Iraq; and
(2) acting pursuant to this joint resolution is consistent
with the United States and other countries continuing to take
the necessary actions against international terrorist and terrorist
organizations, including those nations, organizations, or
persons who planned, authorized, committed or aided the terrorist
attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.
This was also in one of Bush’s speech before the resolution passed: Later this week, the United States Congress will vote on this matter. I have asked congress to authorize the use of America’s military, if it proves necessary, to enforce UN Security Council demands. Approving this resolution does not mean that military action is imminent or unavoidable. See Bush said that the resolution did not mean WAR. The war is Bush’s, he is the commander in chief. It does not say – Bush you have to invade Iraq, let them loot, spend a lot of money NOT rebuilding their country, blur the lines when it comes to prisoners, make sure the terrorists finally do come to Iraq, etc., etc. Bush is the commander in chief, right? When there were no WMD’s, Bush and his minions rewrote history by making the Iraq invasion the central front in the “war on terror”. Then for awhile the war was about freedom for the Iraqis. When that didn’t fly, people might feel that 2,000 of our people didn’t need to die to free Iraqis. Then they rewrote history again and made it that we were fighting to give Iraqis God’s gift of freedom. That’s better blame it on God.

A more complete response to GWB's attempt to change Veteran's Day from a day to honor our soldiers to an opportunity for more blatant lies.

Posted by erichwwk at November 12, 2005 05:55 AM

Yeah, the "Compassionate Conservative" never misses an opportunity, does he? Even if it means building himself up on the dead bodies of veterans.

Posted by Judith at November 12, 2005 07:00 AM

The precise kinds of challenges against Bush being made by Democrats now were routinely made by Republicans every time Clinton used the military. As revealed by this excellent compilation of GOP statements in the 1990s attacking Clinton's motives and honesty with regard to Kosovo, bin Laden attack and Iraq bombings, the GOP incessently made the exact kinds of anti-war critiques which they are now claiming are "unpatriotic."

Posted by Edison at November 12, 2005 07:04 AM

it's unfortunate that Bush is even trying this tactic. it would be even more unfortunate if it gets any traction.

Posted by blosh at November 12, 2005 08:31 AM

The President was right. The Mission was Accomplished. But the mission to start a war with Iraq by any means even if that meant ignoring the 9/11 threat and fixing intelligence to further Mr. Cheneys goals. They're the new crusaders leading us into the dark ages.
