Comments: America, We Hardly Knew Ye

Oreily wants AQ to blow up SFO. From KOS are his sponsors and contact details. Time to get rid of Oreily. Write his sponsors.

According to his website, his corporate sponsors are:

* Equifax
* Life Quotes, Inc.
* EmigrantDirect.com
* Tempur-Pedic

Equifax is one of the "Big Three" credit reporting agencies. I sent an email to their Media Relations contact, David Rubinger .

Life Quotes, Inc. appears to be part of Quotesmith.com, Inc., which runs www.insure.com, a "comprehensive online customer insurance information service that caters to the needs of self-directed insurance shoppers." The two contacts that I sent an email to are the Vice President of Sales, Brian Gibson , and the Executive Vice President and COO, William V. Thomas .

EmigrantDirect.com is a subsidiary of Emigrants Savings Bank. I could not find any contact information other than their main helpdesk

Tempur-Pedic is the miracle NASA mattress people. I sent my email to them at

Here is the email that I sent:

Dear :

I was shocked and dismayed to hear on the November 8th edition of "The Radio Factor", the following statement made by host Bill O'Reilly:

"And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead."

Furthermore, I was shocked to discover that you are a sponsor of a radio program that stated its support of an al Qaeda terrorist attack against the city of San Francisco, and doubly shocked that Mr. O'Reilly would single out the Coit Tower, which was built as a memorial to firefighters and other first responders.

Mr. O'Reilly's comments only have one outcome, and they only serve one purpose - they further the terrorist's resolve against the United States and embolden them.

I am bringing this to your attention because it is public knowledge that your company sponsors this radio program, and pro-terrorist comments such as those made by Mr. O'Reilly will negatively impact your company's sales. As a matter of principle, I for one will choose to purchase products from your competitors, until such time that you end your support of radio programs that endorse terrorist attacks against the United States of America.

Sincerely,

We must knock O'Reilly off the air. This is not censorship, but rather the protection, nay, the salvation of public discourse. As long as O'Reilly is free to dissemble, lie, manipulate the truth in order to push his agenda, which we now know includes asking the terrorists to attack his enemies, America is weakened.

We must be strong, together. We must eradicate this cancer..

Unfortunately, I agree with the Cronkite vision. THEY have managed to so completely Cheney up so much in such a relentless fashion that I have to reconsider my assumptions of incompetence. If their goal was destruction, they've been very effective.

Let's assume victory in at least one house next year. I've been underwhelmed by the so-called "Democratic Contract with America". The very worst thing about it is that it seems to promise lots of expensive new programs, but says nothing about how we're to pay for it. And the pathetic ziz-zag and slop about "metrics" in Iraq: if you can't say something sensible and responsible, don't say anything.

One of the things Walter mentioned has been on my mind a lot lately. The highway and rail infrastructure are falling into disrepair. America needs well paying jobs. I contend that large scale employment producing policies should be a part of that contract. I don't know the numbers, but it seems simple math to realize that you get a lot more jobs, by paying $45,000/yr each for them than by sending a tax break of $500,000 to a plutocratic family, which seems to have resulted, during the Bush "Job incentive" tax plan, in the same single job.

The American economy is built on consumption. That may not be the best model, but that's what our economy needs. If 3,000,000 new jobs were created in the consturction/reconstruction of new energy, transportation and even REAL homeland security, at an average salary of $45,000, that would cost about $150 billion, including costs for administration. That would also ensure that the salaries, about $135 Billion would enter the economy as tax income back to the government. Hundreds of thousands of families would have much more to spend, which would help create new jobs. I used the arbitrary number of 3 million just to be "conservative". Three million per year seems sustainable for at least a few years. At the end of a first, Gore term, such a program could have lifted more than ten million families out of poverty or fiscal danger. We'd also have usable roads and rail travel, we could be well on the way to re-creating our energy distribution and generation systems.

It seems a good Democratic proposal to help more citizens find work and health care coverage. The middle class is literally the ocean which, when it is rising raises all boats together. The greatest damage the Bush administration has done to our economy is has been the assault on the middle class. More than 3.5 million families dropped into poverty under George III. Most lower-to- middle income people have seen their buying power dwindle, costs soar and long term security becomes increasingly tenuous.

A jobs program, inspired by the WPA but obviously, brand new, would be an excellent first step to restoring a prosperous and confident middle class. It also speaks to many of our core values, that government is part of the SOLUTION, not the problem. What counts is integrity and competence in its administration. Democrats care about working families and a strong economy, Republicans want a dependent, servant class.

It's time to roll back ALL of the Bush tax cuts (or as much as possible) and use the revenues on programs which actually HELP Americans, not which rob and threaten their rights as free citizens. The rich were still very rich under the tax structure during the Clinton Era. The current Republican "leadership" has engaged in what I would once have considered an impossibly repellant display of sheer greed and amorality. And BOY, is it long past time to remember that government is supposed to REGULATE the commerce in this country, including the corporate media, not aid it in avoiding taxes, responsibility and liability.

The battle has been uphill for five years. For the first time in five years, I have hope again, especially when I read articles like the following:

Carter Rails Against Bush During Book Tour
Sat Nov 12

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Former President Jimmy Carter questioned the direction of the country and sharply criticized the Bush administration in a book tour stop here.

"Everywhere you go, you hear, 'What has happened to the United States of America? We thought you used to be the champion of human rights. We thought you used to protect the environment. We thought you used to believe in the separation of church and state,'" the Nobel Peace Prize winner said Friday at Unity Temple. "That's not the case anymore."

Carter is promoting "Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis." It is his 20th book, but Carter says it's his first political one.

"I felt so disturbed and angry about this radical change in America that I have always loved and still love," he said.

Referring to his latest book's title, Carter said the Bush administration is responsible for the country's moral crisis. He railed Bushs pre-emptive war policy; the erosion of the church-state separation; a ballooning budget deficit; inadequate attention to the environment; and the use of torture against some prisoners.

"This administration has injected into the American political system a dramatic, unprecedented and profound change in the basic values of our national policy," Carter said.

Methodist Bishops Repent Iraq War 'Complicity'
Thursday, November 10, 2005
By Kaukab Jhumra Smith

WASHINGTON — Ninety-five bishops from President Bush's church said Thursday they repent their "complicity" in the "unjust and immoral" invasion and occupation of Iraq.

"In the face of the United States administration's rush toward military action based on misleading information, too many of us were silent," said a statement of conscience signed by more than half of the 164 retired and active United Methodist bishops worldwide.

President Bush is a member of the United Methodist Church, according to various published biographies. The White House did not return a request for comment on the bishops' statement.

Although United Methodist leadership has opposed the Iraq war in the past, this is the first time that individual bishops have confessed to a personal failure to publicly challenge the buildup to the war.

O’Reilly not only stood by his comments, but claimed they “needed to be said”:

"I mean, look, everybody knows what’s going on there. What I said isn’t controversial. What I said needed to be said. I’m sitting here and I’m looking at a city that has absolutely no clue about what the world is. Yet the left-wing, selfish, Land of Oz philosophy that the media and the city politicians have embraced out there is an absolute intellectual disgrace."

O'Rielly evidently has crowned himself judge and jury for the residents of SF. No clue? Intellectual disgrace? Boycott the bastards who support such hate speech. I agree with The Truth, send those letters. He has made it easy for us, now just do it.

From Pax Americana to Pox Americana. We are heading straight towards the iceberg at full speed.

I’m sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
I’ve had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

Who is it that tells us time and time again that we use hate speech? Your right. The f**ing trolls. I have never heard any liberal suggest we blow anything up, or kill anyone, or give the terrorist a map to Coit Tower. We are becoming a Nation of hate, and we have the far-right GOP to thank for this demise.

Now we're getting to the crux of the matter. It might make sense strategically to blame our impending catastrophe on Bushco, but who exactly placed him in office?

A majority (or thereabouts) of American boobs knowingly supported and voted for this clown show in 2004. Sure, some states (like Ohio) had extraordinarily corrupt election practices (which are now unreformable), but it's extremely likely that Bush won the popular vote.

And to the extent some percentage of the boobs are now concerned and would like to see a change in direction, state election machinery is rigged in favor of Republicans and their party cannot be defeated.

Declining powers cannot reform themselves, as their corrupt elites block and frustrate any attempts at reform.

So push those touch screens all you want---order your Happy Meal----but without the ability for a court to look at actual ballots, the system cannot be trusted, and we have plenty of evidence that something fishy is already occurring.

The sad thing is if o'reilly was standing on a street corner saying this stuff, he would be considered a nut. Yet he has a national audience who eats this stuff up. It truly is a sad day in The United States of America.

Pessimist: Of course you're right, but I think there's a logic at work. Corporate pillage is a way for the current flock of thugs under Cheney and Rumsfeld to bring total chaos to the middle east, dissolve any functional duties of the UN, and crush international opposition to expanding the borders of Isreal. Maybe the Isrealis have finally had enough of Sharon and his advance guards in Washington. But that won't stop the rush to dismantle the post WWII order. As long as there is war, there will be very sick profits. As long as there are obscene profits, the Likud will remain in power.

America has always been anathema to the world's intellectuals. Common folks from around the world can't wait to get here though - they want to come here in droves.

I love it that you allow a multimillionaire like Cronkite pass you a tear filled beer. Woe is me - you can only do think read say write speak anything you want to here. It's hell on earth. It's torture! Help! I can talk trash about Bush all day long and they won't even throw me in jail - see? the government just doesn't care!

I, like you, long for the incredibly effective days of the Jimmy Carter military strike and of course, his special touch with Iranian terrorists. Glad he dealt with them so forcefully back then - otherwise we'd have an Iran totally out-of-control by now.

Here's a project for all of you's: try to forward an argument not eyeball deep in misrepresentation. Cheers.
