It is very good news.

We all knew the Republican coalition would start to fracture in a second term. The only real question was whether it could hold together until mid-terms. I think it was really DeLay's legal troubles that answered "no."

Just think how much harder this would have been for Pelosi had the Delay/Rove/Abramoff illegally funded Texas redistricting stunt not occurred. Those conservative democrats who were reliable swing votes for republicans not around to play anymore.

What poetic justice.

Wonderful news! Now let us really after those bastards in 2006 and clean up both Houses -- and then the White House.

Let the deficits rip.

Let the deficits rip.

Indeed.

If only George Bush wasn't starving the government of funds via tax cuts wrecklessly passed without any consideration of the fact that congress would be incapable of cutting spending to the bone.

The dificts ripped when Bush became President and NOW you care?

What does Boones Farm qualify as?

Posted by Flamethrower at November 17, 2005 02:01 PM

Now if we can just get those chardonnay swilling moderate Republicans to leave the Dark Side, and come on over to the bright side of the road . . .

We could see Speaker Pelosi very soon, impeachment hearings shortly thereafter, and President Pelosi before you know it.

What does Boones Farm qualify as?

Swill.

Posted by dry and happy at November 17, 2005 06:11 PM

To paraphrase Billmon, "this wouldn't have happened if Tom Delay were still alive".

Heh. Good times.

Posted by ran at November 17, 2005 07:58 PM

President Pelosi before you know it.

Has a nice ring to it eh?

Ick. It's nearly 11:00 p.m. PST, and I just finished watching the House debates and votes on the House ReCONciliation bill cutting $50+ billion from "entitlement" programs. To fund the continuing tax cuts to the top .02% of American tax "payers". It was like watching a dog fight between a chihuahua and a presa canero. After an excruciating 15 minute vote, it turned out as 217 yeas and 215 nays. Two uncounted Democratic votes hung in the air uncast (according to C-SPAN broadcast). It was disgusting, like watching that woman being torn apart in her hallway in the San Francisco a few years back. I have to go take a shower in lighter fluid now. Who were those two Dems who didn't vote? A disgusting spectacle. Donald Cormac

Let the deficits rip.

Too bad we didn't have some fiscally responsible Democrats like Clinton in power any more. Just borrow and spend Publicans supplying corporate welfare and massive tax cuts to their wealthy "base" at the expense of the average american.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to support these people if you weren't obscenely rich yourself, and had no qualms about shafting the rest of America so you could get that extra Hummer in the driveway*. It's too bad that the jeebo-fascists and the radical wrongwingnuts have been been drinking Grover Norquist's kool-aid for so many years...

* - double entendre intended.
