Yeah, but Rummy's plan is a Republican Plan, even though it pretty much dovetails with Kerry's plan. That's a key difference. Just like how the Warner amendment in the Senate was a lot like the Levin amendment, but the Republicans voted the Levin amendment down while stampeding only moments later for the Warner amendment. Who cares if all the good ideas are coming from the Dems? As long as good Republicans can rip them off and repackage them they get credit for them - which is exactly how Bush governed Texas.
Posted by Beacon at November 19, 2005 12:38 PMIn order for the troops to be withdrawn, all congressional and senate members of both parties must put aside their worries about re-election, and think only of the troops and the country.
Far too many representatives are sitting on a fence, not wanting to sound "unpatriotic". What has the war in Iraq got to do with patriotism? Iraq did not attack the US, they are a third world country that's really messed up. Anyway, time for the reps to suck it up and vote to bring the troops home. If the simple logic and inherent rightness of the move doesn't persuade them, the billions of dollars saved surely must.

[Editor: ignore=off]Bendito:
Yeah, only real heros inject American forces into a hostile land where they're sure to create an entire new generation of enemies, giving us a perpetual excuse to send young men and women overseas to die. You fucking pussy.
Posted by Saladin at November 19, 2005 03:42 PMSo you're cutting and running, Benditto? Your Repug buddies will be awfully disappointed.
What part of saving thousands of young American lives, and billions of US taxpayer dollars, do you object to? Have you received a Christmas card from an Iraqi thanking you for your selfless funding and the wonderful society that has been created as a result?
Posted by tempus at November 19, 2005 03:46 PMI hereby guarantee that the Bush Administration will begin some kind of "withdrawal" of troops ( "Iraq forces are substantial control of many areas of Iraq and there fore we can re-deploy") before the 2006 Elections. Mark it, take it to the bank. But by then, Bush will have killed more GI's in Iraq than Americans that died in 9/11. On November 4th, brigades will be re-deployed back to Iraq and the war will continue until 2008.
Posted by T2 at November 19, 2005 04:30 PMWhat is coming in an election before too long is the "stab in the back" GOP campaign. Bush will be protrayed as a great visonary leader and any future middle east problems will be blamed on the liberals "stabbing the great president" in the back. And hacks like Bendito will eagerly join the chorus.
Posted by rlp at November 19, 2005 04:50 PMT2, agreed, except one thing: the troops won't be redeployed back to Iraq. They'll be used to attack Iran. Gotta come from somewhere.
Posted by Real Tough Cookie at November 19, 2005 05:05 PMI'm pretty dense, so I'm just now figuring out why the Republicans hated Clinton so much. It really had nothing to do with Clinton, as Clinton. They slime and trash anyone who isn't one of them. It became specially intense with Clinton because he was in their sights for 8 years. It's almost reducible to a math formula. For any object x that stands in their way, they respond with vitriol and character assassination, squared by the amount of time they remain focused on x.

Posted by goose1 at November 19, 2005 06:49 PMfuck off "bendito" and eat Schmidt's pussy
Posted by godman at November 19, 2005 07:57 PM"Bendito" only exists to get you all riled up. Whether that is good or bad doesn't matter.
Maybe we can look at this: Murtha finally called out Cheney, and to a certain extent Jr., and finally all of the adminstration. They, to a man (Colin Powell is gone), never served any active duty. They led this country to war. They call one who volunteered to go to war a coward. They then plan to emplement exactly the "coward's" plan. And the public will eat it up.
Perhaps someone here can convince me that my cynicism is unwarranted.
Posted by dorita at November 19, 2005 08:24 PMDorita: sorry, your cynicism is very warranted. Wish it weren't so.
