Bush's Weapons Whitewash

Posted by at December 6, 2005 09:51 PM

I was watching C-span 2 this afternoon. It was about a hearing on the response of FEMA and government to Katrina disaster. They were in 2 groups of 1) plain folks: New Orleans evacuees, 2) educated black Americans New Orleans and Newport News citizen.
What came out at the beginning was that the people were mistreated but the scary part was what they were saying. After the Hurricane was over, they heard a big boom that sound like an explosion before the water rush in. The feeling I was getting out of it, was that the levy was destroyed to save the white neighborhood. It had happen before. They talked about the killing that happens in the week after by the police and military. Today they are loosing everything as they are unable to find housing. They mention that they have heard that there was a plan of getting rid of their poor? Blacks are unable to go back even where their housing where not in the flooded area to find the locks change and their belonging on the street.
The second groups brought expertise on the aftermath of what the first groups mentioned the shooting of innocents, the looting and the forgotten dead. How many people really died in New Orleans? No one knows.
One talked that one engineer he knows had mentioned that could not think about any reason that could have brought the levy down when they had survived the hurricane. Not one! That person said that if they were allowed to be able to the levy they would pay the cost to check if there was a crater inside that proved it was a man made disaster.
The all hearing left more question unanswerable. Does anyone have heard anything like this?

I would put fort the “ # Pennsylvania Ave WMD imagination”.

The WHIG Memo: (White House Information Group formed August, 2002)

"Sept. 6, 2002: In an interview with the New York Times, Andrew Card did not mention the WHIG specifically but hinted at its mission. Card said "From a marketing point of view, you don't introduce new products in August." On September 17, 2002, Matt Miller stated on NPR that the above quote from Andrew Card was in response to the question: ... why the administration waited until after Labor Day to try to sell the American people on military action against Iraq."

The members of the White House Iraq Group were:

* Karl Rove
* Karen Hughes
* Mary Matalin
* Andrew Card
* James R. Wilkinson
* Nicholas E. Calio
* Condoleezza Rice
* Stephen Hadley
* I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby

Downing Street Memo may be catchy, but I think it remains meaningless in the mainstream. What was that about? Too complicated for most readers to absorb, I think. Protocol is another estoteric term really. Disinformation Campaign is better, but the word disinformation has at least two, and maybe three too many syllables.

The word "code" (or codebook) would be easier for general consumption and has that 24, Lost, Alias, Sleeper Cell cache that general audiences can can relate to. Not very clever, but a sixth grade word would be more mainstream than anything with more than two syllables.

Posted by ccmask at December 7, 2005 06:31 AM

i dont have a specific sugestion, just a general one:

to fit the spirit of this adminstrations attitude toward (mis)(dis)informing the public about their plans , this phrase should have an orwellian, 1984ish air to it. you know, using "black" to mean "white". or "hot" to mean "cold"

a definiinjg characteristic of the bush administration and the republican radicals is the use of words and phrases to hide their (the administration's intent.

thus we have :

"no child left behind" ( a program that called, among other things, for retention-in-grade of children who could not pass minimum testing standards

"clear skies" act which allowed electric power generators and others to continue to pour particualtes and chemicals into the the air.

so how about it

what's a good upside down phrase for gettomg the public to buy the admin's war-in-iraq product?

Posted by orionATL at December 7, 2005 06:38 AM

Another vote for WHIM -- White House Iraq Memo

Here's why:
-- "Memo" easy to build around, as we did with Downing Street Memo (ex: "Did you get the Memo?")

-- parallel construction to the Downing Street Memo; the title points out the source and the document type, with the added bonus of defining the focus

-- We call it "White House Iraq Memo" in all communications, but we on this side of the fence have known it all along as a WHIM (heh)

-- Keeps it simple; the wingers will use the same label since there is no obvious bias in the label, will reinforce its use (and we'll be laughing at the irony of their talking about the WHIM)

Yeah. I like it! (says the person who first used "Did you get the memo?" on the Downing Street Memo)
