Shorter Bendito:

*breathtaking example of crass misinterpetation in the service of myopia*
*evangelical sermonizing*

Which is a real change actually. Usually he only posts with one hand on the word generator, while using the other to salute his framed pictures of the bow-tied brethern.

Posted by idiosynchronic at December 13, 2005 06:23 AM

To be spiritual brothers, men must have a common Father. While each and everyone is exhorted to join the family of God the Father through faith in Jesus Christ, many obstinately remain the children of another.

Nice how you omitted Jews, Bendito. Clearly, you think they can't be "spiritual brothers" to you because they don't believe that Jesus was God's son.

Posted by ann at December 13, 2005 06:27 AM

Of course it does Jesus. We have killed many millions in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Toast.

Posted by tempus at December 13, 2005 07:50 AM

Go back and take apart the word 'religon', it's a man thing. Something man does, to bind God back to us. I'd prefer the spiritial aspect, it's something God does, to bind us with God. Pessimist sure seems to be playing the Grinch here.

Merry Christmas one and all.

When fundamentalists in the United States start kidnapping people because of their country of origin, or their religion, and threaten to behead them or hang them for one of those two reasons, give me a call.

When fundamentalists in the United States start torching 500 cars every night in order to demand government subsidies, give me a call.

To think that Salafists in the Middle East are the same as fundamentalists in the United States is delusional.

Good Job!

When fundamentalists in the United States start kidnapping people because of their country of origin, or their religion, and threaten to behead them or hang them for one of those two reasons, give me a call.

What a straw man of an argument. When the rule of law has completely collapsed, the government is unable to keep security and armed extremist militias are able to do their bidness at will, 'then give you a call.'

What utter bullshit. You won't be the solution, you'll be part of the problem, Gabe.

Posted by idiosynchronic at December 13, 2005 08:30 AM

peter, the concept of god is a man-made thing in an attempt to explain stuff that man can't explain and to stave off the fear of death. The concept of religion is a man-made thing to harness the power of that fear of death and the unknown to control the masses.

Posted by iamcoyote at December 13, 2005 08:32 AM

Religion should remain at the place of worship and should never be allowed to interfere in government, schools, etc. If not, it becomes a hindrance to progress. As you can see in the world, all prosporous countries have adopted secularism. Turkey, the most advanced muslim country, is a secular country and not an islamist.

As a former southern Baptist sunday school teacher, it took me a long time to get to this point, but the one thing I've found almost organized religions to have in common when they have unrivled cultural-political domanence in a society is the belief that they have the exclusive pipeline to the god(s) and all others must be converted or killed to satisfy the devil in their own souls.

You shiteating puke. I don't give a fuck about elections anymore. I want justice. I want criminals punished, and I want their enablers to suffer.

The GOP isn't interested in being "friends" with those of differing opinions. The GOP is interested in destroying those of differing opinions. That is the goal. Its the fascism, stupid. Its not about honest debate. Its about greed and oppression via treason and slander. To that I say: Fuck off, and bring it on.

Unfortunately for you, GOP fellator, I'm onto your designs, and I will reject you with extreme prejudice. You motherfuckers are TRAITORS to the Constitution of this nation, and you'll be dealt with accordingly.

The time for civil disagreement ended when you manufactured a war and rigged the elections and planted propaganda and pissed on the Constitution and disgraced this nation. Its "anything goes" now, asshole, and its your fucking fault.

As far as Christianity is concerned, I still have many friend who are people of faith that are lifelong Democrats. Admittedly, they may be in the minority of Democratic Party makeup. We Republicans don't see our spiritialism as a mono party endorsement. At least this one doesn't.

BTW, I'm not envoking 9/11 as a cause, it's a descripter for Democrats. 9/11 Democrats can still be friends and fellow Americans. 12/12 Democrats are people like yourself "god of war", who are perminently disabled to have reasonable descussions with. People who's only recourse is to denigrate into the name calling you have.

I'm glad to see the likes of Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama rising to the top of the Democratic Party. Reasonable people like them are representative of 9/11 Democrats. You're more representative of the 12/12 Democrats out there. The Party will go down the drain following Der Chairman Howard Dean's mouth. Fortunately Rahm has been able to put a damper on Dean somewhat. Both Rahm and Steny Hoyer that is.

Most major religions have the same theme: Love one another and treat others as you wish to be treated and care for those who need some caring.

Unfortunately, it has been my experience, that most organized religions corrupt their teachings by cherry picking the writings in order to gain control over people.

Extremes in any religion can only lead to hatred....'you're either wit us or aginst us'

Spirituality is much different. I would tend to believe that of the 80% of people who consider themselves christian (as per earlier arguments,)most aren't the extremists. I would also believe that since only 45% of the 80% are members of churches, that most of the 35% who say they are christian but do not practice in traditional ways are more Spiritual than religious and therefore not a threat. I think that it is the 8-16% that are fundamentalists that are dangerous - the fundamentalists, to me, are the ones to be feared, but they are a minority.

I believe that most people are moderate in their religious views. I think that moderation in itself is a more tolerant way of living with others.

I might actually more moderate in my political view than I seem - but the right is so far right that I look almost socialist.

It's code phrasing, peter, designed to make the speaker look more important and belittle the listner. I know that crap, inside and out, from being a tech support honcho and watching my team members use it when intimidating their customers.

Let's be honest, Peter's not a right-spinning wingnut, but a far more dangerous animal: The DLC LIEberator. He's the little jackal that professes Democrtaic membership but despises anything left-ward of his "moderate" cloaked right-wing stances. He prefers chewing on his own party members rather than assaulting GOP positions. His Big Tent isn't a statement of tolerance for a diverse party, but something he gets when in affectionate contact with Republicans.

dorita, well, duh....

Posted by avaroo at December 13, 2005 01:36 PM

Your mistake, avaroo, is that you think you didn't make a mistake.

Let's review:

You said: I've heard of Freudian slips but calling yourself "God of War" while doing everything you can to live the part is more than a slip.

Now, according to answers.com, a Freudian slip is defined as "A verbal mistake that is thought to reveal an unconscious belief, thought, or emotion."

While GoW may make a few verbal mistakes of the vulgar variety (and he has acknowledged that in our profanity thread), his beliefs and emotions are definitely not unconscious nor unclear in any way. And, as you have stated, you agree that GoW's name perfectly reflects his demeanor.

Therefore, your use of the phrase "Freudian slip" to describe GoW's choice of name was either an attempt to look smart, (sadly, it accomplished just the opposite) or you don't know what the phrase means (which is obvious, since you're defending yourself by digging a deeper well of stupidity), or both. Your final, incomprehensible comment bears this theory out, I think.

Thomas Ware, you and everyone else are falling for exactly what the cabal wants. Blame everything on Christians. It happened once before when Germany blamed the Jews for their problems. I have never heard such hate speech coming from someone on this site. I am not going to let that comment go by without a response.

I am one of those Christians animals you are willing to shoot. Yes, there are those who are zealots, but they are in a small majority of Christians. You dear friend, are broad stroking the brush to include all Christians, and you are way off base obviously due to your lack of knowledge on the subject. To figure out the big code:

12/12 was the day that the Supreme Court decided the 2000 election; therefore when all of the Dems (according to Peter)decided to hate the right. Which is simply not true - however this is his reference.

9/11 was apparently when the 'good' Dems (again, according to Peter) gave up that hatred and the country was united.

All of this bogus reference and Peter's big code and bullshit aside...for the entire country's sake - Dems and Republicans alike - 12/12 and 9/11 were both disastrous days in our nations history and to tie them to 'good Democrats and bad Democrats' as you have, Peter, is disgusting.
