Oh please! Ion Sancho will find a severed horse head in his bed, cough up the requisite mea culpa, beg forgiveness for impugning Diebold's reputation and all will be right with rigged electioneering in Leon County again. Election supervisor, in Florida? Oxymoron was never better defined.
Posted by steve duncan at December 13, 2005 07:50 PMIt would be poetic justice, irony and all the other appropiate adjectives if the beginning of the end of this nightmare occured in Talahassee. After all, this is where it really began. The electorial dispute between Bush and Gore led to Florida not being allowed to conduct its own recount and have the final tally certified in the state capital, as every other state with a similar dispute had constitutionally done before.
What goes around really does come around- morally and geographically.
Posted by rlp at December 13, 2005 07:54 PMhopefully (but not likely) this get shouted out all over the MSM. It is one of the most fundamental fibers of our country to have fair elections. Diebold is made to steal...
Posted by arkybarky at December 13, 2005 08:10 PMNote that this was NOT a DRE system which already is known to be a problem because it doesn't create a paper receipt - it was a standard optical scan system which are used in many, many states. This is huge news. Really nice work on the part of Jim Marsh and crew.
Posted by Mary at December 13, 2005 10:38 PMSteve, I know Ion Sancho personally and I know he is a fine stand up person and faced criticism for bringing in the Black Box organization to test the machines. He was elected to his position with an overwhelming majority of Leon County voters who are NOTORIOUSLY Democrats. He has stoof firm in the contoversy of the 2000 and 2004 elections. I can ASSURE you that this man did his best to safeguard every person's right to vote in Leon County and his integrity could not be bought or traded.
Please see blog http://sendthelesbianstocanada.com
And another problem we have here in Florida is the Republican controlled Congress. This year they let a bill die in committee that would assure voters that paper ballots would be kept for every electronic vote. For some reason the Rethuglicans don't want Floridian votes to count. There is a lawsuit from Volusia County(lots of fraud there back in 2000)to make this the law. We are going to win back Florida and drive outh the Bushistas!

Law firm says filed suit against Diebold
Tue Dec 13, 2005 8:35 PM ET
NEW YORK, Dec 13 (Reuters) - A law firm said it filed suit on Tuesday against Diebold Inc. (DBD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) alleging the voting-machine maker lacked sufficient internal controls, was unable to be confident in the quality of its voting machines and made misleading statements about its condition.
Gee, that's funny, I just checked many of the MSM web pages headlines and the only thing I saw about elections had to do with Purple fingered Iraqi's and how wonderful things will prolly be (another turning point)after the elections are held...deja vu all over again from purple finger election last January...when will the msm learn not to use Bushco talking points about this election...they are so predictable and always just a retread of the ones we heard last time.
Did I mention how much I dislike the msm?
As for the 2000 election results, well we know for certain that the only vote that really counted ended up being 5-4 Bush over Gore (even know the candidate for which every Supreme voted for). They said it was a one time decision...but one time was all they needed to install the WORST. pResident. EVER!
Posted by emal at December 14, 2005 04:54 AMThe Ohio Senate is about to vote
on whether to forbid recounts
in federal elections. (House Bill 3)
It would also exempt electronic
voting machines from public
scrutiny. Nice combination.
It already passed in the House.
Republican Governor Taft can be
counted on to sign this odious
bill.
Folks, if you know anyone who
lives in Ohio who still believes
in a free country, please call
them, ask them to contact their
state senator.
If this was a nation of thinking human beings, Diebold would have been run out of town on a rail long ago. but since America became a land of brainless zombies in 1980, I doubt that even FAUX 'News' could reach those mental losers who still support Owwer Leedur with this story.
Posted by pessimist at December 14, 2005 05:55 AMConnecticut is in the process of selecting electronic voting machines, Diebold is in the mix. I have been frantically writing to people about this. This story is timely and helpful. Many I have written to say things like "Yeah, we've been hearing stuff like that..."
That koolaid must be *really* tasty...
Posted by Johnny Redd at December 14, 2005 06:11 AMlive with technology, die with it. This story is good, but what needs to accompany it is a complete listing of all Florida and Ohio precincts that used this exact kind of vote machine in 2000 and 2004. And the results from those precincts/machines compared with pre-election polls....Eriposte..this sounds like a job for you!

What the hell is happening in this country??? This is unbelievable. Where are the democrats? Where is the media? How can this happen???
Here's an article about it.
The end of Democracy in Ohio?
I love Bev Harris & BBV.
This is completely theoretical - but what is it going to take for the political establishment and the media to finally wake up and pay attention? Is it going to take a Democratic Secretary of State cozy with a electronic voting company to be elected Govenor by 4 points after exit polling made him out to be the 4 point loser?
Posted by idiosynchronic at December 14, 2005 06:47 AMI have one question. Where are all those "patriotic" Fox News watchers? You know, the ones that say we are the unpatriotic traitors. One would think that O'Rielly, Rush, etc., would be up in arms about voter fraud. The silence is deafening.
Posted by Judith at December 14, 2005 08:57 AMFox watchers are well aware that "vote fraud" means "Republican victory" in the current American constellation.
Posted by euzoius at December 14, 2005 07:13 PMOh, I see. Voter fraud is okay if Republicans win. And they call us unpatriotic and traitors. Fucking unbelievable!
Posted by Judith at December 14, 2005 08:29 PMOK, all CA residents of the Left Coast: let's embarass Sec St Bruce McPherson into doing proper tests of the machines before he rams certification through. The Leon County episode provides the basis. For contact information for McPherson and relevant CA papers, check out this link and the attendant comments.
Let's roll calguys and calgals!
