Comments: Open Thread - Koufax Awards Time

Steve, you lazy bastard, give us some links to bombard Wampum with! :) (I'll start doing it in a few minutes as I fill in my nomination . . )

Posted by idiosynchronic at December 16, 2005 06:34 AM

Here's my copy:

Yes - there is some bias in my nominations, but I'm still making them. So there.

Best Blog Community - this is a tie between My Left Wing and Street Prophets. Both are hot tubs o' good vibes. (And in MSOC's case, scathingly refreshing rants)

Best Writing - Athenae at First-Draft. She writes not only incisive commentary on the media having been a print journalist, but the quality of her overall essays about life, marriage, and her obsession with Battlestar Galactica & Katee Sackhoff is to die for.

Best Series - Eriposte's current reseach into WMDgate is finally gaining Eri the respect he or she deserves. Since being added to The Left Coaster, Eri's meticulous research and multiple series of exposes on the Bush White House and the media have been at the cutting edge of blogging.

Best Group Blog - I've been hanging around The Left Coaster for the last 2 (or more) years. They've never been better, and they're a better pure blog right now than those overly popular and over-choked bigger websites.

Best Deserving of Wider Recognition - Eriposte for the same reasons mentioned above, & because that man or woman spanks the pants off of journalists and other bloggers.

Best New Blog - Street Prophets, because it's about damn time that a site unafraid of speaking about religion and liberal politics has finally appeared. PastorDan and his crew are building something that I hope will be major force of awareness and faith in liberal politics for the next several years. (I just wish I could post more often!)

For what, calling Steve out for what he is? Or for not sucking up enough to you two? Sheesh.

Friends, loyal LeftCoats-ters, lend me your fingers!

Prefferably not your middle ones.

Steve:

I voted as you proposed.

Sorry to change the subject, but this is OT and I am outraged by this (not that there aren't a million things to be outraged about.)

Just last week the US walked out of climate change talks in Canada.

Then I came across this.

Which makes me very sad, but the Bush administration does not care about the destruction of the planet, there are no long range views on anything - just instant gratification (unless you count the long-range thoughts of the rapture that will come soon as a result of destroying the world.)

Then there is the continued news of how GW will do whatever the f*ck he wants regardless of the rest of the world.

When are the people in this country going to wake up?

The US is continuosly becoming a rougue state. The House voted last night to study the cost of a fence around the country - including the Canadian border. Our own Iron Wall. (Possibly to keep people IN as well as out.)

What a bizarre time that we live in. Global warming, extinction of polar bears, fences around the US, a great big fuck you to the rest of the world - and most go on like it is business as usual.

Thanks for the opportunity to rant; now I can go about the rest of my day.

Our little Mucky has tried to get in on the conversation at BOPNews. If the big brains over there ever pay attention to him, they'll eat him & his 'facts' alive.

Bob Novak is going home!

The House is debating another BS resolution put on the floor by the Republican Majority to stay in Iraq for as long as it takes. More BS meaningless mumbo jumbo with no plan.

The Dems have tried to introduce legislation numerous times that reflect a serious plan and serious oversight and accountability, Republicans will not allow them to be introduced.

I've just posted the following at the Koufax Awards nominations. I think it may provide a handy consolidation of links to eR's "Uranium from Africa" series, laid out somewhat differently from eR's own consolidated Resource Page (linked to in his comment above). I left out links to anything more related to Wilson or Plame than Niger. Apologies to eR: I supplied my own titles in many cases because I thought they would make it clearer to anyone not familiar with the series what exactly the posts in question were about.

Best Series: (IMO without question) eRiposte's "Uranium from Africa" series at TheLeftCoaster, which currently represents the best and most meticulous work anywhere on the subject:

Uranium from Africa per the Official Reports:
(1) Introduction to Series; (2) Summary/Conclusion, with links to body of series, Parts 1-3; (3) Flashback: Bush Administration Statements and Actions Contradicting the 16 Words; (4) Addendum I: The ISG's Findings; (5) Addendum II: The Butler Report; (6) Additional Confirmation: The Robb-Silberman Report.

Also: (7) Did Wilson's Trip Support Claims that Iraq Had Sought Uranium?.

The Mechanics of the Niger Forgeries and Hoax:
(8) In a Nutshell: The Basic Anatomy of the Uranium Claim and its Basis, and the Mechanics of its Assertion, Retraction and/or Retention; (9) La Repubblica's Recent Revelations about the Mechanics of the Niger Forgeries and Hoax; (10) The Mechanics of the Niger Hoax: La Repubblica on the UK's "Other Source"; (11) The Mechanics of the Niger Forgeries: Series on SISMI and the 'Mainstreaming' of the Forgeries: Conclusion, with links to Introduction, Parts 1-6, and Postscripts.

Also, a useful concise summary of various matters raised in the first series is provided in the Appendix and multiple Conclusions of Part II of Q&A with Joseph Wilson.

Eriposte;

You've done such extraordinary work this year, do you have a preference in terms of which series to nominate, and might we dilute the vote by nominating you for different series? You were already on my list to nominate for best series, but I was leaning toward the Uranium/Plamegate one.

In fact, the entire blog has done extraordinary work this year.

No one replied, idio. I expected at least a "What do you mean the core rate is only .2%? That's a lie! You want proof? Rove! Diebold! Haliburton! Exxon! No WMDs!"

And lots of loud "Yeeeaaarrrrgggghs" and high-fivin' by the residents thinking that they sure showed me.

By the way, we've had 10 consecutive quarters of GDP growth over 3%. Can you name the last period that happened?

Tick-tock, Tick-tock, Tick-tock...

1986!

(Everybody wang chung tonight!)

Diebold comes to Missouri. Little by little the voting process is being taken over by Diebold. In eleven years we won't need to hold elections.
