Comments: The Republican Patronage System

I'm pretty sure there was a republican machine even before Tom DeLay.

Yes. There was Republican Machine before Delay but it did not have the passion and vigor that is now. Thanks to the religious right to inject that in this machine. You can feel the zeal and energy of the current Republican Machine when they attack their opponebts. It is like a religious crusade with no prisioners taken. This machine has taught republicans to fight every battle with 3 Gs issues, GOD, GAYS, and GUNS.

Kerry lost in OHIO because of Gay marriage issue. Democrats lose in South because republicans portray themselves as more GOD fearing pushing for prayers in schools, ten commandments in public places, etc. and ofcourse GUN lobby bankrolls them and spreads fear that Democrats will take away your guns.

They have a great formula for success and they will continue using it until it does not work.

"Yes. There was Republican Machine before Delay but it did not have the passion and vigor that is now."

hmmm, that seems a bit amnesiac. Surely the republican machine under Newt Gingrich would qualify as equally passionate and vigorous.

And the republican machine of Haldeman, Kissenger and Erlichman surely would qualify.

What about the machine under Trent Lott?

speaking of machines ... has anyone seen the reports that Microsoft and Bill Clinton are eyeing each other ... Bill to step up as Baumer retires? Friend sent me to this site, http://andyabramson.blogs.com/ I have not idea the credibility but found it interesting.
And, of yeah, Rep machine won't miss a beat, after all they have Ney coming in to give the ethics reminder seminar.

Only slightly OT: MSNBC now has a new AP/Ipsos poll showing a 2/3 preference for Democrats over Republicans in the next election cycle. Find it at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10740963/from/RS.1 (sorry, I don't know nothin' bout no linking). (:>

Kerry didn't lose Ohio strictly on the gay issue. The gun issue is huge up there.

One thing that I have not yet figured out is whether the heat of the scandals will start to burn the other half of this machine: the corporations and businesses that signed their own deal with the devil.

Doubtful. They might have to create new clever ways of doing their "bidness" but they know they can get away with more of this until they plunge the country into a massive depression. That's about all I can see that will wake up a solid majority in this country to demand that the moneychangers get out of our government.
