Comments: DeLay Resigns Majority Leader Post

House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., is reported to be vying for consideration

Can that be right? Doesn't the Speaker of the House outrank the majority leader? I understand that DeLay has been the de facto Speaker, but with him gone, Hastert could actually be the real Speaker.

Will the entire Republican house leadership change?

Wow... things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser.

I thought the repukes could have made a better choice but from a democrats stand point it's awesome. Not a very smart idea!

One neo-con down. Oh so many more to tease like cats do mice, and then eat.

Iraq put a big hole in the republi-con house. Abrimoff was like a cornice falling off. This...Delay, is like a big ass crack in the foundation. The house of cards is shuddering! Thank God for the Indian tribes giving money to Abramoff. It set this entire thing in motion. Grab an Indian and shake their hand. Hug them. Say thank you! As so often happens, they end up supporting this nation more than anyone else. My God, that's poetry.

Doesn't the Speaker of the House outrank the majority leader?
He does in terms of raw operational power (controlling what goes in and gets voted on, assigning members of committees), but the ML is the "unity" man. Denny is trying to keep his job - he is using his media-built reputation as a "nice guy" to try to move up to the position of "uniter." But Flake et al want him out of leadership altogether, bec they realize they are peas in a pod, Denny and Tom. Or perhaps more appropriately, they realize "the people" are starting to realize it's not just DeLay, but the whole leadership (esp Hastert). They worry their call for "Reform!" (a move they hope will save the midterm elections) will fail unless they have at least the appearance of "cleaning house." So they're waiting to see if Denny will play ball with their "Reform!" meme. If so, they'll shut up. Otherwise Denny'll have to smack them down. Get your popcorn.

Clearly Congressman Roy Blunt sent letters to help his buddy Jack Abramoff and his efforts to prevent new Indian Reservations from going into Louisiana.

Please read these articles and then send an e-mail or letter to the Justice Department asking them to look into these dealings, if they are not already on the top of their list of things to do!

ususally, but hastert was/is a non-entity. if he wants to be ML, it's because the GOP wants a real speaker, then denny can remain the innocuous grey thing he is.
