Arise ye starvelings [or workers] from your slumbers
Arise ye criminals of want
For reason in revolt now thunders
and at last ends the age of cant.
Now away with all your superstitions
Servile masses arise, arise!
We'll change forthwith [or henceforth] the old conditions
And spurn the dust to win the prize.
CHORUS
Then come comrades rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale
Unites the human race. (repeat).
We peasants, artisans and others,
Enrolled amongst the sons of toil
Let's claim the earth henceforth for brothers
Drive the indolent from the soil.
On our flesh for too long has fed the raven
We've too long been the vultures prey.
But now farewell to spirit craven
The dawn brings in a brighter day.
CHORUS
No saviour from on high delivers
No trust we have in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear.
Ere the thieves will out with their booty
And to all give a happier lot.
Each at his forge must do his duty
And strike the iron while its hot.
CHORUS
Posted by L. I. Beralhawk at January 7, 2006 11:12 PMAbsolutely a perfect example of how these people distort and tell out and out lies or half truths to win the likes of our resident trolls.
Posted by Judith at January 7, 2006 11:35 PMNice analysis, eriposte, of what is going on. The right wing has put themselves in the position of the kid who says to his brother "shut the door" just as the kid is shutting the door and then dances around chanting "you did what I asked you to." Its a combination of magical thinking (if no one mentions the actual facts on the ground in Iraq, we will win), arrogance, and just general hatefulness. The enemy, as always, is simply other Americans who have different policy positions. If only they were willing to attack Al Quaeda and Bin Laden with the same force--hell, even rhetorical force!--we'd already have won the "war" and they could be home snug in their houses looking for liberal bogeymen under the bed.

Posted by aimai at January 8, 2006 04:19 AMSorry for that tortured analogy with the kids and the car even if torture is Ok now it was wrong and, in fact, slightly backwards. I think I'd have to go a long way to repair it and introduce another kid or two into the scenario, plus more caterwauling by the the right wing, so I'll just give it up.

Posted by aimai at January 8, 2006 04:20 AMaimai - I understood what you were trying to say. But I don't understand the fuss. I read the comments, and it sounded the same as the regular trolls, just with a different focus. Same freakshow, different freaks.
Posted by iamcoyote at January 8, 2006 07:24 AMAny tortured analogies notwithstanding, aimai, those were some good points.
If Goldstein and his fellow Wormtongues have any guts, they'll link to and acknowledge eR's typically sharp rapier-work on their dishonest blather.
Posted by KM at January 8, 2006 08:29 AMI don't think Geraghty will mention this post.
eRiposte, great rebuttle!

I don't think you should be messing with Jeff Goldstein. He'll do some serious intellectual chop-sockey on your ass for sure.
What you (and the other pseudo smarties who swim in this blog bog) think is a clever vivisection of Goldstein is just another laughably easy hanging curveball that Jeff will metaphorically hit out of the park with both hands tied behind his typewriter.
Don't say I didn't warn ya.
I'll bet those who read Protein Wisdom are for supply side economics. Maybe they should call thir blog Golden Showers.
Posted by rlp at January 8, 2006 09:56 AMman, if anything will get the NSA on your case, it's The Internationale
Posted by benjoya at January 8, 2006 10:21 AMWell done! If Ganglial Knots could feel pain, Goldstein would be writhing in his muck at this moment. Alas. Alas.
Posted by jerry at January 8, 2006 10:31 AMAs an aside, among the many unwittingly humorous assertions made in this Goldstein fellow's post, I found especially droll his claim, as an apologist for this Administration, that its critics think "perception ... is reality" and make claims that "are almost invariably circular in nature and pinned to 'realities' that they have been at great odds to help 'create' and propagate".
As someone aptly noted on another comment thread, these guys are all about projection.
If Mr. Goldstein is really half as clever as some apparently seem to think he is, then perhaps he can join us, in one of eR's WMDgate posts, say, for an undoubtedly brief debate over statements like the (originally) italicised portion of the following:
Glenn makes this point in the context of a debate over whether it was unpatriotic for those on the Senate intel committee with access to WMD info to maintain that the President “lied” even though they knew it not to be the case.
Maybe he can invite Tom Maguire to tag along. Even pseudo-smarties like me can hope for a little fun.

(sigh) You are not worthy. Looks like Jeff will simply have to send the armadillo to deal with you...if he's sober, that is.
Posted by cellar dweller at January 8, 2006 01:14 PMNo, cellar, against such eminent worthies, clearly not. Just indulging in a little fanciful thinking. Hope you'll forgive the presumption. ;)
Posted by KM at January 8, 2006 05:36 PMHey, you "forgot" all your backup from the "Legacy" media. And if you are going to "approach" a proximate nearness to the Goldstein "wit," you must not "neglect" long intros and the use of "quotation marks" to signify that which is indicated as some one of many "indices" before you sign off. You then will be known as one worthy of receiving yet more protean whiz, dumb.
Posted by The Heretik at January 8, 2006 08:29 PMHeretik: if, as Derrida once told Gadamer, it may be entirely indeterminable whether there ever is, or could be, such an "event" as "understanding", it would "explain" my failure to "get" the "profundity" of Mr. Goldstein's powerful polemics. Get thee hence to "firedoglake".
Aside: in retrospect, I thought it best to add a link displaying the irony of Goldstein's arguments in their full glory. Edit to 11:41 am above:
