Earlier today, I was in a building where headrush-er-Rush Limbaugh was on. There was a substitute host on and while I was a part of the captive audence, all he and his callers could do is call Gore a loser. They really don't have much to fire back with.

Posted by chris at January 17, 2006 12:22 PMSome of what we have is the sworn testimony of Jamie Gorelick in front of several Congressional hearings. Does her oath mean anything, you tell me? This happened on their watch as well as others before the current admin. Nothing new, no surprises, except for y'all heralding this has been who gave up the battle over Florida. To give the presidency to George W. Bush. He gave up on you, fellow Democrats. He has given you the last five years. He will be giving you the next three years of President G W Bush. He has given you two SC Justices and 60% of the judicary being in conservative hands. Great guy, we, Republicans need more like him. Go ahead, make him your next candidate. Gore/Dean 2008 sounds so nice right now. Start contributing, I'm sure there's a site already. We welcome it.
Posted by peter at January 17, 2006 12:42 PMrip, that's 'cause that's all they've got on Gore--they couldn't attack him on policy, so they had to manufacture a 'Dean scream' type character assassination. They got a whole lot of mileage out of the 'Al Gore invented the Internet' meme, even though it turns out that he did pretty much what he said:
Net Builders Kahn, Cerf recognize Gore:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/10/02/net_builders_kahn_cerf_recognise/
also, they got some pretty big yucks a few years ago when Gore gave a big speech on global warming in New York, on one of the coldest nights of the year--haw, haw, what a dummy, brayed the know-nothings!
Like schoolyard bullies, they picked out the weak link in the smart kid in the schoolyard, and started attacking--I hope that Gore has grown a backbone and some fire in the belly during his time in the wildnerness--i'd like to see him keep kicking sand back in the bullies' faces!
Posted by leftAhead at January 17, 2006 12:47 PMSome of what we have is the sworn testimony of Jamie Gorelick in front of several Congressional hearings.
The Gorelick testimony pre-dates FISA being modified, under the Clinton administration, to include physical searches.
Posted by at January 17, 2006 12:59 PMOT- Lott's gonna run again. Pissant!
Posted by bbtb at January 17, 2006 01:21 PMPeter,
You're a filthy fucking liar. Your talking points about Clinton "violating" FISA have been refuted ad nauseum...and still you persist.
You name is certainly apt, you fucking dick.
Go slide under a gas truck and fulfill your destiny as a skidmark.
Posted by God Of War at January 17, 2006 02:03 PMConsider the fact that the World Trade Center was equivalent to a mid-size city, given the number of people employed there. If you grant me that, then the number of American cities destroyed under the Bush administration = 2.
The number of American cities destroyed under all post Civil War administrations = 0.
That's the Bush legacy.
Posted by Cookie Monster at January 17, 2006 02:08 PMAfter reading around this after noon - pun intended because I feel d-i-r-t-y - I have this impression:
Conservatives and Republicans are very scared that Al Gore may come back and kick their asses.
Because the soundbytes sound just like something we've heard before - We Love Dean! Elect Dean! We Fear Kerry! Only the names have changed.
Just look at what peter-peter-pimple-beater writes upthread: "Great guy, we, Republicans need more like him. Go ahead, make him your next candidate. Gore/Dean 2008 sounds so nice right now. Start contributing, I'm sure there's a site already. We welcome it."
I have some real concerns about Gore a run - many of which are related to the 2000 Gorebot that ran for President. But the right-spinners are certinly singing a tune that tells me that if Gore can't be the next Democratic President, he's soundling like the guy who should be.
Posted by idiosynchronic at January 17, 2006 02:08 PMGore calls AG Gonzales on his "factually wrong" response to Gores speech.
Posted by snark at January 17, 2006 02:38 PMWow, snark, that Raw Story article is awesome. Now, this is an all new Gore. I think more than set himself up to run again, maybe he's doing a greater service to the Democratic Party by calling the Bush administration out on their lies and obfuscations. And frankly, who better to do this? The Dems desperately need someone to do the speaking out who cannot be harmed by their dirty political tricks.
Posted by ann at January 17, 2006 02:44 PMMaybe having nothing to lose is what it takes to win. Our country has nearly lost everything. We need him.
Posted by Dianne at January 17, 2006 02:53 PMMaybe having nothing to lose is what it takes to win. Our country has nearly lost everything. We need him.
If he runs for office again, he will have something to lose. I think he's a strong a righteous voice, but I would hate to see him run again.
The Reps have too many dirty tricks and no morals. I don't want to see smear campaign hobble another candidate. Do you really want to hear about how Gore lied about creating the internet again? I can't do that debate again, but the Reps sure can and will.

Posted by jondee at January 17, 2006 03:11 PMThis is what Gore said,
"The threat of additional terror strikes is all too real and their concerted efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction does create a real imperative to exercise the powers of the executive branch with swiftness and agility,". . . "Moreover, there is in fact an inherent power that is conferred by the Constitution to the president to take unilateral action to protect the nation from a sudden and immediate threat, but it is simply not possible to precisely define in legalistic terms exactly when that power is appropriate and when it is not."
Remember this is the same guy that made campaign phone calls from his Vice Presidential office and claimed NO CONTROLLING LEGAL AUTHORITY.
Now he admits that this is a gray area of law, but we SHOULD INVESTIGATE IT CUZ BUSH IS A CRIMINAL..
Yeah, keep believing we are scared of Gore. Like most liberals, his words eventually catch up with his inconsistencies of logic....
One more thing, Gore said,
"A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government."
Duh, so lying under oath, a felony, is okay if its about sex or about a Democrat....or its not about breaking the law. . . or it doesn't threaten the very structure of our government...which is it?
Gees, so friggin' inconsistent....
Yeah you liberals know how to argue so well...
Ann, the problem is that no matter who runs on the Democratic ticket, they are going to be swiftboaded and smeared beyond words. That is how Republicans win elections now. Lie and steal elections.
Posted by Judith at January 17, 2006 03:24 PMCarpe, Bush said that you had to have a warrant to wiretap before he said he didn't need a warrant.

OT
On CBS tonight, connecting the Democrats to the Abramoff scandal has died. It is now being called the Republican scandal. Have I died and gone to heaven?
Posted by Judith at January 17, 2006 03:43 PMJudith and Ann,
The lies and theft work because of corporate media support (propaganda, censorship, parroting, low objectivity) and brained washed citizens (like most of the trolls that post here). The trolls don't think the fascism with hurt them.
Posted by smooth at January 17, 2006 03:51 PMCarp - Your heros have rigged the system so that these guys have to spend all thier available time trying to raise money. THEY ALL have to do it because you guys,in all your substance and profundity, believe money(ie:"speech") automatically and magically confers moral value and citizenship. Some day - probobly on your death bed - your gonna wake up to how absolutely, completely lame,or,to use your favorite adolescent metaphor, "dickless" you are.
Posted by jondee at January 17, 2006 04:58 PMJust to hear Peter and Carp here and other goppers elsewhere talk about how Gore is the wrong man with the wrong message tells me he's the perfect man to deliver the message.
Not afraid of Gore? He only outpolled their hero, you bet they're afraid of him.
Posted by rlp at January 17, 2006 05:13 PMThe beauty of a new Gore campaign would be that the lies about him have been told already...and debunked, and the only fresh material for the lying liars to work with is from the last 5 years. If it wasn't worth mentioning before 2000, why 2008? What words of his can be twisted? I think he's learned a thing or 2 in the last few years. His response to Abu took exactly how long? A lot less than Kerry's to the swiftboaters. When I listened to Gore's concession speech in 2000, even then, I don't think anyone realized (I mean, who could have) how abso-fucking-lutely CRIMINAL were the people the SCrOTUS were placing in office. I bet Gore regrets his decision to conceed "for the good of the country" in light of what has now taken place.
Posted by Sharon at January 17, 2006 05:18 PMI guess Gore was forced to concede, huh? fucking Supreme Court.
Posted by Sharon at January 17, 2006 05:32 PMGore said, "A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government." Duh, so lying under oath, a felony, is okay if its about sex or about a Democrat...Posted by Carpediem atWhat you fail to note, is that Bush's violation of American constitution law is not a "gray area" but a crime and in no way comparable to making a phone call.
You also fail to understand that Clinton's statement that is always called perjury by Republicans was not. Here is a more complete description of the testimony. Note, this testimony is tortured, it generally is, and Bush is no stranger to parsing words very carefully either. Research the way he tried to conflate Saddam and bin Laden in the pro-war propaganda.
You are ignorant of facts, law, and history.
Right wing blogs and media like Hannity and Matthews have been wetting themselves over Hillary's use of the word "plantation."
Here is the same word used in the same context by a Republican who somehow escaped their condemnation:
Newt Gingrich, just before becoming Speaker of the House, made the same comparison in 1994:
“I clearly fascinate them,” Gingrich said of the Democrats. “I’m much more intense, much more persistent, much more willing to take risks to get it done. Since they think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I’m actually willing to lead the slave rebellion.” [Washington Post, 10/20/94]
I must have emailed about 100 members of the media today. Only Olberman mentioned the Newt quote.
I was pleased to see that the President gave McClellan the okay to call Gore a Democrat with whom this Administration would love to have a debate on national security.
Good stuff.
Posted by Toby Petzold at January 17, 2006 06:27 PMOOOOOOOOOOOOOo! Dems will be Swiftboated. Is that like Judges being Borked?
No it's not. Why, you may ask...
Well kiddies it's because the Swiftboaters were the guys who were there. There were members of Kerry's command, his peers, even one from his own crew. And they told the truth, Kerry lied, staged his own films, and came back to make his political bones on the honor of service men and woemen world wide.
It is the Dems who LIE about what some one has done. It is the Dems who insist on scaring old folks. It is the Dems that want racial minorities to rely on their kind handouts (followed by a back hand) than allow them to achieve real success.
so for Mike...I'm all for Hillary using plantation. I believe she'd love to keep "those people" in their place on her plantation.
Posted by Paul at January 17, 2006 06:37 PMI'm so used to thinking of Gore in political terms ... but yesterday's speech was the least political and most American thing I've heard him do. He may be cooked politically, but yesterday he courageously, passionately demonstrated leadership and today alot of us stood a little taller for it.
Posted by mainsailset at January 17, 2006 06:41 PMI guess I like what the "cooked one" is saying compared to the milquetoast rhetoric people that are still being paid by taxpayers blather on about. I'd vote for him.
Posted by Sharon at January 17, 2006 06:47 PMLOL Toby. That would be great. We talk about where that "mushroom cloud" went! Where did Elmer Bush find those WMDs? LOL. We can talk about why the soldiers have defective body armour.
How's that hunt for WMD's in Syria going? LOL
You are absolutely a scream! And a dupe!
I'm sure you would believe anything that Scotty said.
You were even stupid enough to believe that Joe Wilson would be indicted. LOL!!!
Keep it up Toby.
baaaaawaaaaaa
LOL
Posted by Ga6thDem at January 17, 2006 06:53 PMHmm Paul don't know much do you? Did you know that the SC GOP had a Grand Wizard of the KKK as their party chairman. LOL! You guys are such screaming dupes!
I love these trolls who prove the adage "You can fool some of the people all of the time."

Posted by Judith at January 17, 2006 07:02 PMSorry, this probably belongs done on another thread; but people seem never to go down further than the top couple after 4 pm...
I thought that we could "opt out" from our kids being nabbed by the military's database after that language was slipped into the All Children Left Behind Act - not so;
they are caught up in a Pentagon Database that does not allow for removal - only put into a "suppression file" where they continue to gather data from DMV, etc.
Can anyone say "Hitler Youth"?
Those bastards.
They have to be stopped.
Posted by Anjha at January 17, 2006 07:04 PMI was pleased to see that the President gave McClellan the okay to call Gore a Democrat with whom this Administration would love to have a debate on national security.
This is why an incompetent administration with indifference to nationally security can implement policy that promoted 911, preside over the only major foreign attack on the mainland in modern U.S. history while on vacation, and subordinate national defense to special interest could be thought of as "Strong On Defense". It's absolutely mind boggling.
smooth,
They no longer have that "stong on defense" category in that favor. That belief collapsed along with Iraq, letting Osama go etc. Only a 1/3 of the country believes that now. Toby is one of the whacked out one third who thinks that as long as we are killing muslims, well, that's a good thing. After all, he's a racist who believes that all muslims are terrorists. When the Timothy McVeigh standard is applied to him, well, you can guess the answer to that.
subservient troll paul:(yes I used a small p on purpose) Ted Koepple took the "Niteline" crew to the village in Nam, and substantiated everything Kerry reported to be true, according to the villagers who still remembered the incident first hand. How much did the repub attack machine pay the "shitboaters for lies" to tell their "version" of the "truth"?
Posted by TIKI AL at January 17, 2006 08:05 PMPaul is a perfect example of no matter how much proof or facts are found, there are people who will still believe the lies they have been feed.
Posted by Judith at January 18, 2006 12:14 AMThis is somewhat off topic, but Hillary has been silent on Bush until now. How much does Bill's close "son" relationship with the Barbara and George play in her reluctance to speak out negatively about their dear Son?
Posted by Judith at January 18, 2006 12:48 AMJudith: I have had that same thought for some time. I think Bill and Bush sr. have spent hours scratching their heads simultaneously in amazement as "all the wrong moves" junior works his special magic, destroying the earth in the process. Bonding aside, November's coming, the gloves are OFF. Hope there are no more sunamis to collect for!
