Soon it will be time for me to live up to my name.
It saddens me. Five years ago I saw a future full of possibilities, a world led by a progressive if imperfect nation.
Now, I see that my future will be defined by a war with an internal enemy who will show no mercy and who will be accorded none in return.
This is a nation of laws, not of men. This is a nation governed by a Constitution, not a dictator. This is a nation that has saved the world twice, and now needs saving from traitors and criminals.
Mark my words. It will be saved.
Posted by God Of War at January 25, 2006 07:49 PMIs this to say that you believe a filibuster is off the table and highly unlikely on Alito? I haven't been listening to the ramblings of the Senators on this lately, so I was just wondering what the common consensus with the Dem. Senators is right now.
And is there any rumors on Chaffee and the two Republican Senators from Maine? Again, just tryin' to catch up on the rumorville.
Posted by MisterOpus1 at January 25, 2006 08:12 PMChaffee and the Mainers will do as KKKarl tells them to do. They are Republicans first, Americans distant second.

Posted by at January 25, 2006 08:22 PMSo far declared votes are 45 Repukes with the rubber stamp yes.
I believe it is about 28 Dems NO. The only dissenter is Dem Nelson from NE. He has declared Yea.
Filibuster is not off the table. I believe.
I will continue to call and write and fax. I will continue and everyone else should as well.
The vote has not yet been scheduled.
Two more days of floor debate.
The Repukes who have already declared a yea vote have declared that they are rubber stamps for this administration, they have not even finished listening to debate.
Now, to who is most likely to filibuster? Kerry, Boxer, Kennedy, Biden, Clinton, Schumer, Leahy???
I don't know, but let's keep calling them and demanding.
It must. They must.
The more calls and letters and faxes the better.
Fat lady has not yet sung.
This filibuster must happen.

"it is the few on the extreme left attempting to inflict their abnormality on the majority. Frankly in obstructing a vote the manic mutterers certify their hatred for the democratic process."
Given Alito's record on absolute executive authority, searches and seizures, and the right to privacy, the filibuster is the only tool the Democrats have to effectively protect the public from such a man.
But I think your comment on "hatred for the democratic process" is interesting. Let's turn back the clock to say, oh, when Clinton was President. You wouldn't happen to remember just how many of Clinton's nominee judges the GOP Senate blocked and kept in the Judiciary Committee, thus blocking a full up or down vote in the Senate, would you?
Something like 62 judges, I believe. You remember that? Boy, talk about holding hatred for the Democratic process! I mean hey, what's Bush's record of passing judges - something like 94%? That's 94% of judges that the Dems. have allowed to go through for Bush. Hell some even voted for most of those judges.
Yet you GOPers blocked over 60 of Clinton's appointees, all because you simply could block them.
Spare us your asinine bullshit about hate mongering in the Democratic process. You fucking vitriolic little GOP twits invented the concept of hate mongering.
Posted by MisterOpus1 at January 25, 2006 08:57 PMFear mongering aside, it is the few on the extreme left attempting to inflict their abnormality on the majority. Frankly in obstructing a vote the manic mutterers certify their hatred for the democratic process.

[Editor: ignore=off]KBR awarded Homeland Security contract worth up to $385M (HAL) By Katherine Hunt
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- KBR, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton Co. (HAL) , said Tuesday it has been awarded a contingency contract from the Department of Homeland Security to supports its Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in the event of an emergency. The maximum total value of the contract is $385 million and consists of a 1-year base period with four 1-year options. KBR held the previous ICE contract from 2000 through 2005. The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to expand existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs, KBR said. The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster, the company said. (emphasis added)
We'll probably soon read about a contract with Blackwater to staff the facilities.

I'm not sure if you're referring to me or GOW. Nevertheless, I find the absence of your reply to my point of your GOP blocking off 62 of Clinton's nominees in comparison to the Dems. blocking but 6% of Bush's, quite revealing.
Though not too surprising really, and actually quite typical.

You're too much. I almost feel sorry for you. You obviously have lost all your senses.
Posted by David at January 26, 2006 04:06 AMI have been kicking and screaming since 1999 and to no avail. We are in a crisis and the only solution now is to provoke a full-on constitutional crisis and lance the boil. Of course this means filibuster. Since that will probably not happen, then I will blame the spineless rats who don't stand up for democracy.
Does that mean things are hopeless? Just for the time being. All things go in cycles and although this one will take a long time to come 'round, it will in some strange guise. It may take a new party. It may take an actual revolution with all the blood and death that will incur. But it will happen.
The evil men running the country and the spineless rats refusing to defend it will reap the whirlwind. It may just take some time.
Posted by Geoffrey Knobl at January 26, 2006 06:27 AMHell, you don't even need to be a citizen without a country to find yourself in jail. Even citizens of this country can be called enemy combatants and thrown into jail without recourse under King George.
Posted by Via at January 26, 2006 06:42 AMYou forgot to add that: Alito will oversee the re-enslavement of our African-American population, outlaw Saturday morning cartoons, and run over little puppies with his SUV on the way to the court. The SUV will fly a confederate flag and if no puppies are on the streets, the Secret Service will provide them. What are you guys going to say about the next nomination? I mean you already overused all the platitudes on Roberts and Alito. Please try to think of something catchy like “Judge ______ is a bad bad bad bad bad bad man/woman and has no business sitting on the SCOTUS, a bleck yucky person and a poopyhead.” Just a suggestion.
