I think it was Conrad, not Dorgan, on the Ed Schultz show. Maybe it's both.

The goal is to get more Democrats elected this fall so that there won’t be any more Alitos.
The Democrats are so ineffectual that they deserve only contempt. How have they put themselves in this position? By listening to the siren song of the anti-war crowd. Soft on terrorism, soft on security, soft on Islamic murderers. It makes ordinary Americans distrust them.
And we should thank the bloggers, the activists, and yes, John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy for stirring up at least some pressure for a filibuster while those of us in the online community saw clearly that the Joe Bidens, Pat Leahys, Joe Liebermans, and even the Barack Obamas aren’t ready or never will be ready to fight for this party or this country.
That's a rationalization. Kerry and Kennedy didn't do jack for reproductive choice or the environment or the consumer; they just played at being genuine. Oh, and they dropped a few lines over at the Daily Kos. Big deal.
Posted by Toby Petzold at January 30, 2006 08:51 PMJames Dobson said (according to Wiki) that he would go after Nelson-NE, Nelson-FL, Conrad-ND, Bingaman-NM and Dayton-MN. On their re-election bids in 06. Only Dayton voted no on cloture.
Dobson was also said to have pulled a deal with Salazar, and he was going to make life hell for Byrd in WV. This man has to much political power for a preacher!! He needs to be stopped.
I still would like to know what was said between turdblossom and Dobson! I wonder if Dobson was supplied dirt on Senators by rove through illegal NSA wiretaps!
We are weeping with you.
Thank goodness for the clarity and guideness provided by Left Coaster writers.

Posted by canuck at January 30, 2006 10:15 PMI keep hearing the argument that supporting Dems, even anti-choice Dems, is good because they will vote with the party on issues that matter. So far, that hasn't been the case.
.
As a sentient adult woman, the party that allegedly represents me has just stated that it's 'radical' to support women's right to make our own medical and moral decisions. As a longtime activist for human rights, a party that dismisses demonstrable racist national election fraud as liberal conspiracy theory is not a party that I will support.
.
A party with an anti-choice leader who has enabled an extremist activist anti-choice justice to be seated on the SCOTUS is not a party I will support. I'd wholeheartedly support a Democratic party if such a thing existed.
.
This current group of fuckups is not that party. I will support good, strong, progressive individual candidates and progressive issues groups. When Dems show signs of being a viable opposition -- they won't take back congress in '06 -- I'll reconsider returning and giving them the kind of support that they've squandered for 10+ years. Let NASCAR dads get their back for awhile. I'm giving my aching fucking back a rest.
.
The goal is to get more Democrats elected this fall so that there won’t be any more Alitos.
Why? So even more Dems will abandon mainstream democratic values when Dobson chooses the next SCOTUS nominee? If the Dems currently in the Senate showed party unity, you'd have a point. They're willing to sell out mainstream values to appease a dangerous extremist minority that is remapping government for perpetual one-party rule that only seeks a Potemkin opposition to scapegoat. There's no logical thing to do but let these right-leaning Dems reap what they sowed and remove their liberal and progressive safety net.
.
At least Kennedy did'nt vote to give a simpleton a blank check to go to war, like all those crazed "tough on terror" hawky dems did.
Posted by TIKI AL at January 31, 2006 12:51 AMThere probably is a reasonable chance that Alito will pull a Souter. Nobody wants to be known as another Thomas.
Posted by bob h at January 31, 2006 04:25 AMJames Dobson deserves to be crucified in a vat of pigshit.
Blasphemous fuck.
Btw, Trollby, I'm not antiwar. I'm anti-idiocy. Iraq is idiocy. If you can't see the differnce, then go fuck yourself with Rove's cock. Again.

I didn't know they made Nazi uniforms for sheep. Just imagine my chagrin at so learning.
Bob Woodruff and camera operator Doug Vogt were told by their fellow reporters not to go out. They were told that what they've been hearing from the Govt lie machine about things getting better was, indeed, a lie. They had to learn the hard way.
Soft on terrorism, soft on security, soft on Islamic murderers. "Fucking Sand-Niggers! Nuke em all!" Right?
Good grief Toby, you may believe that crap but the majority of the country doesn't have the fundamentalist viewpoint that you do. Do you think that letting Osama go shoes that the GOP is strong? Do you think playing kissy fact with terrorist is strong? Man, you are one clueless bedwetting tool!
Posted by Ga6thDem at January 31, 2006 08:52 AMEven though I'm not thrilled with the way the Alito matter was handled, I called all 25 Senators who supported the filibuster, which suprisingly included Sen. Biden, to thank them. I'm going to call Sen. Chafee and thank him for his no vote on Alito.
My wish: for more backbone and better planning from our Dems. We are supposed to be the opposition party after all!!!

You have to realize that Toby has some fantasy "anti-war" left that he identifies as an enemy in his fantasy world. He should be the last one to lecture on "reproductive health." He's one of the idiots that voted for Bush. He voted for this crap but is trying to blame someone else for all the failures of Bush. It was obvious what the idiot was going to do.
I wrote: which suprisingly included Sen. Biden
Ummm... make that "surprisingly". Maybe I was so surprised that I misspelled the word?
After I posted my comment, I saw pessimist's post The Fat Lady Sang. I have no idea on organizations, but ITA leadership is needed!
