Still upset about the Colts. But if anyone deserves a win - its the Steelers.
Posted by Chris H. at February 5, 2006 02:35 PMBoth are Limbaugh fans.
Posted by Joanie at February 5, 2006 02:37 PMI'm going with the underdogs....Go Seattle! Predictions....21-17 Seattle.(I suck at these types of things). And, to be perfectly honest, if the Steelers win I won't be upset.
Posted by emal at February 5, 2006 02:55 PMI think the Seahawks will cover the spread and could possibly win. I respect both coaches, regardless of party affiliation.
Holmgren is from the Bill Walsh school. Being from west San Jose area I've always followed the former 49er's coaches and teams.
Cowher has done a great job with what is provided. Each year he seems to lose top quality players and coaches and is still able to produce a winner.
Let's hope they all come out healthy
bbtb: Seahawks will win outright.
What about dropping the penis-nose-Jesus cartoons in the red states? It seems to work on the Muslims . Still no rain in Phx.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 5, 2006 03:20 PMHow can anybody not appreciate Cowher's goofy charm? The world is full of high-achieving egomaniacs like Holmgren, but lantern-jawed, spittle-flecked characters like Cowher don't come around every day.
Posted by dj moonbat at February 5, 2006 03:47 PMSeahawks all the way, man. Lookit that pocket!
Posted by iamcoyote at February 5, 2006 04:23 PMRefs won the game. 12 against 11.
Posted by milo at February 5, 2006 06:57 PMCongrats to the Steeler fans. This makes #5 for them. Next year we need a rematch between them and Dallas for the race to title #6.
Yeah the penatly calls were a little weird but Pittsburgh still would've won. One thing Seattle needs to work on in the offseason is the 2 minute offense. That was the worst I think I've ever seen.
Posted by David at February 5, 2006 07:24 PMfrom a pittsburgher:
the pass interference call on the seahawks was close - but fair.
the call on ben's TD was okay IF crossing the plane means crossing any part of the chalk. the ball crossed the front of the chalk before he was pushed back - or at a minimum it was too close to reverse.
if i was a seahawks fan, would i bitch? probably. but i'm not.
GO STEELERS!!
as for commercials - they sucked. except for the bud commercial with the pony pulling the wagon. that was cool (notwithstanding the nonsensicality of an animal *wanting* to be a beast of burden).
and the half time show - i watched the Kitty Half Time Show on Animal Planet. Much more entertaining than the Stones.
Unsurprisingly, I'm in diagreement with David! Seattle was robbed, probably the refs were working for Diebold. I mean, really, they call the QB for blocking below the knees when he's trying to make a tackle? 15 yards really changed the field position on that drive. And that holding penalty takes away a touchdown, there wasn't any holding and wasn't the Steeler offsides anyway?
I was rooting for Seattle, mainly because it irks me to no end when the talking heads blather on about one side and how deserving they are and dis the other side completely. And al michaels makes me want to hurl sharp objects, disgusting bush lovin twerp. Madden I can take, even if he is a Raider, but michaels has got to go.
And why is The Bus more deserving than Hasselback, or Alexander, or any other player on the field? Just because he's been in the league a long time? The last guy I can think of that deserved something in the NFL was Walter Payton, and Ditka let that buffoon Perry get the TD instead. But at least Ditka realized how wrong that was, too late for Sweetness, but better than never.
All in all, the Stones were better than the game. I hope I can move around like Mick when I get to be his age, although I'll likely be more like Richards at that age, which is what, 90? 80?
Posted by Duckman GR at February 5, 2006 08:21 PMOh, and let me add, I thought some of the commercials were funny, but don't ask me which ones, commercials don't stick in my head.
Oh, and Mick, it's "You, you make a dead man CUM, cause you seemed to have forgotten!
Posted by Duckman GR at February 5, 2006 08:29 PMMy Bengal cat mistook the Toshiba mouse for a real one, and caused a premature post earlier. It should have read: The Seahawks will win outright sometime next year, but certainly NOT today. Damn cat, made me look foolish.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 5, 2006 09:07 PMI had money on Seattle back in september at 20-1, so I didn't like the outcome... I think they played the better game, but Pittsburgh had 2 great plays. Kind of a dull game overall. Officiating was poor. Commercials were lackluster. National anthem and halftime show were bad.
But congrats to the Steelers. They really came a long way this season. It's tough to come out of the AFC, and they beat some good teams on the road to make it.
Posted by muckdog at February 5, 2006 10:06 PMThe Hummer ad was confusing. I thought Godzilla type monsters were always male, so when this monumental lizard started smooching with the giant robot, I assumed they were promoting some sort of super-monster gay lifestyle. Imagine my relief when "Godziletta" got knocked up, and popped out a baby Hummer! And because Bush keeps reminding us of 9-11, seeing the monsters destroy the buildings upset the children.
Was the pickup truck being pounded in the surf supposed to remind us of hurricanes? Is this how they keep the masses in fear? Tin foil alert.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 5, 2006 10:38 PMThe bud light commercial with the bear was funny.
What was up with the ads of all the Steelers caressing the Lombardi Trophy, seemed like there were 12 for the Steelers and only 2 for the Seahawks. It was pre-ordained for the Steelers.
No way was Ben over the goal line, he was knocked back but it was to close to call for a reversal. That wasn't interference on the Seattle touchdown both players had there hands out. The holding calls killed Seattle's momemtum on every big play they had. Very suspect.
The wife and I were in an expensive football pool, $40.00 per square; pay out was every quarter; our numbers were Steelers 1, Seahawks 0. So we won $930.00. It took the sting of the defeat away.
I'm just glad I never made it to Laughlin to place a bet, I would have lost my ass.
Duckman, The network edited Mick's vocals so CUM wouldn't be spoken.
Posted by bbtb at February 6, 2006 02:07 AMThe call back of the touchdown was legit. The Seahawk guy pushed off. Hence the interference call. It was certainly NOT clear in the replay that Ben DID NOT break the plane of the goal line (which is all one has to do to score a touchdown, break the plane, not crossover into the endzone paint)so the call on the field stands. Touchdown! Clearly the blocking below the knees call on Hasselback was bogus.
Bottom line: The Seahawks had the chance to blow the game wide open in the first half and didn't. The Steelers hung in there and waited for the big plays. And not that they could have done much to change the end result but the Seahawks clock management in the last 4 minutes was about the worst I've seen in quite a while. Who was calling those plays? Horrible.
Anyway, I was pulling for the Steelers. Call me a sucker for the Madden, Bradshaw, Harris days.
My wife committed to getting me tickets for Superbowl ?? if the Jets ever get there again! WHich means it will not happen in my lifetime.
Posted by snark at February 6, 2006 06:03 AMI quit watching professional sport, practically all sports quite a few years ago, but relented and watched the game since I am only 80 miles from Seattle. But the officiating reminded me why I quit watching professional sports. The calls were uniformly against the Seahawks. The holding call and the quarterback tackle being the most egregious examples, the rest were judgment calls and went against the Seahawks in every case except the potential fumble. Even that one was called wrong on the field and then overruled.
Sort of reminds me of the way the media covers the Bush White House. I don't need to experience more of that simpering collaboration in my life. I do like Cowher and I think the Seahawks largely dominated the game and failed to score points through the domination. That's on them. Sometimes if you want to be champs you have to beat the other team and the refs. The Seahawks didn't rise to that challenge. Bad play calling, dropped balls etc.
Posted by Angel at February 6, 2006 08:54 AMNo one won the game. The refs lost it for both teams and the fans.
both teams had the jitters and made mistakes.
Both teams had to deal with that. Fine.
but
only one team had to deal with the shitty officiating... even Madden on air pointed out the missed calls (offsides on the one huge play that got the holding call) and the bad calls.
Not a classic game. Worst officiated game ever. That should never happen in a super bowl.
Posted by jjjjjj at February 6, 2006 08:56 AMThe officiating was poor and Seattle deserved a better fate. That being said, I'm not sure they deserved to win because their TE can't catch, they missed 2 field goals, and they screwed up the 2-minute drill to end both halves. As average as Pittsburgh looked yesterday, they didn't implode.
Pittsburgh fans: You can attempt to rehash all these calls to prove they were correct, but the reality is that EVERY break went your way today and two of the biggest calls were flat out wrong: the offensive PI and the holding call on Stevens' rare catch that put the ball on the Pittsburgh 1. I don't ever recall watching a Super Bowl where the officials played such a huge role in the game.
Posted by Double B at February 6, 2006 01:40 PM"And al michaels makes me want to hurl sharp objects, disgusting bush lovin twerp. Madden I can take, even if he is a Raider, but michaels has got to go."
Good grief man, can't you let politics go for one minute??? I really feel sorry for you.
Actually I was rooting for Seattle and thought the calls were pretty bad. I had forgotten about that call against the QB. Huge bad call.
