An N.S.A. employee gets a juicy tidbit on someone like Oprah, and sells it to a tabloid for big bucks. Oprah sues, and the tracks lead back to Chimpy's "spys-r-us" program.
GAME, SET, MATCH.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 5, 2006 11:56 PMWatch Sen. Specter drop the ball today when he faces Gonzales's dog and pony show. I predict the Attorney General will blow a prodigious amount of smoke up Specter's arse and the rush will numb the poor guy's brain.
In addition to smoke Gonzales will go on full frontal attack, as per turd blossom's detailed instructions. He'll stun the committee with his OUTRAGE and SHOCK that anyone would question the Prezint's decisions on how to perteck americuns.
And watch what happens when the Democrats get their turns. Gonzales will turn up the heat. Another angry barrage. Which will turn them into whipped yellow dogs pissing the floor, bellies up, begging the Alpha Male to not take another bite out of their cowardly asses.
And at the end of the day, the repugs will resume their fascist agenda. Bidness as usual. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED at the hearing, and nothing will the next time they convene.
Why?
Because the Democrats, after six years, have not yet learned how to effectively deal with Karl Rove's fascist tactics. And I'm afraid this just how it is, and absolutely nothing is going to change...at least in MY lifetime.

Specter telegraphed the plays to the White House on MTP when he indicated all that Bu$hCo needed to do to 'fix' the problem was to ask for a change in the law. There would be no hesitation to grant that request.
Kiss this country goodbye - it's been taken over.
Posted by pessimist at February 6, 2006 12:13 AMAs Capitol Hill prepares to battle the White House over George W. Bush's expanding war powers, moderate Senators on both sides of the aisle are quietly considering a range of options that would attempt at the very least to delineate the President's authority, if not roll it back. Bush's claims of wartime license are so great--the White House and Justice Department have argued that the Commander in Chief's pursuit of national security cannot be constrained by any laws passed by Congress, even when he is acting against U.S. citizens--that some Senators are considering a constitutional amendment to limit his powers.
Posted by JHJ at February 6, 2006 02:44 AMYou got any thoughts about why the blogosphere is so nihilistic and negative about this instead of getting mobilized like the way_too_late version over the filibuster? Maybe we are the ones who are 'scared' or looking to some higher power like the Democrats. It is a lot easier to complain about the Democrats that get fired up again...

Stop bitching and start acting. Go. Go. Go.
Posted by patience at February 6, 2006 05:43 AMThis is why I'm so pessimistic about our prospects. The Dems keep making the same mistakes over and over. They. Just. Don't. Get. It.
Posted by NJ Brian at February 6, 2006 05:54 AMYesterday on CNN, Johnathan Turley called Rove's (let's not forget who's running this shit) attempted legal justifications laughable, and then rightfully turned his fire on the Democratic Senators, whose behavior he called "bizarre." He said a real opposition party would be shutting down DC until this criminal activity was answered for.
Bizarre...that about sums it up. Fuck BushRove, and fuck the Democrats harder, the cowardly enablers.

[Editor: ignore=off]Tell me Bendito how it has crippled anything? Show us proof instead of talking points. Tell us about the prosecutions and the investigations compromised, or the knowledge that this has given Al Qaeda that they didn't have before.
Give us specifics, and tell us why Bush's confirmation of the program hasn't given them the same information.
We're waiting to hear some proof for the talking points.
Go ahead.
Posted by Steve Soto at February 6, 2006 06:26 AM"Proof"? That's a math term. 'Pubes don't do science and math (or truth). Don't hold your breath Steve. One hit wonder, PoopyPuppy 'ditto won't be back (and thank God for small favors.)
Posted by Sharon at February 6, 2006 06:37 AMI hope some Democrats have learned from the Alito hearings that there is tremendous support for them out here in the "boondocks" and that knowledge will give them courage.
They have to be tough on Gonzales and give him no quarter....take no prisoners...there is much at stake here.

Posted by worthlessDems at February 6, 2006 09:46 AMA few months ago I, too, believed that some real change was possible. Sadly it isn't with this crew of Demos. They believe eventually the country will turn the power over to them simply because Bushco is so bad. It is not going to happen. Honestly, Thieves and autocrats are a better bet than cowards in fearful times.
If there is to be a better choice in the near future--a third way will have to be found. Geo Wallace was wrong about a lot of things--but he was right when he said there isn't a dimes worth of difference between the Repubs and Demos in Washington.
Personally, I am having flashbacks to the late 1950's. Feels like time to drop out, smoke a little dope and make a little love. Can't go along and there is very little that can be done to make thngs different, yet.
Chad,
So that's why I've been fantasizing about sitting on a beach in Mexico and eating lots of ceviche, drinking beer. Interesting. I was born 20 years after the 50s...
and the times haven't changed...
smoke a little dope... eat a little fish... either way.
John Palcewski says the Demns haven't learned to take on the GOP and their "fascist tactics". He's right about their tactics and how the Dems seemed to be cowed. John seems to be well-meaning, nice person who is concerned like the rest of us. But it goes way beyond learning. They simply don't want to because they're in on the fix.
Until the Dems throw up their hands and concede that they have no influnce whatsoever in fuling and governing except to score possible political points for election time and by serving as useful patsies and foils for the GOP, there will be no light at the end of the tunnel.
As this scentario will never happen and the election machinery and polling process is completely controlled and massively manipulated by the GOP in every election since 2000 and the Dems have not raised one peep about it, it is incumbent for every patriotic citizen who once supported the Dems to abandon them once and for all and ignore everything they say -- especially their leadership.
Support and money should be thrown to credible third parties with coherent, opposition philosophies, parties that are authentic backers of labor, anti-free trade, rebuilding infrastructure, preversing constitional, civil and individual rights and who promote science and technology and not Calvinist or religious right mumbo junbo and hate. The Socialist Equality Party would be a good starting point.
This should not of course prejudice support of individual Democrats and Republican (people like Russ Feingold and a handful in the House (Roi Paul, Cynthia McKinney, Barbara Lee, John Conyters, McDermott and a few I neglected to mention) who show honor and courage in the line of fire.
The Dems must be abandoned and forsaken -- their leadership having in caved on everything of consequence during the past six year except Social Security where they decided to go for it because they had the backing of the public and if they went along with Bush's plan they'd have nothing left. This in spite of the fact that the trust fund is non-existent and benefits will be slashed if and when the dollar tumbles and foreigners call in their US dollar debt.
The Dems are a sick joke and we have to stop their absurd pandering to the "base" and our mindless enabling of this pandering The base needs to pick up their bats and balls and move to another home field if they're not be used and hung out to dry over and over and over again.
Enough's enough!
