What Cheney and Bush are doing is very important and they will not change what they are doing until we change. This articleserves as an example of what could be done. While these criminals destroy the country we love, we are discussing distractions and debating with brainwashed trolls. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! We are at war with fascist that are demonizing us and blaming everything they think is wrong on us. What are we going to do? We don't have to wage an armed struggle. We don't have to sacrifice our bodies with civil disobedience. All we have to do is spent our money wisely. What happens if everyone that disagrees with what's happening starts to buy only Citgo gasoline? What happens if we boycott Fox New's top five advertisers?
Posted by smooth at February 15, 2006 02:55 PMIf Cheney will "never get the image of Harry falling" out of his head, it's a damn good thing he weaseled his way out of Vietnam, he could have alot WORSE nightmares.

Yes, there's all this political power we have that we aren't using...
Posted by dj moonbat at February 15, 2006 03:24 PMhis own role is in jeopardy both inside Congress and on the election trail.
Oh, this is damaging, no doubt about it. It goes along with their general stupidity and carelessness of the adminstration. It kills the "were tough" meme because Cheney was basically shooting fish in a barrel.
As far as Cheney's role, I'd be surprised if anyone wanted him to campaign for him even before he shot his friend. I seriously doubt that any Republican in a competetive race will want Jr. to show his face either. They have become political poison and the shooting incident is just one more whack in the face for B/C.
Posted by Ga6thDem at February 15, 2006 03:24 PMSome other people have raised it first, but I think this administration is crazy enough to go with it: Why not drag out the shooting story and let it damage Cheney? While we all concentrate on him, NO ONE is mentioning Bush or the NSA scandal or Abramoff or the war and fraud in Iraq or the crisis with Iran or the Hurricane Katrina report. Karl Rove would probably prefer keeping the focus on some old lawyer getting accidentally shot, even if (we can hope) it destroys Cheney in the end. That way, he'd get to pick a hand-picked successor for Dubya to replace him as veep for the remainder of the term.

I don't think they're really doing this. I think they honestly just fucked up again. If they wanted to get rid of Cheney, they'd just let him resign for health reasons. But Cheney's the one running the show and pulling all the strings.
But they don't have an heir apparent, the GOP knows this, so it's not like they have some hot new puppet to fit the costume. They won't let Maverick McCain in the picture and he's the only obvious candidate.
Posted by ann at February 15, 2006 03:40 PMAlthough, I might add, I do believe they are using it as a distraction from the backroom dealings Cheney has going on regarding gaining congressional support for the NSA illegal wiretaps. And Scooter, Abramoff, etc., etc., etc.
Posted by ann at February 15, 2006 03:50 PMann: Just because they did'nt plan this does'nt mean they won't use the opportunity to have Cheney resign as an evil press hounded marter.
Better than waiting till he has to resign because of leaking, or some other crime. It would remove a lightning rod.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 15, 2006 03:58 PMAfter talking with many work colleges and neighbors I can say that the concensus in my area is that Cheny will not resign for strategic or tatical reasons. I agree, it would be fun to see a power struggle between Rove and Cheney.

Well, I did, right here, with an excellent article from Knight Ridder on Katrina as the highlight. Just so you know.
But if we can put pressure on these freaks by linking their personal failings to their political failings, and they are legion, well, then, that needs to be done too.
Remember what they said, "Now the grown-ups are in charge." Which explains the mess we'rein today if that's their idea of grown-up, a man who hides for days after an accident. You do that on the street, that's felony hit and run.

Similiar to them dissing Hackett!!
I know this is off-topic but I just have to say that all this speculation and analysis from every spin and turn of the news cycle has the left and progressives chasing our tails.
We need to tune out of the news cycle entirely and concentrate on the long term. No more Kremlinology and palance watching. It just drives us to distraction and inaction.
We need massive, passive resistance and now. That means refusing to vote in an election process that's a charade and instead turning out at the polls on election day to protest against a traduced, corrupted processs.
We need to rip off the figleaf and call very Democratic congressperson and Senator and tell them no more votes for them until they march off the hill, en masses or several at a time and start talking about election theft and manufactured terror. They need to be ripped a new one.
Turn off the tv's, stop perusing the WaPo, NYT, Huff Post and other sites and let's keep our eyes on the ball. Otherwise liberal blogs are just a lot of hot air and spectator sport. The game's over people. If we want a chance of taking it back we need a new approach. This bloviating (including from me) is not working. Could this be clearer?
Need to start a movement and now.

So Cheney was drunk and with his babe in Texas on a hunting holiday and he blasts a 78 year old buddy with a rifle in broad daylight.
Meanwhile, Bush hosted Jeff Gannon in the White House hundreds of times over a 2 year period according to Secret Service records released under the FOIA.

Posted by angryspittle at February 15, 2006 06:37 PMBush has near zero political capital. Cheney slightly less. Don't understand the focus. Years and years of relentless pounding by the press (I see Abu Graib photos are on the front page yet again - big surprise - but let's keep that muslim cartoon out of the paper!!!) have neutered the admin. One could make the argument they helped neuter themselves in certain areas.
But an active republican administration really has no shot in the long run. Sure the people of the country want them more than the liberals, but with the hostile press whatever is going to be done needs to be done in the first two years.
Posted by Hindu at February 15, 2006 06:43 PMIt's pure genious. Cheney shot that guy on purpose. He'll resign the VP. Bush will appoint a new VP, Karl Rove. When Bush's term ends, the Rove legacy continues but this time as President of the United States.

it's a matter of cumulative toxicity.
we,
all of us americans,
have had five years to gauge these guys; five years to get a bead on the bush administration.
question:
what is the 50% lethal dose of "the bush presidency's conduct"
i.e.
at what point do 50% or more of the supporters "die", ie. quit believing what the administration says, or supporting what it does?
i'll bet that cheney's hunting "incident" put 50% or more of american voters in the "no longer a supporter" group
permanently.
cheney's hunting accident and behavior will not be forgotten by americans.
it is probably the single most harmful thing that the bush presidency has had to endure.
from now on,
it is important for all who care about this nation
to keep piling on the evidence and the information
about other incompetencies and deceits of the bush administration
for others of our fellow citizens and voters to evaluate in 2006.

I was thinking about that today, matter of fact. When they took over, they acted like Dad and Mom had just come back from a long vacation and found the house trashed. Well, it's all culminating and Americans (real Americans, not the trolls we have here) are starting to see who the actual adults are.

And if you see a homeless Iraq veteran under a bridge, take them home. That got cut also. But the high side is the wealthy get to keep their money and Iraq costs $122 billion! Everyone else? I totally agree. We need a focused plan and the right stregic interest to boycott. We should boycott until the elections are no longer stolen and the lies are exposed. The election experts should again be able to predict elections, as they always have, using exit polls. The Diebolt scams, obvious conflict of interest (harris and blackwell), voter suppression, equipment hacking and swift boat lying must be stopped. The Gasoline industry should no longer be an unregulated monopoly (the mergers should stop and divestitures should be considered).
Posted by smooth at February 15, 2006 08:34 PMMuckdog, EXACTLY.
For those non-historian buffs. This election in 2008 will be the first in over 50 years in which no incumbent or vice president incumbent is running.
Cheney is not running so the field is open. So if he resignes, and this sound plausible, then George Could appoint Governor George Allen to the VP and he would immediately be the front runner....that would be fun.
I'd miss Cheney. I only wish he were well enough to run for President. He reminds me of Bob Hope. Always dignified, honest and always a straightshooter, so to speak.
I really think of Bob Hope when I see Cheney. Both men of character.
TLC has really been in a turmoil lately. If we had the internet back in Teddy kennedy's vehicular homocide days, then his family would never have prevented his arrest and criminal conviction....
Of course that one fraud helped to keep that foul man in the fore front of political life, and help distinguish the differences between the parties.

He calls himself Carpe, but actually Crappy is a better name. He generally posts unintelligent, boring posts. He likes to pride himself on his superlative argumentive skills. However, no one else sees that quality in him. He also likes to boast of his critical thinking skills, but once again, that opinion is not shared by others. Crappy has a very low self-esteem, he's willing to accept being beaten 10 ten times in arguments, as long as he gets 1 "victory". Of course that victory is never supported by facts. Your description of him as an idiot is very apt.
That's "homicide", 'less yer talkin bout "Brokeback Mountain" kinda homocide. (:>
Posted by Donald Cormac at February 15, 2006 11:10 PMSmooth -- Thanks for your concurrence. While I understand why the Cheney shooting incident is of such great moment, it's just one more distraction. It may serve to discredit him, but only temporarily. But we already know the character of this man and what his agenda has been. He is after all the Prime Minister and Regent of the Empire and Bush the figurehead king.
The Democrats are not an opposition party. Please someone tell me in what sense are they a fighting opposition? They are feckless at best and quislings at worst. They offer no opposition to the national security state and manufactured terror. They cave on every issue of consequence. Yes, there may be honorable decent people in both caucuses, in fact there are some outstanding people. But as a party they are utterly worthless and helpless. Once members are elected they have no chance of making a difference except by making some individual waves.
Anybody who really tries to speak out is instantly discredited. It's not all the Dems fault, I admit. Our society is realy, really fucked up at this point and all power has been grabbed by one party on virtually every level and among all the major institutions and estates. I have been a lifelong Democrat (I'm 49) but I've given up on this party completely and am saying goodbye for good. How long can we be trampled on. We're living in an empire now and we need a credible alternative voice, perhaps the Socialist Equality Party can form the nuclear of a genuine opposition.
I used to be wary of the assertions that the Dems and GOP were two variannts of the ruling system. But now it's clear. The Dems serve primarily as foil and patsies for the GOP and a figleaf of our traduced "democratic" system. Sticking with them as a party is a complete waste of time. Actually, it's worse. The bandaid must be pulled off the scab in a swift motion.
I find it hard to believe that Soto can defend them at all. We need to coax them to take a stand on health care? Please give me a break! If they can't do this on their own forget it. And if they spurn the netroots, isn't that sending a very clear message. This party is not a home anymore, it's a corpse Let the Liebermans and others of his ilk jump ship to the GOP and let's compel those with integrity like McDermott, Miller, Boxer, Feingold and tohers to choose in favor of a true opposition third party.
Soto, you have to re-read what you wrote. I know you're depressed and in despair but this solution is no solution at all. It's complete surrender. Time to MoveOn and not to MoveOn either which is also hopeless. We can do much, much better than this and will. The Dems will go down to much deserved defeat in 2006. Millions of grassroots voters will abandon them and will probably not vote at all in 2006, election theft or no election theft, a fait accompli they can't even work up the courage to make one peep about. This is a sad charade. Isn't it clear as day?

Ted's dozens of calls (while Mary-Jo was in an air pocket clawing the car's roof) to friends, lawyers and bagmen is without equal. Thank-God it was just a forgivable mistake so these days he gets to sit before poiential Supreme Court nominees and question their character.
