Comments: Getting Local

Of course, the problem is that local liberal talk shows don't often attract a lot of listeners. I think the reason is because they don't talk about issues that affect people's lives. Without listeners, it's hard to get advertising revenue.

For example, a local conservative in Sacramento is Tom Sullivan. He spends most of his shows talking about current events and issues. Recently, he's had tax folks on taking questions from callers about their income taxes.

Compare that to a SF talk show host like a Bernie Ward, who spends 3 hours a night talking about how horrible the Republicans are. The other night, Bernie was speculating that Cheney must've been drunk. I caught about 2 minutes of him shouting over a liberal caller who was saying "It was a horrible accident, but shouldn't we be talking about the issues?" Bernine hung up on him.

If the Democrat plan is to flood the airwaves, then they better have a Contract With America type of plan like I outlined the other day, and stick to it. That's how you win folks' minds.

Do take a few minutes to read it and then read Jane Hamsher and Glenn Greenwald on the same topic.

Or better yet, bookmark these two very important blogs and read them every day. Both of these blogs, along with TLC are approaching mainstream status.

I especially love Glenns ability to cut through the bullhocky.

And Janes posters rival any Rethug think tank or political response team. I really do believe some top Dem stratigist that think outside the DLC box are reading blogs, and these are the blogs they are reading. (Kos just goes without saying)

The above was me...damn you typepad!

That's how you win folks' minds.

Seems to me on your side of the fence, all that has to be done is scream for a tax cut and erect the big liberals are evil strawman. Kind of shallow I know, but it is ever so hard to dumb down those complex issues enough to appeal to the christian trailer trash crowd now isn't it? Better to just go with what works.

You might be listening to something different on the radio, but around here its I hate liberals and taxes all the time.

However, when the disaster that is the worship of all things W comes to its reality based conclusion I perdict a pardigm shift. Intelligence and carefull consideration will become cool and red-neckism and jingoism will be out.

SS: This port deal may be the rip in the evangelist's tent to let the donkey's nose in.

Fox is now reporting that the White House proper did not know about the deal, until some people in congress brought it to their attention.

The ignorence excuse won't fly here. Now, if we only had some donkey drivers.

Posted by TIKI AL at February 20, 2006 07:20 PM

Muckdog - you make some pertinent points, but Snarky Shark is partly right about the fact that much of "Right" talk radio has devolved into hate radio.

Posted by eriposte at February 20, 2006 07:21 PM

Muckpuppy really seems to care. Possibly he is begining to subscribe to the known fact that the market does better under Democratic leadership and that at the very least power should be divided.

That said I stand by my assertion that todays complex problems cannot be dumbed down enough so that people who like their information properly scrubbed and spun are realisticaly able to participate.

Has it come down to whoever can spin their worldview into 30 second bytes will win?

If the Republican party wants to have any input after this, they better start repudiating Bush now. That spineless label could start to fit Republicans if the keep going all Pat Roberts on everything. Rubber stamps most definetly have no spines.

Frankly, I'm sick of partisan radio. Especially the reich wingers (who are just fucking flat out liars). ..but also the left, because the shit just gets old. Although I will admit that the lefties take far, far, far fewer liberties with the truth and at least try to be accurate. Not so with the reichwingers, who take those talking points and repeat those motherfuckers until their jaws ache...reality be damned (and it most certainly is.)

Science Friday on NPR...that's what I like. I like to be informed, not blinded by propaganda. Anybody who willingly listens to Limbaugh or his wannabes is a fucking shitbrained fool unworthy of human dignity.

I read through thefirst couple of paragraphs of first link "this blog post by Taylor Marsh."

I must say that in these first few paragraphs, the author hardly establishes herself as anything more that a hyper-ventilated lefty: the rest of the post is irrelevant.

People, lefties, you must come up with something more than simply rants and raves. Ideas, folks. Ideas count, not delusional constructs.

Posted by Bagley at February 20, 2006 08:08 PM

Ideas? A GOPnazi has the gall to blast someone else for a lack of ideas?

Here's the GOP version of an "idea:"

BE AFRAID!!!

Posted by God Of War at February 20, 2006 08:16 PM

Here's another GOP IDEA. Let's invade Iraq. They will throw flowers in our path and embrace us.

"Here's another GOP IDEA. Let's invade Iraq. They will throw flowers in our path and embrace us."

Yadda, yadda, yadda......

The invasion of Iraq will be very useful in the future: it will prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the Arab / Islamic world is not capable of participating in the modern world without supervision. That Arabs / Islamics are unable to govern themselves: the slaves to Allah need supervision.

Supervision will come. Call it colonization.

Yes, that seems to be working out so well. Perhaps if you weren't such a...what's the word... ah, yes...such a COWARD, you'd go partake in said colonization yourself.

Posted by God Of War at February 20, 2006 08:44 PM

Sheesh. Somebody's got some reading to do:

After Neoconservatism

Supervision will come. Call it colonization.

Humilating departure will come. Call it Republican stupidity and hubris.

And no, it will not be the liberals fault. The dirty hippy excuse will not fly.

GOW, donchya know that ole Bagsley is a lockstepping Korporal Major in the 101 Fighting Keyboard Kommandos. Best part is s/he thinks s/he's a wo/man of "ideas" yet all those "ideas" sound identical to those that emanate from Rove-RNC Truthiness HQ. Remember to be a true believer the first thing you learn is, it's the truth as one wishes it to be and not as it actually is in reality that really counts.

Posted by emal at February 21, 2006 06:18 AM

Bagley, you are one ignorant arrogant person. I guess you think that only Americans are intelligent. What an ass.

Posted by at February 21, 2006 08:22 AM

We really should commend Bagley for his splendid candor in recent days: first openly calling for much more brutality in dealing with the "14th century mindset" of the "Arab/Islamic world", and now calling for their (permanent? indefinite?) "supervision/colonization". Whatever.

So much for bringing divine, self-realizing democracy to the thirsting, oppressed peoples of the world!

Now if only the Right Wing Administration Bagley supports so fervently would be as forthcoming in its views and opinions! Then at least we could have an honest "debate" and present the American Boob with the likelihood we will prevail in the Wore on Terra using such fabulous tactics.

Muckpuppy: please show the public that you care for more than the almighty dollar, or income taxes in this case. I have been on your case for a while, but with good reason. I do not personally dislike you (I don't know you), but you have an absolutely twisted fixation with money. Get a grip.

Bagley: I cannot be as impartial with you as with Muckpuppy. You are a FUCKING IDIOT, and a racist as well. Stick your head in the toilet for eight minutes; you would be doing everyone a favor.

Scout: let me guess, you don't believe in the 'theory' of evolution, do you? It's God, six days, and Adam and Eve. Am I correct?

Scout: let me guess: you do not believe in the 'theory' of evolution. With you, it's God, six days, and Adam and Eve and original sin. Am I correct?

Sorry for the double post, something strange is going on with the server. It must be the Lord pissed off with my heretical musings.
