Nicely written pess. Any news on the Salton Sea? I visited there once in my youth before it became a dying lake. I understand that there is a long term plan to revive it, having been there I hope that they're successful.
Some have suggested that what the neocons actually have in mind is a replacement of the new deal state with a military based state. Think of the unsustainability of such a project, there is the simple truth that an aspiring world power like China is not going to underwrite a rivals' oil consumption through continuing to purchase debt that clearly will not be re-paid. At some point China will decide that their need to obtain oil outweighs the cost of losing the ability to sell cheap trinkets to the American market.
Yes, we do need hope in these times, thanks.
I'm glad they've legalized that DMT tea for you, Pessimist.
Posted by Toby Petzold at February 21, 2006 07:12 PMIt didn't occur to me until I was crawling back on I-15 to my part of the Inland Empire that I had experienced something very profound in that experience.
Yes, I love that singular moment of clarity such moments can provide. Life is tenacious, you almost have to beat it back in some cases. And yet we seem to lose another species almost everyday.
Its the duality of nature, and because we are of nature its the duality of man as well.
And then you get this
I'm glad they've legalized that DMT tea for you, Pessimist.
Because if you are finding profound events in a desert then you must be high on something, right?
It's called being high on life troll, and thats what its like being a progressive. Thats why you hate so, because you know this is a place you can never get to. I delight in the irony that someone who calls himself pessimist is filled with this wonderfull coriousity and zest for life.
If you were trying to be funny, you failed on every level. But you've always been quite tone-deaf.

Posted by SnarkyShark at February 21, 2006 08:18 PMPess, lovely and much needed today. Being bogged down in the insanity of it all, I needed an uplift.
Got some humor today. Badly needed.
Bob Rivers had this twisted tune out within a couple of days of Shooter's "miss-hap".
The video, though, really brings it home.
Turn up the volume and enjoy.
Posted by Anjha at February 21, 2006 08:24 PMSnarky, get a grip. I was giving Pessimist the business long before you ever showed up.
One of the most sacred memories I have of my Daddy is driving with him through Northern Utah in the Spring of 1993 and watching a storm roll across the face of that ancient seabed like a dark cat inching its way along a bright tile floor. It was absolutely mesmerizing and made us realize how very small we are in the presence of something like that.

Everything you see is temporary. All of it.
Chew on that while you're staring at the ceiling tonight.

p, Some wonderful work. Last year when the rains were heavy there was an amazing flower show here in the desert southwest.
If we could only get a brief rain shower here in the Phoenix area. 125 days and counting and we continue to break a record everyday. 101 days used to be the old record. My big worry is this is the rainy season.
Next it's on to March and spring training.
Pessimist, lovely post. Thanks for writing it. Hope truly springs eternal.
