It's all downhill for Dumbya now. He'll end up just like his old man. Looking years older than his age and badly in need of a silver-plated drool cup. And Poppy at least had half a brain.
Posted by red_neck_repub at February 22, 2006 07:17 PMHoley fraggin shee-yit!... I ... I am in shock. It is going to be hard to keep myself from being a pessismist if this keeps up.
Posted by Jolly Sapper at February 22, 2006 07:23 PMO'Strifely flipped! Well, I'll be damned.
Isn't DeLay screaming about the kettle being black? Man, these guys feed on their own with such gusto. Do you think the neo-cons that post here will ever realize they were the main course at the Hyena banquet?
I still don't think the UAE deal is a bad one, but I'm also pragmatic. If it is causing this much grief for Buscho I can only be very pleased.
Posted by phidipides at February 22, 2006 07:33 PMIsn't the real problem with the port deal not that it's being outsourced to an Arab country, but that it's being outsourced at all. Why shouldn't port operations and security be overseen by the federal government? It's like outsourcing the border patrol, or FEMA. It just doesn't make sense. The Republicans have made it totally acceptable to strip off the functions of government and sell them out to the highest bidder. We've already seen what kind of abuse that has led to with the Haliburtonization of the military. It's a totally inefficient and ineffective way to run a country, but certain cronies get to make enoumous fourtunes. Isn't that what this deal is really about?
Posted by Oaklander at February 22, 2006 07:49 PMAnybody ever hear about chickens and roosting?
Posted by angryspittle at February 22, 2006 07:54 PMDear Phidipides, Jolly, and RRR: I'm with you on that It looks like king chimp S**t-for-brains is on his way out - on his ass - although I think he should have the ass on his back! However, as wonderful as it may seem, we still don't know where the NSA spying thing went, but, impeachment will take care of it all! Condom Rice is doing a very bad job, Pigrovean is in hiding, and ChainGangCheney slipped on chimp-in-office's banana peel. Chummy where's-my-nunchucks-Rummy is not going to fare well - at all. Maybe we get to see them do the frog-walk!
Posted by sara swati at February 22, 2006 08:05 PMOaklander,
You hit the nail on the head. Privatization means selling government functions for profits to the connected special interest at the public expense. The poor and middle class cults are totally blind to your point. This cult is too hungup on social issues and critical thinking challenged to see this point. A blind brainwashed electorate is detrimental to a representative republic.
Yes! The chickens are coming home to roost.
Posted by smooth at February 22, 2006 08:06 PMI like that, chickens and roosting. Hopefully, they will not find their way to our local food supply. Yuck!
Posted by sara swati at February 22, 2006 08:09 PMThe LAST thing that the Republicans want is an informed electorate.
Posted by James at February 22, 2006 08:41 PMOaklander is correct about ports being a form of border. It is also correct that after the dollar loses its status as world reserve currency and our creditors demand that our debts be repaid, probabally in euros, that there will be pressure to sell vital national assets like ports. The government of that time will have the Hobson's choice of doing just that or raising taxes and cutting spending at the same time to such an extent that it will be political sucide for the president that has to do it.
The sorry legacy of this current regieme will haunt America for years.
"what respect does Condi have left in the region"
About the same as she had before the trip: none.
Let's face it, Condi's fucking useless.
Posted by ran at February 22, 2006 09:21 PMRummy in charge of disaster response, but only under certain circumstances
These include making the military the lead agency to coordinate immediate relief when state and local resources are overwhelmed, one official said.
That would only happen in the worst of catastrophic disasters, such as storms of Katrina’s magnitude and terrorist attacks
Reichstag Fire anyone?
Duckman. It would seem that the maladministration SHOULD BE in full retreat. There seems to be a schism between the Cheney/Rumsfeld axis of evil and the Rovian politicos who have the vague capacity to smell the shit piling up around their clay feet. Loud clucking can be heard outside the Oval Office door and desperate "congresspersons" are finally realizing their jobs are at risk.
Unfortunately, this clown college has shown an eerie inability to learn from mistakes. The more desperate things become, the more attractive their only hope becomes. That is, of course, President Warlord. I have almost always suspected they allowed 9/11 to happen, underestimating the actual damage, as is their wont, but perfectly willing to allow a "Pearl Harbor type incident" to occur to advance their goals. Most of us forget what a joke the administration was already becoming until September.
Fortunately, I believe even a fool like Rummy can be convinced that the results of a senseless attack on Iran would be catastrophic to the only thing they care about, their political futures. UNfortunately, with a fool like Rummy and a sociopath like Cheney and his neoclowns, I can't be too confident in that belief. Hopefully, Karl can dodge the incictment servers and emerge from his secure location long enough to make the case.
That leaves them with only one option, a terr'rist attack. I shudder to think of the idea that Rumsfeld will be the first responder to a major catastophic event. With battle coarsened troops carrying machine guns in the streets of an American city, it's not a stretch of imagination to discover the "need" for a declaration of martial law.
These people have been responsible for the destruction of a vibrant economy, the degradation of a viable middle class, the deaths and injury of hundreds of thousands of fellow human beings and the attempted disappearance of the Constitution of the United States of America. They have everything to lose and have shown NO sign of ethics, morality or restraint. Sometime before the 2006 elections, there most likely WILL be a terrorist attack on US soil. When that excrement hits the spinning blades, I just don't know what will result. Be afraid, be very afraid, but be ready to fight for all our futures.

Yes.
Posted by dj moonbat at February 23, 2006 04:57 AMAfter reading about that Secret Port Deal from the AP article that was linked (shades of Shooter's Secret Energy Task force anyone)? I just had to pull these sentences from the AP article.
In Lebanon, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday that the agreement was thoroughly vetted in a review process that took approximately three months.....The White House said President Bush did not know about the agreement until recently.
That is just as good as the line of Ben Veniste questioning that resulted in Rice essentially saying (paraphrasing), "We had no idea that they were going to attack in this country, ...The name of the August 6,2001 PDB was Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the US".
Anyway the only good news I could think of after reading major headlines is that Shooter hasn't shot a man in the face in almost 2 weeks! (well none that we know of yet)
Posted by emal at February 23, 2006 05:11 AMRan, Condi blows Bush, so she isn't useless!

She dresses nice and can play the piano. I bet Busch trots her out like a trained seal.

I'll buy this, but that means you have to look at 20 years of unrestrained multi-national deals. The multi-nationals don't want you looking at those deals. That means you won't get to look at those deals. America Second, Us First. That's all you need to know.
