The fact that Carville is married to Matalin, and that Begala is Carville's best friend, tells me that the DC insiders really view our nation's health and security as nothing more than a game.
But I really shouldn't be so hard on Carville and Matalin. People question how they could be married to each other since they ostensibly have different political stripes. But the truth of the matter is that their main interest is in manipulating the media on behalf of their clients and themselves. Neither of them really cares about the political positions of the other because THEY DON'T TAKE THOSE POSITIONS SERIOUSLY.
They don't care if they have to lie for Bush's debacle in Iraq, or fudge the truth on behalf of Clinton's blow job. All that matters to them is that they get paid, they keep getting book deals, and they keep getting invited on to MTP. The rest of us who suffer from they screw ups of their clients, well, we are just the little people.
As long as people like Carville, Matalin, Begala, and Russert are working with people like Clinton and Cheney, then the US will continue to be a nation adrift.
Maybe the Dems should give the Republicans what they have longed claim to desire. Let's just de-fund Washington. Cut everything but $100 billion for Defense, fund Social Security and Medicare, and eliminate all other programs. Let the States manage education and health care for themselves. My bet is that the Blue States will flourish since we can stop sending tax dollars to the Red States. We'll also just do a better job of promoting the health and welfare of our citizens. At least, the women in the Blue States will be a helluva lot happier than the women in, say, South Dakota.
Let's make DC, and the people like Shrum and Cheney who exist only to make money from politics, irrelevant by taking away the cash that fund the corruption. And let's keep Blue State liberal dollars at home, rather than to support the wars of the Red States.

Um, besides the trolls...who cares?
Posted by iamcoyote at February 23, 2006 06:46 PMShe's locking them up quick. Interesting. My question: is she the most popular candidate for liberals?
She's obviously been politically aligning herself for the presidential run, especially with her foreign policy stances. She's a formidable candidate. No one on my side of the fence thinks the Clinton's are dummies. I would question whether they really believe anything other than political strategies, but they are no dummies.
From my standpoint Hillary's problem seems to be finding an issue. She abdicated the Iraq issue to be seen as a hawk. Now she seems to be drifting here and there looking for any - please any - issue. She just can't seem to find one.
Wonder what you all think of that, and if you generally support her as the best option?
I think she has the nomination locked up by virtue of having NY and CA in her pocket.
Posted by Hindu at February 23, 2006 06:52 PMAs I said, who, besides the trolls, cares?
Posted by iamcoyote at February 23, 2006 07:16 PM"California in her pocket"? Hindu, you're crazy.
Her support of the Bushites treason-the War of the Big Lies- borne of ambition and perpetuated by moral cowardice, has exposed her inner core. She is unfit for the presidency. And not Carville, or Begala, or any one of their pals in the DLC can alter that rude truth. It will take but a single opponent in the primaries to hammer that truth home, and she'll be finished.
I've cast a democratic ballot in every California election (presidential and otherwise) for four decades. If H. Clinton is the party's nominee in 2008, that streak ends.

Sonoma: ANYONE that cast a vote for chimp-empowerment will not get mine.
In his speech today, Bush bragged about his dad fighting the Japanese in WW II. If Jenna has any sense of humor at all, she should ask "What did you do in the war, daddy?"
Posted by TIKI AL at February 23, 2006 08:48 PMSonoma - great points. So who is her competition? Warner from VA?
Posted by Hindu at February 23, 2006 08:48 PMI'd guess you live back east, Hindu. What most people west of the Mississippi know of Virginia's governor begins and ends with the term "zilch".
Who indeed? I haven't a clue. But an accomplished, self respecting person, willing to goddamn the Bushites without pulling their punches, or deferring in any way to the notion that today's GOP leadership embodies a loyal opposion, will be halfway home coming out of the gate.
And right you are, Tiki Al. Dianne Feinstein will not have my vote this November.
Posted by Sonoma at February 23, 2006 09:15 PMIt better be a southern governor with no swift boat baggage, white, male, and Christain. Welcome to the real world. Wan't to WIN for a change?
Lieberman being an Orthodox Jew helped paint us into this corner of crap. Also, I will never forgive Gore for his Clinton amnesia.
Posted by TIKI AL at February 23, 2006 09:37 PMChoska nailed the circle-jerk that is top tier campaign managers.
I'll never forgive Hillary, her vote for the illegally invading Iraq was simply hedging that Iraq would turn out decently by the time the '08 campaign started.
Lieberman and that poseur Biden are 2 others that are DOA. Wildcard for Biden is the inexplicable trend of a good portion of the country buying the word of poseurs.
I'm still hangin' by a thread in the Gore camp, though I think if he throws his name in, he may be DOA as well.
Are there any decent statesmen names being bandied about? All I'm seeing are through and through politicians (Gore being the one possible exception).
Posted by Simp at February 23, 2006 11:08 PMThe game should revolve around 2006. We've got to stop this madness now. We can't wait until 2008. The current congress refuses to perform their constitutional duties. If the congress does not provide administration oversite or address major issues confronting the nation, why do we need them? This election should be about shutting down the corruption and insisting that Bush follows the law or else. If the new congress does it's job, 2008 would be a new ball game.
Posted by smooth at February 23, 2006 11:25 PMAfter the corruption, incompetence, and failures, 2008 will be a Jimmy Carter/Bill Clinton type election year. Like Nixon's failures paved the way for Carter, by 2008 the republicans will have screwed things up so bad the country will be looking for a fresh start. It will require a calm concise communicator with obvious leadership skills. The new leader will have to see the corporate media for what it is and not be afraid to communicate the truth about the best interest of the country. After inheriting a sesspool, the new leader will have full hands.
Posted by smooth at February 23, 2006 11:34 PMPersonally, I don't think only two families should control the power in this Country for 20 to 28 years, and I don't care who they are. Four years of Bush Senior, eight years of Clinton, eight years of Bush Jr., and they now want 4 to 8 years of Hillary? This Country is insane.
Posted by Judith at February 24, 2006 03:57 AMChoska, thanks. That is the best explanation I have heard about the dynamics of the Carville/Matalin relationship. It answered my questions.
Posted by Judith at February 24, 2006 04:00 AMShe's a formidable candidate.
Hey Hindu, could you get your lips any tighter around Bush's bung hole?
Posted by snark at February 24, 2006 06:14 AMDefinately running for president.
God help us all.

Hillary is not the answer, however; the DLC may try to force her on us just like the the DLC forced Kerry on us versus allowing the grass root movement and Dean to take his rightfull place.
Expect our so called republican-like DLC and DNC leaders attempt to do the same in 2008. You add to the insult that Kerry didn't even voice his protest of the obvious voting fraud and irregularities that took place in Ohio.
Our party is in total dissaray. There is enough blame to go around starting with the career democratic elected officials in both the house and congress, to the pessemistic reality t.v watching democratic voters.
The "Attack Dog/Character Assasination Wing" of the Fascist Republican Crime Family, will be able to paint any career Democratic Elected Congress Man/Woman as "Weak on Defense" Social Spenders and someone who will raise taxes.
If the Democratic voters of this country want to see a Progressive Democrat in the W.H. in 2008; it starts with winning back the House in 2006.
Lastly, we as progressive Democratic voters must decide who we want to represent NOT THE DLC OR DNC. "ENOUGH SAID"
