Somewhere in this pile of manure there's a pony named James Baker III.
Posted by ken melvin at February 27, 2006 03:35 PMCNN just reported the US Senate met behind closed doors to hear classified report from Homeland Security in effect sugarcoating the Dubai port deal.
Sen. Susan Collins wasn't convinced: "If anything I'm more convinced the deal was flawed."
Posted by Christopher at February 27, 2006 03:46 PMYes, Love how they have some assitant secretary of the Treasury Dept's international affairs answering with reassurance for the national security concerns of the Coast Guard. Yes, I'm sure this person is well qualified to speak on behalf of the Coast Guard concerns out of that committee.
"Just trust us" ain't gonna work anymore Mr. Preztledent.
Posted by emal at February 27, 2006 04:04 PMHere are some nuts claiming that opposing the Patriot Act is the same thing as sedition.
If someone who is a more skilled debater than me could go there and pound those idiots, that would be much appreciated.
Posted by Tester at February 27, 2006 04:12 PMKarl Rove can spin most dissent as politically motivated or uninformed opinion, but the Coast Guard is one of the most trusted institutions in this country. If the Coast Guard is concerned about secuity, the public wont buy half-assed answers.
Posted by MarvToler at February 27, 2006 05:31 PMIt's not who's making money, it's who's made money. I'd bet the farm there were billions (yes, with a b) in well-laundered contributions to W.'s campaigns from the good folks in the UAE (and in Saudi Arabia, where we removed our troops IMMEDIATELY after the invasion of Iraq). This is quid pro quo, ladies and gentlemen, for putting him in office -- at the same time they were financing the 9/11 terrorists.
Posted by dalloway at February 27, 2006 05:40 PMNow the Coast Guard is claiming their comments were taken out of context and that they have no concerns over the DP deal. What happened, did Cheney invite them on a hunting trip?
Posted by ann at February 27, 2006 07:29 PMSpeaking of security concerns, Obama makes some noise about the lack of security at our chemical plants. It's about damn time someone said something about this.
Posted by ann at February 27, 2006 07:36 PMTHe port deal closes Thursday. Who is going to stop this travesty?
Posted by Via at February 27, 2006 07:45 PMYeah, the "Coast" "Guard." Like anybody's ever heard of that...
Posted by dj moonbat at February 27, 2006 09:48 PMSay, is the UAE aware of Eminint Domain and can it be excercised by state or local authorities with respect to the ports?
That would be so much fun that John Snow would probably out-chenney Dick.
Posted by shirt at February 27, 2006 09:57 PMThat's a nice try, shirt, but the UAE isn't going to OWN the ports, just operate them. Eminent Domain is intended to take ownership, and those Bu$hCo Pioneers who won them aren't going to allow Kelo to be applied to them!
Posted by pessimist at February 28, 2006 03:03 AMThank you Ken Melvin!
The Coast Guard: The breadth of the intelligence gaps also infer potential unknown threats against a large number of potential vulnerabilities.
Boy, doesn't that sound like Rumsfeld's "unknown unknowns"?
