Do I detect a whiff of Capatism? Here at the LeftCoaster? Be careful, Steve, you are likely to lose most of your Leftist readers if you continue down this path!
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 05:00 PMOK Bagley,
Who is the only sitting V/P to ever shoot someone?
Burr was not a sitting V/P.
When you get excited Bagley, your spelling goes to hell.
Posted by bbtb at March 1, 2006 05:15 PM"Who is the only sitting V/P to ever shoot someone?"
I think his name was "Yes."
"When you get excited Bagley, your spelling goes to hell."
I am a terrible speller. I know this and I apologize for any difficulties it may cause in reading my posts.
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 05:25 PMNow, SOS, don't demean yourself by responding to Mr. Lipton here. He's just a drunk kid spoiling for his humiliation fix. You wouldn't want to enable his addiction, would you?
Posted by iamcoyote at March 1, 2006 05:43 PMSteve: I am once a again off topic, but for a very good reason. It would seem that civilians (non-combatants) simply do not understand what war does to an average person who would not even think of taking another life.
Yet we were trained to do so, and then essentially thrown in the trash barrel when we had done our dirty deeds. It is impossible for even Doonesbury to adequately explain what happens when you kill, especially on a commercial scale. It is beyond explanation or belief.
For those of you chicken hawks who rant and rave for the war, and have never seen the consequences, FUCK YOU. You still have time to experience the wonders of destruction first-hand before Iraq is over. Go to your local recruitment centre, and sign up, or sign your children up, or shut the fuck up. You are nothing more than gutless, spineless bastards if you do not.
What years? Where?

Been there, done that. Now, you, STFU and go away -- comforted by the fact that there are people who are willing to defend your right to be a whiney, craven, ignorant, pestilent boil on the hindquarters of human freedoms.
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 06:57 PMIt amazes me Bagley that you cannot come to terms that this administration is the worst ever.
Why, you can't even say our current V/P's name!
I get it now, your not a citizen of the USA.

You're a fucking chickenhawk yellow coward, you absolute sissy. Fuck off. People should take comfort in the fact that people like me will beat down traitors like you.
Posted by God Of War at March 1, 2006 07:18 PM"Why, you can't even say our current V/P's name!"
Actually, I can. However, I recall the yes/no question you asked: and then had the temerity to criticize my spelling.
"It amazes me Bagley that you cannot come to terms that this administration is the worst ever."
You do not remember the Carter Administration, do you?
"I get it now, your not a citizen of the USA."
I have been for many years. I am an immigrant and it constantly amazes me how ignorant you lefties are regarding conditions in the rest of the world. Yet you people still speak as though you have (some) experience outside of the "misery tourism" that you people have a penchant for. (It seems to go right along with the idea that you can speak to military culture...the armchair perspective, only.)
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 07:23 PM"People should take comfort in the fact that people like me will beat down traitors like you."
I once offered you the opportunity to try. I do recall that you rapidly ran away.
So much for that.
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 07:26 PMtempus served, as did bbtb, and each have made that clear. To demand that either STFU and go away is ultimately disrespectful.
As was noted earlier on this blog, the main reason that soilders and Marines think they are in Iraq is not to protect anyone's freedom, but rather to retaliate against a dictator. That to me is more telling than anything any contrarian can spout.
By speaking out, each one of us protects our freedom to continue to do so -- in a bloodless sort of way.
Posted by incontrolados at March 1, 2006 07:27 PM"...the main reason that soilders and Marines think they are in Iraq is not to protect anyone's freedom, but rather to retaliate against a dictator."
Ahhhh, I rather think that they are capable of drawing a direct line between what they are doing in Iraq and the security of the US. As I posted: armchair (on your part).
"To demand that either STFU and go away is ultimately disrespectful."
I do believe that tempus gave up the pretense of (ever) having served in the military.
Yet you people still speak as though you have (some) experience outside of the "misery tourism" that you people have a penchant for.
I sympathise with your frustration with the language, but I do object to being stereotyped by anyone. There is a variety of ideas on the left, from conservative to so far left that it could be construed to be libertarian.
Your criticism seems weak and more reactionary than enlightened. Just my take.

I appreciate your candor. So may on left are filled with only insults and vitriol.

While 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks,” 77% said they also believe the main or a major reason for the war was “to stop Saddam from protecting al Qaeda in Iraq.”
from their own mouths

What was the name of that al-Qaeda fellow thatwas the guest of Saddam....in Iraq?
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 07:50 PMincontrolados, You'll have to forgive Bagley, he comes from the elite of the military, Navy officer. His group snub their noses at the every day soldier/sailer doing their duty. He feels that respect is too good to give. If only he would read Commander Jeff Huber at 'Pen and Sword', maybe he will listen to someone who out ranks him.

Never read the book. Your post causes me to question your military credentials bbtb. When/where did you serve? Never did I meet an officer who was not in awe of the job that the enlisted men did. Including me!
(P.S. I also spent some time serving with the Marines.)
Anything else?
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 08:03 PMHere's the Commander's link, Bagley.
Posted by bbtb at March 1, 2006 08:04 PM"Provide your links, please."
Sure. From the article:
"Abu Musaab al-Zarqawi oversaw an al Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan, Mr. Powell told the United Nations. His specialty was poisons. Wounded in fighting with U.S. forces, he sought medical treatment in Baghdad in May 2002. When Zarqawi recovered, he restarted a training camp in northern Iraq. Zarqawis Iraq cell was later tied to the October 2002 murder of Lawrence Foley, an official of the U.S. Agency for International Development, in Amman, Jordan. The captured assassin confessed that he received orders and funds from Zarqawis cell in Iraq, Mr. Powell said. His accomplice escaped to Iraq."

Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 08:09 PMbbtb,
Not a book, but a blog.
I thought it was a book.
What branch of the service did you serve in...when?
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 08:11 PMYour post causes me to question your military credentials bbtb. When/where did you serve?
US Army, 87-91. Panama, 88-90, the remainder at Ft. Riley, KS. From Panama we were on many (wonderful) missions throughout Latin American.
Posted by bbtb at March 1, 2006 08:12 PMMore blogs for you Bagley, Democratic Veteran and Main and Central. I go to them often. Veteran issues.
The best one for Veterans issues is VA watchdog dot org.
So send a Veteran in need someday to a blog for help.
Taking this thread in a slightly different direction, if Bagley is Navy, what might his thoughts be as to James Webb's candidacy? I'm sure that on first pass he will say that Webb is an opportunist. I find him to have always been a man of his word. If Bagley disrespects Webb, then that proves Webb's point and explains why he is running as a Democrat. Webb believes that the constant tearing down of those who have served makes it less likely that anyone will serve in the long term and that those serving now will see that specifically because the GOP is "swiftboating" anyone in the opposition there is no value to the medals that they earn. Thus, leading to the direct undermining of the current military. So, Bagley, keep dragging down your fellow vets. Those currently deployed are watching you and your type and see that you will eventually betray them. That to me seems to be more harmful to the moral of the military than some random civilian voicing their Constitutional rights.
just sayin'
Posted by incontrolados at March 1, 2006 08:23 PMWhile 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks"
And as well all know....Saddam had absofuckinglutely nothing to do with 9/11. No wonder these guys need mental health care when they get home. Besides having lived through the horrors of war, they come face to face with the reality that what they were told they were fighting for was a lie.

Thanks for your service. Many of the posters on these threads do not appreciate you service, but I do.
" So, Bagley, keep dragging down your fellow vets. Those currently deployed are watching you and your type and see that you will eventually betray them. That to me seems to be more harmful to the moral of the military than some random civilian voicing their Constitutional rights....just sayin'"
Keep sayin...proves your ignorance.
You speak to the moral of the people who are deployed? By what measure: have you ever deployed? Do you know anyone who has ever been deployed?
Probaly not. Travelling to the local protest is not being deployed: afterwards, shall we repair to the local Starbucks for a cappuccino.
Oh my, six-dollars; last month it was only $5.95. Inflation -- times are so difficult now. How do the soldiers afford these prices?
It must be Halliburton! The evil Rovian-Bu$hco!
Power to the people! Support the troops. (Except the ones who are actually in uniform.)
My Constitutional Rights afford me the opportunity to denigrate those who serve while telling all my friends that I do support the poor, mis-guide youth who have signed-up to kill babies!
Power to the people. Let me write you a check for the victims in Darfur.
Please keep that homeless man away from me: he smells bad. What? He is is a veteran? A Vietnam veteran: serves him right -- baby killer!
Just a random, (musings of a) Leftist, clueless civilian.....to be continued....
Good night, incontrolados.
And...
Good night all. Thanks to the LeftCoaster for the bandwidth.
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 08:46 PMNight, Bagley.
Posted by incontrolados at March 1, 2006 08:52 PMBagley, I give those homeless Vets a buck or 2 or some bottled water. Helps in AZ, never had one turn it down.
Yes, I want the troops home. So they don't have to suffer the endless mind games that are being played on them now. No clear cut strategy in Iraq and endless guard missions that could get them killed.
Posted by bbtb at March 1, 2006 09:03 PMI do believe that tempus gave up the pretense of (ever) having served in the military.
You fucking idiot Bagley. All I can say is that I am damn glad that neither I or my fellow pilots had to serve with you. You are an embarrassment.
If bbtb did not seek you out and fix your little problem, I currently certainly have the time. As another poster noted, why do you trash your fellow ex-servicemen? We were all in that nightmare. What is wrong with you?
tempus, I can only think that this is how Bagley deals with is insecurity. He probably thinks he is being a real bad ass. Like I really give a rats ass. He comes in, stirs the pot and gets off. Fuck him!
I am certifiable so I know I can get away with it.
But, I am not actually "a troll." I am here to educated and, perhaps, bring a different perspective to the discussion. If that fails, I am here to further prove to myself that the once great Democratic Party is dead.
Posted by Bagley at March 1, 2006 08:25 PM
Bagley, for a naval officer you have a difficult time constructing a sentence. "I am here to educated and...” I don't know about your superior officers, but I would pull your rank and sink you to ensign if I read that grade two attempt at English.
Bagley quotes an article:
Hmmm, interesting reading from sites like that. Try this one:
"In fact, U.S. intelligence officials tell NEWSWEEK, after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, Zarqawi went first to Iran—a country that many officials have long believed had far more consequential relationships with terrorist groups, including Al Qaeda, than Saddam’s regime. And while the new CIA report confirms that Zarqawi unquestionably did later move to Baghdad—and received medical treatment there before the war— there is still no hard evidence on whether he was being supported or assisted by Saddam’s regime. “The information on that is not clear,” said one U.S. official familiar with the report."
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6192327/site/newsweek/
And so it goes. Another interesting part of that story is how Zarqawi moves to northern Iraq. Now ain't that Kurdish country? And don't we know that Saddam at that point in time had little power over the Kurdish lands, considering they were in our no-fly zone?
Wierd, huh?
But hey, I'm sure Bush hates a terrorist as much as the next guy, so it really makes one scratch one's head in reading old stories like this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4431601/
Funny how our idiot leader continues boggling little tidbits like this.....
Posted by MisterOpus1 at March 1, 2006 10:42 PMEvery time a thread goes south, a troll gets its wingnut check. It's a wonderful life, if you're not a dead US diplomat in Pakistan. Put another kaboom in the Bushco column.
