Bush said shortly before arriving in Pakistan. "I believe that a prosperous, democratic Pakistan will be a steadfast partner for America, a peaceful neighbor for India and a force for freedom and moderation in the Arab world."

Posted by benjoya at March 3, 2006 12:05 PMThis is what I sent to the editors yesterday regarding those who voted against cloture on the UNPatriot Act:
We have in our US Senate 30 Senators who are heroes. 29 Democratic Senators and one Independent who stood up against the rubber-stamp Republican Congress and voted against cloture on the Patriot Act.
Their vote did not reflect a desire to “kill” the Patriot Act as the Republican talking points would have Americans believe. Their vote was not an act of playing politics with National Security; their vote was to save the United States Constitution and the American people from an unprecedented power grab by the Executive Branch.
The Republican leadership used a procedural tactic to disallow the Democrats from proposing amendments to the Patriot Act. 95% of the Patriot Act is already law – this delay to get the Act right, would not endanger the ability for America to fight terrorism; the rush to push the law through endangers America’s ability to stay a free Nation.
There are a few provisions of the Act that infringe unnecessarily on the liberties and rights of the American people. These Senators wanted only to fix those provisions and have a law that would protect America and most importantly protect Americans from unchecked presidential power that our Founding Fathers fought against.
We have faced dangers in America since its founding. When we originally fought for our freedom from British rule, we had British soldiers on American soil that would move into our homes, with blanket warrants and do a search for whatever they might find; they did not have to have probable cause – they could sweep whole villages and look for whatever they wanted.
This is one of the provisions in the Patriot Act that our 30 heroes fought to have changed. A so called “sneak and peek” provision which will allow government agents to come into our homes and not notify us that they had rummaged through our belongings and taken our private papers and personal items for 30 days. For 30 days any one of us could be victims of this invasion and not know who broke into our house. The Democratic Senators wanted to change this delay to 7 days. This is not an unreasonable amendment; however, the Republican leadership would not allow this amendment to be proposed.
These heroes, these 30 people who fight for what America stands for, will be vilified, as is the tactic of the Republican leadership, the RNC who has already released videos on how to demonize the Democrats. We must, as Americans, red, blue and purple thank these heroes for their courage to take back America and restore the rule of law which is designed to protect all of us. We are a Nation of Laws, Not of Men. Let us never forget that.
Let us thank the following Senators for doing their jobs to protect all of America and our Constitution.

Southwest did this?
Only thing I can figure is they're based in Texas and DeLay is from Texas, so they're buttering the bread on both sides.
Are they supporting any Democrats running in Texas?
Posted by Christopher at March 3, 2006 12:24 PMI'm sure other airlines would like to be able to donate to some causes, but except for Southwest and Jetblue, all of 'em seem to be losing money quarter after quarter.
Posted by muckdog at March 3, 2006 01:35 PMMcCain's ass must be awfully sore by now since he keeps getting screwed by Bu$hCo. Yet he keeps bending over for another reaming. What a hump.
Posted by red_neck_repub at March 3, 2006 02:00 PMI think we should boycott SWA and JBL. Walmart gives big to bush also.
Gee, I can't believe that somebody so illiterate was put in office - Bush can't put one sentence together. Thanks, the link to stupid bush sayings made me laugh 'til I cried. A bozo-in-office.

Interesting thought. Does Bush have the early stages of Alzheimer's. Certanly would explain alot about his behavior. If not, then he is the stupidest man to have ever sat his butt in the WH.
